How to Set Up a Prayer Journal

Prayers_and_Answers_Journal_1024x1024

A prayer journal is something I have used to help my prayer life be consistent. One season it might be a very pretty journal and others a 10ยข spiral from a back-to-school sale.

Fancy or plain, both will hold exactly what I need. A place to record the prayers I am praying for myself and those I dearly love.

It’s OK If It’s Messy

So, here is my current journal. I took an outside shot so you could see how messy it is! See the papers sticking out of the back? I made copies of prayers for my daughters by Lysa TerKeurst as well as the prayers for my son from Brooke McGloughlin. The small note cards sticking out are from Stormie Omartian’s The Power of a Praying Wife. I found the prayers from the book in card form a bizillion years back. I’ve been praying these prayers for Greg most of our 27 years of marriage. Based on God’s word, I know they line up with His heart for my man!

What You Can Put Inside

Here’s a peak inside. These pages are filled with some of my prayers for the events I speak at (I thought this was a bit safer than choosing pages on my loved ones!)

I put in the date of my request and then write it out. In the front, I have pages for my husband and for each one of my children. I try to leave space in between so that I can add requests as they come to me. There are pages for my mom and my in-loves too.

I also have pages based on events or things I want to see God do. Since I am a speaker and author, I have pages for my events and many, many pages for my new book coming out in September. I pray for my family every day and then work through the additional pages as time permits and God brings them to mind.

The Best Part … When God Answers!

Once it is answered, I highlight the prayer request so I can see very clearly all God is doing. On those days when I feel discouraged, I can scan over all that hot pink and with assurance see God is at work!

You can also get journals already designed just for praying like this one I found. Each page has space for writing encouraging verses too!

What a lovely giveaway. I used to keep a blessings notebook. Just scribbles of all the nice things that happened each day to have something to look a when I was having a harder day. It always brightened me up.

    1. I love how you did your journal. I talk to God all the time but sometime I write it in my journal. You really gave me a good idea. Its good to have something you can go back and see how God have answer your prayers.

      1. I’m new at this and can use all the tools I can get to pursue God in my life. Thanks.

  2. I love how you highlight what God has done through answered prayer. I rarely read over my prayer journal, which is a mistake. He has recently shown me the power of prayer and I think I need to go back with a highlighter and notice how many of my prayers have been answered.
Thank you for the simple, but powerful idea!

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

I know you will be surprised to see all of the “color” in your book of prayers, Denise!

  3. CorrytonKY says:

    I’m in! Thank you!

  4. Peggy Kirk says:

Lynn, I would really love a prayer journal to write my prayers and answers in. This is something I have never done although I have been praying a long time. I have 4 sisters and 3 of them have a prayer journal. I have tried doing a journal on the computer, but out of sight out of mind – in other words I don’t document like I should. Thank you for your encouragement through Proverbs 31 ministry.
    Peggy

  5. Darlene Snyder says:

I’m in!! Highlighting the answered prayers is a great idea!!! I have already been writing my requests but didn’t have a good system for keeping track of answered prayers. So thank you for this tip! Blessings!

  6. Debbie Parks says:

I have written out prayers in the past using Stormie’s books as a guide/template. She has encouraged me to pray more consistently for my family and loved ones. I keep a journal but don’t always write down my prayer requests as I did before. I believe writing them as you suggest would help me see the faithfulness of God.

  7. michelle du plessis says:

  15. I love this. I’m in!

  16. I really love this idea, but I don’t think I have a good idea on how to use it every day. Your description helped a little, but could you expand a little and describe how you use it on a daily basis? For some reason, this idea of a prayer journal has come at a time when my prayer life has been neglected by me. I think this is a nudge from God and I want obey him and start this today!

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Hi Joan, Your comment prompted me to add more details to my post. I hope it helps! Thanks for asking the question!!

  17. Joann Wehunt says:

    I ‘m in!
From a song I heard, when you don’t know what to say, just say Jesus!
When I feel like it’s the same prayers over and over, I start saying His name and I KNOW He hears my heart!

  18. I try to find some quiet time to pray for 30 minutes each morning and have been writing about it over the last 30 days. I got the idea from a couple of Christian books and decided to give it a try. It has not always been easy to be consistent, but it has helped me to be more peaceful and spend time with God. I have kept a thankfulness journal over the last 8 years but would love to try a prayer journal. I think it would be a great way to focus my prayer life and be a written record of how much our Father loves us and how closely he is involved with the intimate details of our life.

  19. I’m in!!! I absolutely like the idea of highlighting answered prayers! God is amazing!

  20. Good morning, Lyn!

I would love a copy of the prayer journal! I am in a season of my life in which I desire change. Having a space to capture all that God will be doing in my life would be a blessing.

  21. I have journaled in the past but haven’t done so lately and I do believe my prayer life has been less effective. Thank you for he opportunity to receive a beautiful journal for a new start.

  26. What a wonderful way of seeing God’s blessings. Thank you!! I’m in!

  27. Thank-you for your devotion today. I appreciate your honesty. Sometimes it can be so hard to get praying the same prayers. I recently started a prayer journal, again ๐Ÿ™‚ I too, like many of the other comments like the idea of highlighting ๐Ÿ™‚ I have prayers from others ( like a couple you mentioned), and lists of concerns. mine is in a zippered notebook to hold stuff.

