Big Day for Our Big Man

The day has arrived. A day we have talked about for so long. A day my oldest has dreamt about for what seems like forever. Today, Zach will get dropped off at Appalachian State; the college he has wanted to attend since he was a kid.

God has been so good. He has surrounded me with friends who have gone down this path before me; who have encouraged me to trust God as He allows Zach to write story. He has given me precious friends who are going through this stage at the same time we are. The most powerful thing He has given me is His word that has strengthen and empowered me to trust as we physically turn over our care of our son to the One who has always cared for him.

One of the verses that I have prayed for my son often over this past year is Jeremiah 31: 16 “Thus says the Lord: restrain your voice from weeping and your eyes from tears, for your work shall be rewarded, says the Lord, and your children shall return from the enemy’s land and there is hope for your future. “

What can we expect for our children? We can expect that the God has a hopeful future for them and we can trust and believe that He will bring that future to pass.

Do you have a child who is heading to college this year or one who is facing a new or challenging situation? I would love to pray for your child today as I pray for my own. If you will post a comment below, I will pray for each one of your children over this weekend. Happy Weekend!

  1. Letting them go and grow is a very hard step to take and it is one we must take.

We take it for them and their future, we take it for ourselves so we can rest in the hands of God.

God just reminded me today "best still and no that I am God."

  2. Hello Lynn,

Please pray for both my boys. My oldest is going into the 11th grad by has 4 classes to make up for his freshman year. We just found out somethings about our son that we didnt even know. Its like a stranger has been living in my home for all these years. He is not living up to his potential and somewhere along the line he has lost his self confidence.
Also please pray for our 9 yearold the school year is very stressfull with him because he doesnt listen and has no respect for authority. He learned that teaches are the bad guy in his first two years of school. He learned no matter what he does he's going to get in trouble so I might as well do what I want anyways. Please pray that he gest and stays on track because at this point I am scared of the road ahead for him.

    thanks for your prayers.

Lynn, I covet your prayers for my son, Joshua. He is 20 yrs old and struggling to find his way. He is so easily led by others. The devil is really playing a number on him. He went away to college 2 yrs ago & we had such hopes & dreams for his future. But he met the wrong person there & ended up flunking out. Since then he has not been able to bounce back. He is planning to move out next week. Literally, to follow one of his friends as they go off to college. I am really struggling to believe there is hope for his future.

  4. Thank you for offering to pray…my son is 16 years going into 11th grade. He's always done well in school and had a good head on his shoulders, but lately, wrong crowd – and hasn't gone to church all summer. I love him dearly and find it hard to be hard on him – hard to say no. Thank you for your prayers. P.S. Welcome Zach to Mountaineer Country…my home.`

  5. Please pray for my daughter, Sarah Beth, who is a college junior. Pray that she understands and follows God's will regarding her current relationship and also her career opportunities.

Also, my older daughter, Katie, who continues to doubt God's power and love. She continues to seek happiness in wordly ways and has been hurt by people who present themselves as Christians but live in evil ways.

Thankyou, and I will pray for you son!

  6. Thank you for this, although my daughter is already in college it still doesn't get any easier. I sympathize with what you are going through.

Please pray for my daughter that is starting her second year in college. May the Lord bless her and guide her.

    Thank you

I am praying for you Lynn as you learn to let go of your son. Please pray for my daughter as she heads to Elon Univ. where she will be a freshman. Also pray for you son who is going to NYU to law school. He has already been away from home for undergrad and he did well, but as a parent I still worry about him and pray that he continues to make the right choices in his life.
