Hole in the Fence

A very dear friend of mine has had a very rough year. This week, she was spending some time with the Lord when she asked Him, “Lord, please give me a promise”. That very morning, she read:

“Forget about what’s happened;
don’t keep going over old history.
Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new.
It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it?
There it is!” (the Message)Isaiah 43:16

Then, her sister sent her this terrific analogy of just what God is up to:

“Now, God has his time and remember all you are is the 3rd grader looking through the peep hole of the ball game. You can see 1st base… you can see the pitcher, batter and ump…….. You have NO idea what’s at 2nd shortstop 3rd and NOT a clue what’s in the outfield. BUT the umpire knows it all.. He can see who is up to bat, who is at each step……

You try and try to peep into that hole but your vision is limited.. So you watch what you can… YOU can’t control who is coming up to bat,,, you can’t control who is going to get tagged out at 2nd base for leaving early.. See.. you have NO clue what action is taking place.

That’s how you live… each day God will expose a little more of what’s around the corner.. When he thinks you are ready.. when he thinks you are spiritually mature enough…

Spiritually maturity doesn’t come over night.. but takes time. You may have all the knowledge in the world, know verse after verse.. can even preach it.. but you need his maturity so you can grow…… true. Look at me. So do that sister.”

What encouragement! My friend, are you frustrated with looking through the peep hole? I know I am! I have discovered lately, that I am a person who thrives on change. I love something new all the time. (I guess I am a product of the microwave age). Sometimes, I get tempted to look for a way to jump over the fence and get more involved (as if I really can!) and do something about the outcome of the game even though I know that is not my place. What I do know is the ump is just and can be trusted. And you know what else? This game is fixed! We already know WHO is going to win!!