  28. Victoria C says:

Thank you for this great idea. I’ve done prayer lists, but have never gone back to highlight the answered prayers. What a great, simple idea! Love it! Thank you for helping to jump-start my prayer life!

  29. Stacy Jeffries says:

I love that you highlight to show when the prayers have been answered! Journaling my thoughts and prayers to God have helped me so much, but I didn’t have a clear way to see when prayers were answered! I will highlight from now on! So encouraged by your post today – so many times I have felt tired of praying prayers. Thank you for sharing and encouraging me on the journey!!

  30. I’m in! This is exactly what I need to do. Thank you for sharing how you do it. It gives me a place to start.

  31. I have started several prayer book, all over the place. What a pretty one specifically for prayer. Love the idea if highlighting answered prayers. What a simple concept that will have such profound results.

  32. I long for a more effective prayer life! I’m so grateful for your simple ideas. God bless… Joyce

  33. Karen Hatch says:

I have kept a prayer journal in the past. I always found it a good way to release all my thoughts and concerns to the Lord. I like, Hannah, grew weary of seeming to be always praying for the same things and stopped journaling. I was looking for specific answers and missed when God gently answered a prayer. / by changing my heart . I also let busyness creep in and I didn’t “take” the time to journal.
The mistake I made was making the journal only ONE way, my thoughts and not sitting still enough to hear God’s thoughts while I was in prayer. Some of my best times in prayer while journaling was when I read God’s word first and focused on HIM and got into HIS presense. My prayers had a different feeling to them. I was really going before HIM and not just have a pity party.
I am at a point in my life, that I need to get back to journaling. I am ready to sit at my Savior’s feet and take in ALL that He has for me. I love to be in HIS presense. Journaling focuses me.

  34. I’m in! Wud love to win this, but for now I’m going to go find one of my kids extra spiral notebooks! Thank-you!

  35. What an inspiration!! I have been wanting to make myself

  40. I’m in! I’ve even wanting to do this fora long time, and I’m in! Thanks!

  41. I’ve just recently started using a prayer journal. This is such a great idea and came at just the right time! I’m really needing so see God’s faithfulness in my life right now. I know He is, it’s just been a tough time and I haven’t been feeling it. Thanks so much for all you do!

  43. Thank you for the information. I will be starting my journal today!

  44. Alice McDowell says:

    Lynn,

I was so encouraged by you today. I use to keep a prayer journal but some how have stopped, maybe cause I had filled it up and had not found another one.
I would love a new one.
I have been feeling like I keep praying for finances and seem like I keep one struggling.
Paycheck to paycheck. But you message made me look back at the times God did provide and answered not only my prayers but ones I had prayed for others in my journal.

  45. I like the idea of looking back and seeing all that God has done. We are human and thinking he isn’t answering our prayers.

  46. I’m in! I see so many godly women using them…I should too:)

  47. Melissa Barnes says:

Good morning! I must be honest that I start a prayer journal then quit. I love the idea of highlighting she. The answer comes! I am going to start today! This is such a great idea all the way around. I would so love this wonderful book! Grace and Peace in Christ!

  48. Stephanie says:

Thank you for the reminder about journaling and the importance of reviewing answered prayers! He is so faithful to us and we sometimes forget about all He has done for us. My hope is to begin journaling again and to highlight the answered prayers.

  49. I love what you have done and I am so excited to start one of my own! We have 6 kids with us, and 2 angels in Heaven, and we went through many struggles to get each of them! None of them “just came”….each were after long seasons of prayer!! We are trying to teach our children to be Godly children and we discuss the power of prayer daily. What better way to “prove” the power than by showing them just like you are able to do!! Thanks for the wonderful idea and what an awesome give away you are doing!! The Proverbs 31 devotions have a huge impact on my daily lufe. I’m so grateful for all of you!!

  50. I’m in! I really need to do this so that I will be able to see the works of God in my life.

  51. Wendy Williams says:

I was praying like Hannah this a.m. when I was prompted to grab my phone to read a word from the Lord that I’ve been holding onto for 24.5 years. I saw the email from Prov. 31 and said, “let’s see what the word is today.” Needless to say, I couldn’t read it well after a few lines, from all the tears. I’d love a journal to record my prayers, I’d want to go back and write in ones from the past, too. Regardless of if I get the journal, I was encouraged. God knew I needed to read your post. Thank you.

  52. I’m in. I need to know the peace that passes all understanding right now.

  53. God is amazing! Seeing written confirmation is such a blessing!!

  54. What a great idea to highlight answered prayers! Thank you for sharing.

  55. Thanks for the encouragement. I love to keep prayer journals as well. I usually use a red pen to write in answers to prayers. I have been using the dollar store version of notebooks due to budget constraints, but would be so pleased to own the pretty one you are giving away. Thanks again for being obedient to God’s calling on your life. I needed to read this today.

  56. I am a new subscriber and this is a blessing for me to write down my prayers. I am gonna tell my sisters at the church to do this also! May all our prays be answered with abundance!

Great gift idea – count me in please!

  60. I’m in! I have kept prayer journals in the past and got away from it. I just decided yesterday that I needed to start again! The tip on highlighting answered prayers is awesome! Thank you!

