Be prepared! Goodness study

Happy Monday! It’s a gorgeous day here in Charlotte and I am excited to get back to our study on the fruit of the Spirit!

I don’t think it is any coincidence that goodness follows up kindness in the list of the fruit of the Spirit. The two will often go hand-in-hand.

In the original language the New Testament was written in, Greek, the word for goodness is agathosuneAgathosune means “intrinsically good, good in nature, good whether it be seen to be so or not.”

I had to re-read that definition twice. “Whether it be seen to be so (good) or not”.

It is our responsibility to decern what good is. We can’t rely on others to tell us whether or not something is good. We need to know how God defines goodness. We discover that when we read His words.

2 Timothy 3:16 – 17 tells us, “All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so that the man of God may be throughly equipped for every good work.”

The four processes God’s word works in us so we can be equipped for every good work are teaching, rebuking, correcting and training.

His Word teaches what is good.

His Word rebukes us when we are not doing good.

His Word corrects us, showing us how to change so we begin to do good.

His Word trains us to prepare us for every good work we have the opportunity to be a part of.

Ever meet a woman whose life touches so many with God’s goodness? She is most likely a woman who is investing her time each day learning God’s word.

Carve out time today, friend, so God’s word can prepare you for every good work God wants you to be a part of!

  1. Hello,
your writing touch my heart today. My name is Helen 57 years of age. I was recently given custody of my twelve year old granddaughter. At first I was angry, I told God I have already raise my three children. she has been with me since July there has been ups and down seem like I stay angry, I didn’t want to do this again. I just asked that you to pray for us. After four months I am feeling alot better about raising her. A friend told me that this is the assigned job Jesus has placed in my hand and that he will give me the strenght to do it. I want a husband that I was praying about – God has a sense of humor doesn’t. We are in the process of looking for a three bredroom apartment or house with no carpet that would fit in my budget. I can’t even tell you the money issue??? it been tight. But great is his faithfulness to me and Kiona. She recently has been filled with Jesus holy spirit speaking in tongues. My pastor said she is gifted. Please pray that I will allowed God to change me and wait on all his promises. your sister in Christ Helen
