A New Thing

A few months ago I started to sense that the Lord wanted to take me to a new place in my walk with Him. What would that look like I wondered? What would He change? What did I need to learn? How would He take me there?

Monday morning I attended a funeral of a 43 year old brother of a precious friend of mine. Funerals always make you think: how will I be remembered? Will I have made a difference – the kind that impacts eternity?

Yesterday I listened in on a conference call for Proverbs “She Speaks” Conference in July. Lysa TerKeurst encouraged us to get before the Lord and ask Him “What do you want to do in me? What areas of my life am I yet holding on to? What do you want to shake up that needs to be shaken?” It sounded so familiar.

Today, I read 2 Samuel 22: 33 – 37 and it was as if the light bulb came on :

“God’s way is perfect. All the Lord’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection. For who is God except the Lord? Who but our God is a solid rock? God is my strong fortress, and he makes my way perfect. He makes me as surefooted as a deer, enabling me to stand on mountain heights. He trains my hands for battle; he strengthens my arm to draw a bronze bow. You have given me your shield of victory; your help has made me great. You have made a wide path for my feet to keep them from slipping.”

There it is. In black and white. What are His desires for me? He wants to make my way perfect. Now that would be a legacy. That would be a life that would truly impact others. How does He do that? Just follow the progression of the verses:

1) He makes me surefooted, enabling me to stand on mountain heights.

There is stuff inside of us that He has to change in order for us to be capable of being on the

top; in order for us to be able to handle Him giving us the desires of our hearts!

2) He trains my hands for battle.

He has to strengthen my arms to be able to “draw the bronze bow”; to be able to go into a

battle with the enemy and come out the victor!!

3) He gives me His shield of victory; His help makes me great.

He is handing it to us – will we accept the shield? Will we accept His help every day, every

minute. Every interaction with our husband, every conversation with our boss, every

moment with our children. Will we accept the help to get us to be “great”. To get us to be

victorious in this life?

4) He makes a wide path for me to keep me from slipping.

He is making that path; am I staying on it?

So much to consider. So much to surrender to. So much to gain. Friends, I am discontent today. Discontent to remain the Lynn I am; discontent to keep doing things the way I have been doing them. Ready to move forward.

How about you? Are you challenged to do the same? Friends, the other side of this surrender is going to be amazing. That is one thing you can count on with God; it might not be easy to get there, but when you do He is more than you could possibly imagine!

  1. Yes, Lynn I too battle my flesh and wonder if I am falling behind His will or moving to quickly. I long to be all HE wants me to be and nothing that I want to be. He knows your heart and I just know He has mighty plans for you sister. Sometimes patience is the hardest thing for us to endure. AMEN!

    Love you girl,