  61. I love the idea of highlighting. My girls keep a prayer journal too & what a perfect way for them to see what God has answered. There’s something about seeing it in writing that makes it real to them. Thanks for sharing!

  62. God’s timing (and yours) is amazing. Prayer journals came up at my bible study this week. I have never had one and quite frankly, did not know where to start. Thanks for your blog today! I’m in!

  63. I would love to start keeping track of my answered prayers. It has been a long time since I have done this.

  64. I’m in! I have my grandmother’s prayer journals, and I’d like to leave a similar legacy for my daughter. we need to see God’s daily interaction and involvement in our lives. Thank you for the offer!

  65. I used to keep a ‘written’ prayer journal, but a few years ago decided to put them all in google docs. While in a lot of ways it has been very helpful – always available on my phone or tablet, and for those times when I meet and pray for ‘random’ people on the street or grocery store that I pray for and subsequently add them to my list, it is equally hard since I ‘delete’ them after the prayers been answered, or I feel led that God has provided. So they aren’t ‘highlighted’ any longer for me to go back to. While there are times that our Father brings some of my answered prayers to mind, it is so nice to be able to go back at will and see His great work being accomplished!!!

I also have the boy and girl prayers in my ‘journal’ – I copied and pasted them so they would always be available! I also have a ‘home blessing’ prayer that I use fairly frequently to pray His blessings over my house and family! Our God and Father are so incredibly awesome! Have a blessed day!

  66. Robbie Schuchard says:

Love your idea of highlighting answered prayers and your notes of thanksgiving around the highlights. I have also found it encouraging to look back in Journals. I was tempted to throw some away but my husband encouraged me to keep them to remind me of God’s faithfulness.

  67. Danielle I says:

I’m in!! Thank you, a much needed post!

  68. I love the beautiful prayer journal! Little things like this make our quiet time with the Lord even more special! I hope I win.

  69. Leitha Ebanks says:

Never journaled before but I’m in.

  70. I enjoyed your devotional today on Proverbs 31 and came to your site to resd this post. I would love to win a pretty new prayer journal to replace my spiral notebook. Thanks for your encouraging words.

  71. I am in. I need to get back to journaling. It has been too long.

  72. I am currently praying through the Psalms. I speak them back to God, and am delighted each time He answers my prayers! It is quick and easy before I leave for work each day. The prayer journal is BEAUTIFUL! Thanks!

  73. Sharon walker says:

    A wonderful giveaway!
    I am in
I am an adult dealing with my mother’s passing and the flashbacks of the
    Child abuse I endured.

  74. Simple but powerful tips! Thanks, I’m in!

  75. I have never kept a “prayer journal” but now feel the need to do so. Thanks for your words today that helped me see my need for one. Have a bless day.

  76. Wow! So glad this was the first thing I saw when I opened my email this morning. I have struggled for some time with keeping a prayer journal. I seem to have post it notes struck everywhere and this makes my prayers so inconsistent…it depends on the where the note is struck and how often I visit that certain place throughout the day (or week) on how often I pray for that certain need. I carry a pretty large purse/bag, so I can see myself jotting notes (in my journal!!!) and sticking the journal in my bag. Should be simple. I am one of those people who is so busy during the day that I actually…should I be ashamed to say this??…but I actually set an alarm on my phone every hour to remind me to pray. It depends on what activity I am involved in at the time as to how much time I spend in prayer, but I just feel it is important for me to be reminded. Thank you so much for your ministry and thanks for the advice.

  77. Jessica Phillips says:

This is exactly what I needed today! I don’t prayer journal, but I am going to start. I can see that without it, it is very easy for me to focus only on the unanswered prayers which seem so huge to me at times. Praise the Lord for your ministry and Proverbs 31!
    Blessings to you
    ~ Jessica

  78. Thank you Lynn! What sections do you have in your journal? Your post prompted a vision for mine and I like your idea of sections….family, friends, current world events, current personal events, “salvation needed”,…were the ones I came up with. Do you have any others? God bless you!

  79. I’m in. I have used Microsoft outlook tasks as a prayer journal in the past.

  80. Lynn – thank you for showing us how you use and work your prayer journal. My question is, do you pray over something once, write it in your journal, and then never write it again? Maybe praying it again, but not writing it? Or, like me, is there something on your heart that you feel needs prayer daily and you write that prayer over and over? Does this make sense to you? Once answered, if it’s written down daily the highlighter alone would overwhelm the book! LOL thank you for your posts -I enjoy them! In God’s Love, Millie

    1. Im going to start a prayer journal I love the idea of the hilighting the answered rayed

  81. My prayer life is growing. God has been dealing with me about making Him my first priority. I used to journal my prayers, but have stopped. This is a a great reminder that I need to begin again. Thank you.

  82. cheyene schraft says:

IM IN. Im looking forward to starting this.

  83. Renee Lackie says:

Thank you for teaching us what some people take for granted we all should know how to do and for sharing from your personal, all be it the professional pages, journal so we can have an idea of what you do in yours. The pictures and explanations were a big help as well. Would love to have the copy of the nice one you are giving away, if I am the winner, of course!

  84. Michelle Komiso. says:

Count me in. I have a prayer journal, but was trying to figure out how to use it. The perfectionist in me is afraid ill use it wrong, so I have not been consistent. Thanks for sharing your pictures showing that it doesn’t have to be perfect, it is the desires of our heart that God sees and answers!

