Challenged!

Wow did God put out a big ‘ole challenge to me recently!

“Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable.” Romans 11:17 NLT

Everyone? My kids? My husband? The person who cuts in front of me in the monstrous line at Wal-mart? The telemarketer who won’t let me off the line unless I hang up on them?

EVERYONE!

Honorable? If I need to be that, then what exactly does that entail?

Honor: honesty, fairness, or integrity; the privilege of being associated with or receiving a favor from a respected person (SUCH AS GOD)(Lynn’s addition), group, organization, etc.: in one’s beliefs and actions

So every action, every word, needs to reflect the incredible privilege I have of being associated (as in, being the daughter of) God Himself.

As I awoke this morning, I realized that if this is in fact going to happen, I have to start being honorable before my feet hit the ground. So today, I prayed as soon as my eyes opened. Prayed before I had a chance to mess it up right off the bat:

Lord, that is a tall order and definitely one I cannot possibly do without you. So, I won’t look too far ahead. For today, (for today is as much as I can handle), empower me Holy Spirit, to be honorable and in doing so, bring honor to You! Amen

Will you pray this prayer with me? Maybe the day is half over and you haven’t been too honorable. Maybe you are heading to bed and today you were not honorable. With Jesus, every day, every minute can be a new start; a new beginning. He says that He throws our sins as far as the east is from the west when we ask. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy or have all the right words:

Jesus – I messed up…again! I need you! You are perfect. You forgive and I need it. Make me your woman, your man for today. Jesus, only you! Amen

  1. I'm reading this a few days late, but I needed to read it today! Thanks for the reminder to be honorable, and to pray as soon as I wake up!

  2. Lynn, every year the Lord impresses a verse on my heart to "take on" as a theme verse for that year. As I read this post this morning, I sense the Lord nudging me to have this be my focus for 2010. To live 2010 honouring Him…honouring Him in my actions, words, thoughts, etc… I know I will mess up. Most likely daily. Praying that as the Lord teaches me to live an honourable life, I will be honouring Him and others.

If I'm not 'talking' to you again in the next couple of days, blessed Christmas to you and your family.
    Hugs,
    Joy

  3. Just in case anyone else is looking for the verse…it's actually Romans 12:17, not Romans 11:17. I know I've made that mistake before too…so easy to do.
