Being Equipped for Being

On Wednesday we continued our discussion on being; being people of character. Who we are is what defines the actions we take.

The question now is how? If you have been around this planet for very long, it sure is obvious that being people of character is not something that is embraced in our songs, our movies, our tv. Yet, as followers of Christ, THIS is what we desire; to be like Jesus.

So is this where the list comes in? Does the New Year’s resolution resurface a couple of weeks out? Nope. Being like Jesus comes FROM Jesus.

“May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” Hebrews 13:21 NIV

More good news. He is going to equip us! He is going to work in us what is pleasing to Him. Does that mean I just sit back and do nothing? No, but it does mean that I don’t have to come up with all types of self-discipline and will power. Instead, I learn day by day to rely on Him to be faithful to give me what I need for this day to do His will and work in me what is pleasing to Him. I find my place of being in Him.

Lord, on this Friday, may you take me one step closer to relying on You. One step closer to being the Jesus Girl you have called me to be. You have given me everything I need to be completely Your’s. Help me to run to you today when I am tempted to act like someone other than who you created me to be. I love you so! Amen

    Thank you so much for this post! I really needed this reminder to be the Jesus Girl He created me to be.
    Lately, He's been reminding me in these ways:
    -I DON'T always have to react when I'm insulted or offended….I can listen to the other person and later reflect on what was said. Was the person speaking out of anger or is there any truth to what was said. (Ouch, that's a tough one to acknowledge!)

    -Keep my cool when I'm interrupted;
    His way of teaching me patience, I've found, often has me being interrupted. I realize that it's not going to stop until I begin to respond in a Christ-like way. (Not that they will completely stop, but you know what I mean).

    So these are the 2 big ones for now. I know that I'm a work in progress but each day I'm working on that and He's right along side me.

  2. Amy,
    Isn't our tongues just the hardest when it comes to being a Jesus Girl! I am learning more about holding it, but last night my daughter said, "Mom, it is obvious you are mad. What is wrong?". I'm conquering the tongue, but now my body language needs to match!

    Ooops, I forgot I posted as anonymous, but the one above is from Amy V. 🙂

  5. I love your new blog, Lynn. Thank you for a wonderful message about how our God equips us for what He calls us to do. We don't have to do it in our own strength, we need only surrender our giftedness to Him and allow Him to grow it in and through His Holy Spirit.

    Love,

    Wendy