  85. Patricia D says:

I have used a prayer journal in the past and then gone a stray but would love to start again with a brand new book to use.

    1. I have been journaling for years and highlighting answered prayers has never occurred to me, Thank you so much.

  86. Sherry Whitson says:

I’m in! I kept a prayer journal for many, many years and recently pulled them out to read. I was amazed and felt blessed that most of them were answered. What a wonderful God We Serve!! After reading your blog today, I have decided to once again commit to journaling. Thank you for the sweet reminder and encouragement to be ever so thankful for our blessings.

  87. Lynn, the Lords timing is perfect !! I have tried to keep a journal in the past. After reading your blog The Lord lovingly showed me that ” perfectionism” and lack of priority have kept me from continuing to keep a prayer journal. What a personal revelation for me !!! Thank you for showing a picture of your actual journal and sharing in your article. That transparency from your daily life allowed a life changing freedom in mine !!!! Blessings to you !!!! May The Lord continue to use your life for His purpose and glory !!

  88. Martha Morton says:

I’m in! I have never kept a prayer journal, but have journalized during times of great stress and problems that seemed to have no answer. I think this would be a good time to start a prayer journal.

  89. This was something I needed to hear today! Thank you!

  90. I would love one of those I’ve started something but need t be more faithful to using it

  91. Thanks so much for the reminder to have a prayer journal – a reminder in the hard ‘today’ of God’s faithfulness in the past – He’s not forsaken us & is working in ways we don’t see or understand. Yesterday morning my spirit was heavy; I texted a friend & she said “I’m available if you want to get together!” What a sweet gift to my heart as we prayed & shared for a couple hours. Realized last night it was a year ago my sister-in-law went into the hospital, and on May 2, stepped into the arms of Jesus. My heart aches for not only myself but her children & grandchildren. I will begin recording prayer requests again & highlight God’s answers! I’d love to have the ‘pretty’ journal.

  92. Thanks for inspiring me to beginning actually writing my prayers down again. I sure seeing all,the answers will be a real blessing to look back on.

  93. I try to keep a simple blessings/gifts journal. Just random notes of things I’m grateful for but it’s quite a pick me up on a bad day.

  94. Christina says:

I started sort of the prayer ministry. There are about 45 of the scattered across the country that pray for others needs. I would love to have something like this to write down my prayers and then to see how they were answered so that I can share that with the others in our ministry. And others that are not in the ministry to get them to also pray for others. Your words touch me today thank you so much

  95. I find that every time GOD reaches down to me & I look up to HIM & he answers a prayer it increases my faith & trust in HIM . The only one we can run to in any circumstance. It is such a peace to be able to talk DIRECTLY to my SAVIOR & he hears & cares & answers prayers. HE is my ROCK.. HE is my EVERYTHING.

  96. Thank you for showing us your prayer journal. I’ve never done one and I imagined it being way more complicated than that. I think the other challenge in this is being able/willing to acknowledge God as the answer to our prayers and not just chalking it up to coincidence or pure luck. Sometimes I pray about something coming up and while I survive it, I don’t feel like I thrived in it and then I feel like God has failed me. But in reality, it was only because of Him that I was able to get through it at all. His answers don’t always look exactly like we want them to look but they are always for our best.

  97. I’ve had many prayer journals over the years but now I just pray. I can identify with having ‘praying the same old prayer’ syndrome as well. Not so much any more as I’ve been on this road over 40 years but I’m sure having said that that it will hit. ๐Ÿ™‚ One thing I’m doing now is putting pictures of loved ones I want to pray for in a recipe box with my memory verses and pray for them by face. I like that……..it has more reality for me. Be nice to win the journal………….. ๐Ÿ™‚

  98. Thank You for your encouraging words. I have kept a journal off and on but not consistently, I am encouraged to start back up again.

    I am in!!! Thank You

  99. Sharon Phillips says:

I have never thought to do this, but am now excited to start! I would love your journal, but if I’m not chosen, I will go get one and get started soon! Thanks~

  100. I have been trying to do my best to make my prayers and trying to see if they are answered. I have never thought about an prayer journal. I am very new at praying, so reading about the journal is a great idea. Thanks for you help. I really enjoy proverbs 31 web sight. Thanks again

  101. Thank you! I never thought of highlighting. I’m always writing all over the margine- or crossing out answered prays, it wasn’t working- now I will highlight! I’ve asked for the proverbs 31 prayer journal from my husband for Mother’s Day. It would be lovely to win it:)

  102. Thank you so much for the ideas!

  103. I’m in, Lynn! Thanks!

  104. Stephanie says:

Thank you for your example. I love how you go back & highlight answered prayers.

  105. Thank you for your words of encouragement! I have wanted to start a prayer journal but never did because I really never felt I knew how to do it “properly”. Thank you for sharing your events pages. This helped. One question though, for you family and friends pages do you just make a list with details and pray over them daily even if ones have been answered before and after? Silly question I realize but I guess I just needed to see how other people used their journals. I will begin a journal! Thank you!

  106. Thank you for openly sharing your journal. I never thought I could be so simple. I always thought it had to be long and descriptive. I love the idea of highlighting so you can glance to see God’s goodness and faithfulness.

