Great Fun!

This afternoon, I got to do my favorite thing…spend time with young girls! Shari Braendel and I had the opportunity to go and speak with a group of fabulous college age girls in a program called Safe Journey. This program comes along side teen mothers and walk beside them giving them parenting and life skills as well as assisting them in getting an education.

Safe Journey is a part of Communities In Schools (CIS) and is the nation’s largest and most effective dropout prevention network, helping young people stay in school, graduate, and prepare for life.

The subject I was given was healthy relationships. I figured today’s celebrities are a great resource on how not to have a healthy relationship, so that were I started. We decided that:
Healthy relationships have boundaries.
Healthy relationships are built on trust.
Healthy relationships need to come to a slow boil.
Healthy relationships have no fear.
Healthy relationships give each other space.

Thank you ladies for letting me come and join you today! I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!

  1. Thanks for posting about Communities in Schools. I'm always looking for new resources that can help teen mothers.

    Hi Lynn, I am always blessed to read (and meditate on) your devotions for P31. And I enjoy reading your blog when I can. If you get a chance, could you recommend a few books for me to give to my daughters for Christmas. They are 16 and 14 years old and both love to read. They both love Jesus and strive to live for Him, not always easy as a teenager as you are well aware! Merry Christmas!
    Thanks,
    Carol

  3. Beautiful devo this morning! I was struggling with negative thoughts about myself yesterday, and Satan was using his usual lie, "Nobody struggles with this except you."

    I needed to know that someone else struggles but more than that I needed reminded of the solution. I'm off to spend more time with Jesus!

  4. Carol,
    That is so cool that you want to invest in your daughters. Here are some of my favorite teen books. They are available through P31:
    * Lies Young Women Believe and The Truth That Sets Them Free (Dannah Gresh)

    * Authentic Beauty (Leslie Ludy)

    * Whose Faith is It Anyway? (T. Suzanne Eller)

    * Do the Hard Things

    Hope that helps! Keep loving on those girls! Merry Christmas,
    Lynn
