Can’t Get Enough
1 John 3:1 “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.”
Whenever I read my Bible and see the word “love” I just have to start digging. I guess I must be one desperate girl because I just can’t seem to get enough.
Today’s key verse tells us that the Father has lavished his great love on us. Great I get, but lavished isn’t a word in my every day vocabulary. Dictionary.com says it means: to expend or give in great amounts or without limit. Without limit.
Have you ever been squeezing someone in a giant bear hug and they squeak out “Stop!”? Maybe their love language isn’t physical touch! Possibly you’ve had a friend wish you didn’t call so much or dated a guy who thought you were spending too much time together?
Not so with God! There is no point at which God says, “OK that’s enough” when it comes to his love. He can’t spoil you so he just keeps giving and giving and giving.
One of the ways he expresses this crazy, luxurious love is by calling us his children. Let that sink in just a minute: YOU are the child of God! You want to talk about the power of belonging; we belong to the One who owns and created it all. We have his last name.
Maybe that is why kids, who have no families, still want to be adopted even when they are almost 18 years old. Every person wants to be wanted; we all want to belong. Having the name of a family behind our name means that someone is behind you in life. You have the best name of all – Jesus.