  107. Thank you for the idea of highlighting! A great idea for me–and for my children to be able to see clearly that God does indeed listen to all we say –and He does answer us. It is a great teaching idea! You also made me feel better when you said that your journal is a bit messy! I have bits and pieces everywhere –the journal is a great place to keep all of it so that it does not get lost. Many thanks —and Blessings to you.

  108. Great ideas!! Thanks for sharing!!
    I’m in!!

  109. Teresa Sanders says:

Please enter me in the Prayer Journal give-away, I am a praying woman but have never written them down. This really looks like something I could benefit from. Thanks for your words of encouragement and dedication to women everywhere.

  110. The business of life has stolen…NO, I have allowed the business of life to keep me from journaling my prayers, or even some days, from doing more than just throwing up the same pleading prayer for the same issues over and over. Your post reminds me that GOD IS FAITHFUL, even though I am not. I have prayed the prayers of Hannah. I have one little precious daughter in answer to that eight year prayer. I KNOW He answers and has not forgotten me. I would love for my legacy to be a praying mom. I will set aside time to journal so my little family can tangibly see more of God’s faithfulness.

  111. I love writing in a prayer journal. One of my treasured prayers is when I prayed for our daughters after many miscarriages and heartbeats we wouldn’t hear again was devastating. It is so beautiful to see how God was so faithful! And I know our other babies are held by our Loving Lord and we will see them again. Looking back at prayers grows your faith in the Lord and is a beautiful reminder of His love for us. I cant wait to highlight going forward what a great idea! Thank you

  112. I have kept a prayer journal for about 3 years and have it has been the best way to stay consistent in my prayer life. Being consistent has brought me closer to God and has kept me enjoy the closeness of His Spirit.

  113. Thanks so much for sharing exactly what yours is like; it is quite helpful. I’ve been wanting to do a “real” prayer journal for a long time. I have notebooks I’ve started before, but have I been so sporadic and inconsistent with it that I just kind of gave up. This is a real encouragement!

  114. Kelli Garner says:

Thank you…just what I needed today! With my church, I am in the process of reading the Bible through and a prayer journal would compliment this journey. My oldest will start college this August and I know there will be a lot more praying in my future. Thanks for showing the “how to’s” of a prayer journal.

  115. Debbie Neild says:

Thank you very much for sharing on prayer journals. I have kept one (not as consistently as I would really like!) but the idea of highlighting the answered prayers is really great!! A wonderful way of quickly realizing how faithful our Lord really is, especially when we are feeling discouraged. I tend to use the time of driving to work to pray over the different situations my loved ones and I are facing but sometimes forget to go back and write down when God answers! Thanks for the graphic reminder!!

  116. Thank you for today. I always start a prayer journal but never finish. I pray, do bible studies & read the bible, have difficulty writing. I am determined to start right now. I must realize it is mine & will be seen by only me. Handwriting BAD, but who cares. God can read it! Thank you!

  117. I have a prayer journal but am not always faithful about using it. I love the idea of highlighting the answered prayers! Indeed it will make it easier to see God’s answers and His amazing faithfulness. Thanks for the tips. Blessings on your ministry!

  118. I landed on your blog from the P31 devotional. Thank you for both! I have tried a number of times to keep a journal – I really like your idea of going back and highlighting answered prayers. Thanks for sharing!

  119. Thank you for your words of encouragement today. I am doing my first online bible study right now – Living so that… and am loving it. But it always seems like my prayer life is so childlike. I don’t know why I’ve never tried a prayer journal yet, I love journals, I have them all over my house for other reasons – I’m a scrapbooker and am writing things my granddaughter says and notes on gardening, etc. I’m going to pull one out and start a prayer journal tonight. By doing that I will be able to see not only the growth in my faith and how God HAS been answering my prayers but also see how I am maturing in my prayer life. Thank you and God bless you in your ministry.

  120. Christie W. says:

    I’m in! Thanks

  121. I have been writing my prayer requests for a number of years. I sometimes add the date the prayers are answered. So encouraging to see God’s work especially when I need a boost!

  122. love how you highlight answered prayers to see how God has provided!!

  123. Thank you for showing an example of your journal. I was wondering how to get one set up. I really want to give this a shot!

  124. Today’s devotiional was truly what I needed to hear and a blessing to my weary soul. Thank you for being a vessel to spread God’s word straight to the heart of women.

    1. Oh yes! I’m in! ๐Ÿ™‚

  125. christy n says:

    I’m in! ๐Ÿ™‚

  126. What a beautiful way to see God’s work in our life and those we pray for! I really need to start doing this!! A great way to keep our fellowship with Jesus strong! Thank you, Lynn!!

  127. I’m in Lynn, never kept a prayer journal before, thanks for sharing how it’s done.

  128. I have never kept a prayer journal but after reading today’s P31 devotional, I want to start. What a great way to boost my relationship with God when I can so clearly see him working in my life!
    Thank you!

  129. Great, tangible way to see how God is working in our lives! Thanks for sharing!

  130. diana mack says:

What a timely article as i have been bitter for awhile now for a prayer going on 8 or so years thank you

  131. Meighn Sanchez says:

Lynn, this is an answer to prayers I’ve made asking God to help me cultivate a love for praying! I enjoy writing and to be honest don’t pray as much as I should. Mainly, because I never prayed with my family growing up. My parents prayed privately. So for a long time I wasn’t sure if I did it right. And I always envied those that prayed so eloquently. I believe God heard my prayers and answered them. Now it’s time for me to break the chains that keep me from doing what I ought! Thank you for this post!

