My Emotional Hang Over

 

I woke up this morning with an emotional hang over. One of those days, when the feelings I had when I went to bed still hung over my head.

Last night our family made our way back from vacation. Perched on top of our car, kayaks had hung on through three hours of mountainous roads and torrential rain. Now, only a mile from our house, I saw a flash of blue and orange as the kayaks slid off the top of my car into oncoming traffic!

Why did I beg, against my husband’s better judgement, to transport them this way? Why don’t I listen?

Sitting in my favorite chair this morning, I begged the Lord to help me put my poor choice behind me and not let yesterday’s emotions carry into today. As I prayed, Lamentations 3: 22 – 23 came to mind “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (NIV)

Reading of His love and His compassion toward me washed over the feelings of guilt and shame of pushing for my own way. He took away my sin. His faithfulness filled in the gap of my unfaithfulness helping me to make a fresh start.

I hope the next time I want to choose to be unwise and push my way over my husband’s, I’ll have a flash back of the flying kayaks. In the meantime, I will trust the Lord to help me put yesterday where it needs to be, in the past of yesterday, and begin this day anew.

  1. I cant help but ask…..were you able to save the kayaks? Hoping there were no accidents….good lesson…..though not so good way to learn :(. Hope you, kayaks, and everyone else involved are ok.

      My husband did save the kayaks…although he has an achy back today after heaving them across the road to a grassy area! God was so good…there were no accidents either!
