9 Prayers to Pray for Your Girl

9 Prayers to Pray For Your Girl | #youandyourgirl series {December 2014} by Lynn Cowell

I’m guessing we have this in common: you want the best for your girl. For her to reach her fullest potential.

And so we pray…or at least we attempt to.

Then our days grow busy, we become distracted and we forget.

Or maybe we don’t forget.

Instead, we feel like we’re wasting our time praying the same things day after day. We get tired of praying the same prayers.

What if our prayers were right where we were…on our social media?

And what if our prayers came from God’s word so we knew what to pray, how to pray and didn’t pray the same thing every day?

And what if they were short, so we had enough time in this busy season?

That’s why I’ve created 9 Prayers to Pray for Your Girl.

Let’s do that together for the next 9 days. I’ll post a prayer, based on based on God’s word, for our girls to become the girl He wants – a girl filled with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control found in Galatians 5:22-23.

Together, let’s give our daughters the greatest gift we can give them this Christmas season – the gift of our prayers.

Prayers for Your Girl:

Day 1: Love
Lord, please work in my girl’s heart to love who You created her to be and in turn love others. Amen
“And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” (Matt . 22:39) (NIV)

Day 2: Joy
Jesus, empower my girl to look for joy all around her instead of looking around her for what is missing.
“and those the Lord has rescued will return. They will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.” (Isaiah 35:10) (NIV) Day 2 of 9 | Joy | 9 Prayers to Pray for Your Girl | Isaiah 35:10 | #youandyourgirl series {December 2014} by Lynn Cowell

Day 3: Peace
Father, teach my girl to go after peace; looking for prayers to pray instead of words to say. Amen
“Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. (Psalm 34:14) (NIV)

Day 4: Patience
Lord, train my girl to be patient. Teach her to wait; not manipulate a situation or person for what she thinks is best. Amen
“Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.” (Proverbs 14:29) (NIV)

Day 5: Kindness
Jesus, open my girl’s eyes to see opportunities for kindness and choose putting others’ needs and desires above her own. Amen
“This is what the Lord says: “Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am
the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the Lord.” (Jeremiah 9:23–24) (NIV)

Day 6: Goodness
God, may my girl choose goodness and stand strong, not just go along with culture. Amen
“But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.” (Ephesians 5:3–4) (NIV)

Day 7: Faithfulness
Jesus, may my girl fight to be faithful in all she does, not quick to quit one thing in order to snatch something “better.” Amen
“Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. (Proverbs 3:3) (NIV)

Day 8: Gentleness
God, teach my girl to lean into Your gentleness learning to become gentle with herself so she can be gentle with others. Amen
“As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” (Ephesians 4:1–2) (NIV)

Day 9: Self Control
Father, may my girl practice self-control, not allow feelings-driven thoughts to overrule Your wisdom-living words in her life. Amen
“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” (2 Corinthians12:9–10) (NIV)

My daughter is 40, but she still needs these prayers in time of marital turmoil.
So I pray she will be filled with the love she needs to share with her entire family, even her husband, as they part. Even though I also pray for them to remain together, I pray that however it will turn out, she will be filled with nurturing, Godly love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Thank you Lynn for answering Gods call and writing. I have 12 yr old granddaughter that I truly want to influence for God. In this wicked world of girls disappearing into the sex slave trade I fear for her, I want to remember to pray for her every day. I have an app on my phone that reminds me to virtually “pet” cats to give them food. Each “pet” is sponsored by an advertiser who donates to the animal rescue site. I want an app that reminds you to pray for your loved ones!

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Hi Ann – I have a friend who sets an alarm on her phone each day. This is a reminder to pray. We could all do the same. In fact, your comment prompted me to set one right now. I set it for 1:30 p.m. I pray for my kids in the morning, but now I will be triggered to pray for them in the afternoon too. Thank you so much for sharing!

My reminder to be outside the box and not follow the crowd would be to remind myself daily that the bible says we are fearfully and wonderfully made so keeping that in mind will help me in the days to come.

  10. I have recently become a proverbs 31 woman. God is always in the details of my life, especially with your recent post. Thank you for your words about peer pressure, and that it’s not just while in school. I pray I am able to shine the light of The Lord to fellow coworkers who don’t know him. I’M IN, to committing to my Jesus and not peer pressure.

Merry Christmas to you and yours this wonderful time of year.