  132. Thanks for the simple tip of highlighting answered prayers in one color. I like this and will begin to do this. I had planned to review old journals because I need some encouragement right now. I will be mindful of this as I read. Yes!! I love it!!

  133. Jennifer baker says:

I’m in!! I’m new in being a praying Christian.

  134. I try to pray everyday, I keep a page of prayer requests, new each week, after my Bible study. I like the idea of a prayer journal though, will start giving that a try!

  135. Toni Lowery says:

I’m in!!! Would love to win the Prayer Journal!
    Thanks for your blog!!!

  136. Thanks for the reminder to keep a prayer journal . . . I’ve struggled with this over the years. I end up being inconsistent and then quit. By doing so, I know I miss out on some blessings The Lord has for me. Hopefully, the journal will help me be more consistent. I love the highlighting idea, too. Simple, yet effective!

  137. Often, I will write to God, rather than praying out loud or in my head, (It’s what helps me stay focused!) but I have never kept a prayer journal like what you have in your post here! Think I’ll be giving this a try…highlighting included! Thanks!

  138. Thanks for sharing. I’ve just recently started having daily devotionals and trying to pray daily. I’ve not done it in years and I’m trying to make a change in my life and hoping it will reflect in my teenage son’s life. I really like the idea of having it written down so you can go back and see proof that God really does answer prayers.

  139. Mary Ellen says:

I have been keeping a prayer journal. I find it so helpful to see what I pray for as I ask God to help. I had a period of time this past year where I could not write-physically could not. My right hand and thumb were very sore. Getting older is not for wimps, my dear. Anyway-last night I tried again to write-and Hallelujah I was able! I also read back in my journal about some of the older prayers. Many have been wonderful answered, as I had prayed. Other were answered in God’s way, as the person I prayed for went Home with Him. God’s will. But praying is the whole key-me talking to God, pouring my heart out, asking Him for guidance, and healing-for me and for others. To see the prayers written is so good for me-underscores my thoughts, and wishes. And God is good-all the time. He is always listening. Praise His name! Could use a new Journal though-Lynn. ๐Ÿ™‚

  140. I do journal but I find myself at a standstill. I’m struggling with a lot right now in my prayer life. Please pray for me in this area. I truly enjoy P31 ministry. Thank you and GOD bless.

  141. I’m in!
I’m tired I’m worn my heart is heavy I am weary and today’s encouragement encouraged me to scan back in my life of God’s faithfulness and to once again pick up a prayer journal and start to write my prayers on its pages so that I can reflect how He will be faithful in this season of my life too!

  142. Donna Hall says:

For many years i have purchased journal books with the attention to actually using them but never had or do. I know how important it is to do but need consistency. This year My goal is to be consistent (disciplined) in a few things for this year and one of them is journaling. i am looking forward to starting this journey in my life and truly be reminded of God’s amazing and loving hands for my life.

  143. I’ve been thinking of starting a prayer journal but wasn’t sure what that would look like. I’m In!

  144. I’m in! This is great!

  145. Lately I’ve been using a “Prayer Warrior “app on my Kindle fire. But it struck me as I read this blog that I may not have access to this app say 20 years from now (or even sooner) I should be keeping a written record so that I can have it forever. Time to shop for a notebook….but first I’ll wait to see if I won this one ๐Ÿ™‚

  146. Thank you Lynn for your ideas about a prayer journal. I gave up facebook for Lent and really tried to spend all that previously wasted time in devotion and prayer. I started a journal (a little 5×7 ring binder) with Bible passages that are becoming special to me and devotions that have really made a mark on my heart. I take notes during my ministers sermon and they go in there too. I have recorded names of people I prayed for but not exactly what I was praying about. I never thought that being able to go back and see how the Lord has blessed me and answered my prayers would be important. I am adding that to my journal today because He has already answered a prayer request for my daughter’s class schedule for next year! Praise God!

  147. What a great idea! I’m in.

  148. I love the highlighting idea. I use to keep a prayer journal. With the demands of motherhood, I have gotten out of the habit. Now is probably the time I need it most. Time to restart!!!

  149. I’m in.I would like to start a prayer journal
to help me with my prayer life .I loved the way
went back and highlighted the answered prayers.

  150. After reading the P31 devotional this morning I am inspired to start a prayer journal! I try to journal after reading my devotion everyday and reflect with the questions at the end. Today when it said to look back and go over prayers God has answered in your life I had no account of what he has done. I know that he has answered many of my prayers and will continue to do so. If I would have written those prayers down in the past and gone back and looked at them today I would have really seen God’s hand in my life! How AMAZING it would have been to see a account of how God is working in my life and my families! I am starting a prayer journal today and would to have this one you are giving away. Thank you to P31 for daily devotionals that meet us exactly where we are!

  151. Johnette Peck says:

Lynn, this is a great idea. I would like to start a prayer journal.

  152. It is always amazing to read through past prayer journals and see how God has worked in my life. Not always the answers i wanted, but answered prayers none the less.

