Can’t You Hurry Up, God?

FaithtoWait

If you’re joining me today from my Proverbs 31 Ministries devotion, Can’t You Hurry Up, God?, welcome!

Why is that cashier taking so long? Where did she go anyway? I bet all of these people behind me think this is my fault. I know Madi is home, just waiting for dinner. Oh, I wish she would hurry up!

Yesterday I pushed my day to the limit, choosing to go to the grocery store at the wrong end of my to-do list. I just didn’t have the time to wait! I needed to hurry up, get home and start supper. As my mind created these anxious thoughts, I could literally feel my stress rising.

Catching my thoughts, I could hear the voice of my chiropractor last week, “The damage in your spine is due to stress.” The damage in my spine? Stress related?

Sarah in today’s key verse was feeling stress. She wanted a baby; she needed a baby. God had told her He would take care of it, yet she felt like she could wait no longer. So she did what it took to relieve the stress. Only the action she took created much more stress than she had before she got involved.

If only she would have waited instead of manipulated.

I know the stress in my life, or should I say the stress in my back, can also be part of my issue with waiting. Waiting for God to move in my ministry, in the lives of my kids or in those circumstances beyond my control. I just want Him to hurry up already!

Maybe like me, a visual reminder would help; having God’s word on waiting right before our very eyes.

I have asked Proverbs 31 Ministries graphic designer, Alison Fargason, to create this beautiful 5 X 7 download just waiting for a frame! David’s words can bring back the perspective I need as I am waiting:

  1. Thank you for sharing this wisdom with us. Patience is a virtue I do not possess. I’ve faced this in my career and growing my family. This has spoken directly to me in so many ways.

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Kristie, I am so glad God used His word in your life today! I’m waiting too so He is speaking to mine as well!

  2. I will be laid off at the end of June and this is a reminder to me that something will come along I just need to be patient and wait and not panic!

Do you know what script font was used in the download for today? It is really pretty and nicely legible.

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

What a great reminder, Nancy! I am sorry I don’t know. My friend created it for me!

  3. Thank you so much for the encouragement this morning. I can identify with what you’re sharing, I
have asked the same question concerning my situation. I am so blessed knowing my Heavenly Father
through His precious Son Jesus Christ knows where we are and what is going on in our lives, send encouragement
our way. Thank you for sharing, I’m encouraged!

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Thank you so much, Mele! I am really happy you were encouraged!

  4. Perfect timing – as usual! Sometimes it is so hard to wait. But in the end whatGod has is better than anything that was received by manipulating circumstances/people.

  5. Jill Tribulas says:

I often feel like a pressure cooker about to explode and, it’s usually at these moments that God chooses to insert the slow driver, the change counter or the “I’d rather be anywhere else but here”, cashier. I hesitate to pray for patience because I know the only way to get more is to have whatever little patience I have now, tried.

What age girl is the book Magnetic geared toward? I would love to do something like this with my daughter but I want to make sure it’s age appropriate. Thank you.

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Hi Jill, I wrote Magnetic specifically for girls in middle and high school. I think it is great to teach our girls the fruit of the Spirit at any age, though!
