I’m always a bit nervous; nervous the first time someone joins us for dinner. I just never feel sure what is going to fly out of someone’s mouth…sometimes my own!

Last Monday, Amy joined us; it was her first. It was one of those last minute invites, so when I served her the portabello mushroom and turkey burger, I was already feeling like she might think we were weird.

My oldest girl shared a story of a kind act at school that day. Since I had just did an interview with the Charlotte View on the misguided myth of bullying; climbing the social ladder, I felt good that my own child showed compassion that day.

That’s when Amy spoke up, “I invited the new kid at school to sit by me at lunch because he didn’t know any body.” How cool! Amy felt proud; I felt proud of her too! I made sure she knew.

1 Thessalonians 2:12 says “…encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.” NIV

That’s our job as parents…to encourage and urge our kids to live lives that are worthy of God; worthy to wear the name “believer”. Acts of kindness do just that!

As they see us do the same, may we inspire them to godly living! Be kind to someone today; especially in front of your child!