  153. stephanie says:

“I’m in”–I want to show my daughter how to start one

  154. I am excited about starting arrayed journal. It has been on my mind to do for a while. I knew todY was the day to start when I read about it on Proverbs 31. Thank you for the encouragment.

  155. Thank you for sharing your prayer journal and showing me how to set one up. I’ve kept notes on paper and placed them in my Bible to a point where it was “bursting at the seams!” This will help me be more organized, and like you said, “consistent” with my prayer life.

  156. Marianne Orr says:

I have been wanting to start a Prayer Journal, your words and illustrations have convinced me I need to start now and quit putting it off. Thank you so much for your encouraging words.

  157. Why have I never thought to do this before? Thank you for getting me started!

  158. I’m in! I always have good intentions to take the time to pray, so maybe this would inspire me! Thank you!

  159. Melissa K. says:

I sure wish I could get organized and be more intentional with my prayer life. I have some many people, things, and situations that weigh on my heart and they deserve more than a bullet prayer.

  160. Angela Wilson says:

Life is hard and sometimes we don’t understand God’s timing – your words were an encouragement not to lose Hope & to keep pressing on through prayer. I will think back to all the times God has been faithful!

  161. Raean Shattuck says:

I’m in! God bless you, your ministry has blessed me so much!

  162. I like the idea of keeping a prayer journal and I plan to start today. It is important to count God’s blessings because we can so easily forget about His faithfulness. Thank you!

  163. I do not have a good prayer life and want one. This has encouraged to start. Thank you.

  164. I have never heard of a prayer journal, but what a FANTASTIC idea! I’m in!

  165. I am inconsistent with using a prayer journal. I have several ideas that I want to post into one, though, and lots of scripture verses too.

  166. I have been asking God to reveal to me how He wants me to pray and it amazes me the way He answers! I have learned so much about prayer and increasing my intimacy with God through prayer in the last several weeks. I am excited and will definitely start a prayer journal. Thank you!

  167. I have never had a prayer journal. I could never figure out how they work, and being the perfectionist I am, I wouldn’t start one until I was sure I could set it up exactly right. Weather I win the giveaway or not, I feel I am ready to start one.

  168. I’m in!! This is what I needed this morning. I have been feeling so lost and alone lately and finding it hard to pray. Thank you for sharing your awesome idea, Lynn.

  169. Cheryl Slocum says:

I’m in. Loved your post today and words of wisdom on prayer journal. Thank you for sharing this message with us. My husband died this year. Like you we were married 25 years. He was my best friend and prayer partner. Having God as the third core in our marriage is how we got through the many challenges mans world suprises us with. I miss not only my husband but “in house” prayer warrior everyday. Since his death my mind wonders during prayer time. Thank you for reminding me of the benifits of the prayer journal. It will help me remain focused during my quiet times with God and the pink highlighter lines will remind me on the tougher days that God is in control, is there for me and I am not alone. It I like that this one is has scripture verses already in it to inspire me and get me going. Let the journaling begin! I praise God in advance for all the pink lines he will put in it for our answered prayers in the lives of many. Thank you Lynn

  170. I’m In!! It may sound hard to believe, but I was never sure how I should set up a prayer journal so that it is useful for more than just writing down the people I want to pray for. This is so simple and makes so much sense! Thank you!!

  171. I have been journaling for many , many years and highlighting answered prayer has never occurred to me, Thank you so much.

  172. What a wonderful way to share!! I have prayer cards everywhere!! I have some prayer cards for my children & grandchildren in my bathroom; I have one in my purse right now for a church member that is having surgery this morning; I have prayer requests on my computer sent to the Prayer Team each week from church members & friends. I have prayers scattered everywhere!!! It would be nice to have a prayer journal to enter the prayers and record the results! That is a great reminder to go back and ask about that person, situation and/or event too!!

  173. Rosemary Darrow says:

Good morning blessings to you. This is such a beautiful idea. I keep several spiral notebooks as well but I have never done a prayer journal. I keep journals of general bible study materials but not a prayer journal. This is such a powerful tool for our daily lives. Thank you for this amazing idea. My niece recently gave her life to the Lord and it would be a perfect gift for her. I soon would like to make gift bags at my church for new believers and this would be an awesome gift idea. God bless you.

  174. I have never kept a prayer journal but I think I will start now. I have had a hard three months without my 17year old daughter because I had to put her in Teen Challenge in Seale Al. I have prayed more these last three months than I have in years, I saw my daughter for the first time in three months Easter weekend and the visit went well. I know it is because so many were praying, she is in a fifteen month program so I need lots of prayers.
    Cindy

  175. Carolyn Tinsley says:

I recently began following Proverbs 21thru a post on Facebook. Today,s devotion spoke directly to me. I have been praying a specific prayer for 17 years. Lately I have been praying for God to keep me close & seeking a way to organize my prayer life. God is always faithful in giving us exactly what we need when we need it..

  176. Carolyn Tinsley says:

I have never used a blog before please do not use my full name. Carol is enough.

  177. Karen Lawson says:

I have never thought of a prayer journal. I have lists where I have written names of friends and family I want to remember in prayer, but never thought of keeping a journal of all of these! Thank you! I think I will get me one! This is such an awesome Idea! Some days I just don’t know what to pray, so I just sit in silence with God. Thank you so much for sharing.

