Dying on the Inside

“It’s dying.” Carrying the round, gunky bowl into the kitchen, Madi held up her fish. She was right; things weren’t looking so good for her male beta. There were plenty of signs that the fish was in fact dying. It’s color was no longer bright red; a dull pink hue replaced the glow. Periods of no movement indicated the life was leaving it’s body. Then out of nowhere; the fish would begin to struggle, pushing it’s way to the surface. I began to do what I could for the life that was trying to live; food, light and fresh water.

Do you feel like our fish today? Do you feel like the life is slowly going out of you? Monday morning comes around and you feel like you just can’t go another week the way things are?

Maybe, if another looked at your life, as I looked at our fish, they could help. Is your life lacking food? Jesus says he is the bread of life. He is the nourishment that our souls need. Without feeding on His truth daily, just like our bodies, our hearts will eventually starve and die. We need the bread of life.

Is your life lacking light? Jesus tells us that He is the light of the world; without it, without Him, we die. Our hearts need to soak up the light of His word – reading it, meditating on it and hearing it from others. Light brings life. Without the truth through the light; we die.

Do you need fresh water? Jesus is the Living Water. He told the woman at the well in John that if she would drink from Him she would never thirst again. Parched, yet not going to the source, we dry up. Our souls are desperate to be saturated with His life; His living water.

Friend, today go the the bread of life, the light of the world, the living water. He is the source of all life and can restore your dying heart. Maybe you need someone to come alongside you to help. Be courageous. Contact a friend who knows Jesus; find a Christian counselor. He created you for life. He wants you to live!

  1. Thanks for the encouragement into the light. With darkness when I get up and darkness when I get home from work, I have to embrace the Light of Christ at all times.

  2. Wow. How did you know I would need this today? That is exactly how I feel. Exactly what I've been feeling for months, and not knowing how to put my finger on it. Thank you for the encouragement. Thank you.
