Get in the Shower

I was wide awake. The clock said it was 5:15 a.m….45 minutes before my alarm went off. So, I started to pray. As I thought about the day ahead, my mind swirled with all of the things I wanted to accomplish before Greg got off the airplane – make a chocolate raspberry cheesecake, make the house at least “look” clean, get a shower and look nice for him. Seemed like a lot before his plane landed at 2:00 p.m. As I felt the anxiety begin to rise, I prayed for peace. Peace – the kind that the Bible says passes understanding.

A comparison came to my mind as I prayed. In a few minutes, I would be getting into the shower to get clean. In order for that warm water to come down and wash away the dirt, we have to open the door, turn on the water and step into the stream. That is the picture that I had as I laid there in my bed praying. If I want to experience God’s peace, I have to step into it. As I am obedient to step into the “shower”, He will be faithful to turn on the stream of His peace to come and cover me. First, though, I have to step into the shower.

The alarm went off. I was truly ready for the day ahead. Later, when Greg called me at 7:05 a.m. and said he had gotten an early flight and would be ready to meet for breakfast at 9:00 a.m….I was ready. Well, maybe not physically, but at least mentally!
