Fought Over

John 10:29 “My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.”

Never been fought over. Never. Not for a team on the playground. Not between two girls who want to be my best friend. For sure not between two guys. Unless you count that dream I had after watching the first “Pirates of the Caribbean.” Seriously, I don’t think that counts.

There is a side of me, that like Elizabeth, wants to be fought over too! Doesn’t even have to be Will Turner. I’m just saying. Part of me just wants to know that someone is so crazy about me he’ll do anything for me. He’s got me tight and nothing is going to hurt me or take me away from him. His love compels him to do anything and everything to protect me. I’m his and there isn’t anything any one can do about it. Wow, I am a sap for all things romantic!

When I read today’s verse, I heard Jesus saying, “That’s me, Lynn!” Read out loud what Jesus says: “My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.” I picture him, the day that I gave him my life, standing up and shouting for all, especially the devil to hear, “This one is mine! It doesn’t matter to me what you try to do, you will never be able to take her from me. She is safe in my arms and that is where she is going to stay.”

Can I just tell you how much that makes me feel wanted? I don’t have to wish that someone would fight over me. Jesus already did, on the cross. This was more than just a few bunches thrown here and there. They fought to the death and Jesus beat out Satan by a long shot!

I wonder if you are like me. Just for once, do you wish someone wanted you like that? Friend, he does. Jesus really, really does! And let me just add; he’s just a bit jealous of anyone who would want to take your affections from him – your first love. As we begin this new year together, let’s make sure he is just that…our first love!
