Hidden Love Notes

I know where she keeps them. Hidden under her bed, she safeguards her prized possession. To most, it looks like an ordinary Converse shoebox, but to her it is so much more than that. To her, it is a treasure box; the place where she stores each and every note he has ever written.

When no one is looking, she carefully removes it from the secure place and so the ritual begins. One by one, she pours over them…again. Each word analyzed. Each word “read into”.

The notes are now creased to the point of tearing; frayed so hardly legiable. But that is ok. You see, she has already memorized each one. From days upon days of being treasured, each word is carefully stored on her mind and in her heart.

This is the picture that came to my mind as I read this Psalm:

“But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.” Psalm 1:2 (NIV)

After a long and wearisome day, I was finally taking some time for me and the way I was going to enjoy it was by soaking. Not in a warm bubbly bath, but in the truth of God’s love notes to me. As I read this Psalm, I pictured myself reading His love notes to me, over and over and over again. Committing them to memory, they remind me again why He calls me His beloved.

Friend, this is how we find the freedom of love. By soaking our heart and our minds, like the girl with her box, reading of His revolutionary love for us over and over and over again. And as we read…we are changed.

Like the girl in love is transformed, we too, are changed by this revelation.

Take some time today to soak. Get away, even if just for a few moments. Steal away some time with your Love and read His notes to you again. While you are at it, encourage the girl in your life to do the same.

  1. Great post and I love the illustration with the shoe box – that's one I think every girl can relate to!! Your words make me think of something our pastor often shares – he repeatedly speaks of our need to read the Word in the same way we make tea – let it soak!!!! That truly is time well spent!! Blessings, Jill