  178. Thank you for your idea of highlighting answered prayer requests. I don’t normally go back and read my requests so this is a great idea. Thank You! I’m in…

  179. Lynn ,Thank you for sharing how you keep a prayer journal! I am recently separated from my husband and he moved out about 2 months ago. So, some days I don’t know how or what to pray either.I know God is prevailing though and He is keeping me going!

  180. I have never kept a prayer journal but have been looking for ways to hold myself accountable for all the times I promise people that I will send up a prayer on their behalf! So glad to have come across this idea!

  181. I love using prayer journals. I find it’s what helps me to stay focused while praying. I’m not as consistent with my prayer journal as I would like to be but when I do I enjoy writing out my prayers and thoughts and spending that time in prayer.

  182. I’m in! Love this. My own journal is a mess of prayers, happenings, sadnesses, and scraps of paper!

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Doesn’t matter how it looks, Melody! As long as the prayers and praises are going to Jesus!

  183. Thank you so much for this!! I printed out the prayers for our daughters and son. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve added them to a new makeshift journal that I’m starting today! I’m going to also glean from Stormies book to pray for my unsaved husband and our marriage!

  184. “Lift up your hands to him in prayer, pleading for your children…” Lamentations 2:19b
Have seen not only my prayers but the prayers of my sisters answered as we pray together in our MOMS In Prayer group…love the pink highlighting…prayers covered by the blood of Jesus!!!

I’m in! I have never done a prayer journal…what a great way to start!

  187. Kathy Charles says:

Great idea. God is good – all the time.

  188. Ashley Ford says:

I love the idea of highlighting answered prayers. I have been looking for a way to make my prayer life stronger. I think this is it. I am currently reading how to pray for boys and am loving it. As a mom and wife sometimes it is hard to put all the hopes of my heart into words. I think starting a prayer journal is going to help immensely with that. Thanks for posting it today.

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

GREAT book and amazing author too ๐Ÿ™‚

  189. This is just what I need! I never knew about an actual prayer journal!! The Lord knew this was the answer to my prayers today. What a wonderful way to reflect on God’s faithfulness, Goidness, and Grace. CANT WAIT TO GET STARTED!!!! Thank you so much, Lynn. I learn so much from your blog. Have a blessed day!

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Thank you for your words of encouragement, Jackie. I’ll just keep on being honest while we are at it…just like there are days when I am weary of praying, there are MANY days I grow weary of writing. Why? Does it make a difference? What do I have to say? My family has issues too so what do you have to offer? Just a few of the thoughts that go through my brain when I turn on my computer.

If I ever write anything that helps, it has to be Him because we’ll all just in the same place!

  190. What a great idea to highlight the answers! I have journaled (very unorganized) for a while now. This ONE booklet would help me be able to go back and see the answers. They are plenty! Thanks to you and Proverbs 31 team for your obedience and encouragement to Kingdom words daily.

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Thanks for the encouragement, Linda! I appreciate you!

  191. I’m in! Highlighting answers to prayer is a fantastic idea! (Even when the answer is “no”).

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

That’s right, Kim, even when the answer is “no”. I was noticing that yesterday; times when God has said He and of course, He knew exactly what He was doing and I did not! So glad HE is in control and not me!!!

  192. In just the past week I been wanting to organize my prayer life and be more faithful in it. I was so excited when I saw your topic today. Today will be day 1 for me. How fun it would be to win this give away and use that prayer journal.

  193. I will be starting a prayer journal, as memory and consistency are not my strong suits. Thank you for sharing your method and your heart.

  194. I’m In … Thank You !!

  196. I’m In! Love the highlighting after God’s answered the prayer. Thanks!

  197. I was just thinking about this concept yesterday. I think I am going to start one of these. This book would be a great start. Thanks

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Hi Amy – so good to see your name! I was just thinking of you yesterday…I saw your sign up sheet from John’s Creek in my office! I hope all is well in Alpharetta and in the youth group there! I would love to see you all again!

  202. Airley Ferrell says:

Im definitely IN! I have kept prayer journals in the past and have spent time reading back through them and remembering where my heart was at the time I wrote those prayers…noting how things have changed, and how many prayers have been answered! I love the idea of highlighting the entries where God answered! Thank you for the encouragement and the ideas! Would love to win <3

  203. This is just what I needed. I have recently started journaling as I study but right now all my prayers, study notes, sermon notes, etc are all in one messy journal. Thank you for the inspirational idea.

  204. I have a Journal that I use for encouragement in my marriage– I write ONLY the positive growth in our marriage. . . . .but, don’t have a Prayer Journal — that would be awesome!!
I have had a Journal thru the years & it is very helpful & encouraging!!

  205. Becky Lopez says:

I would like to receive this prayer journal. I know of several prayers that God has answered but I have never written them down or kept track of them. I would like to begin doing this. My faith has been known to waver and I have to consistently remind myself of whose I am and that He is in control of it all. I recently lost my Mom (the day before my birthday in March) and my sister recently had a huge mass removed a couple of weeks ago, that turned out to be ovarian cancer. They assured her that they got it all but still she will go through a year of chemo. My oldest daughter is so out of touch with her family and we are afraid that she is doing things that she shouldn’t, which in turn makes us worry about my grandchildren. I pray so hard for all of these things but sometimes he feels so far away. Thank you for this Encouragement For Today. I love seeing how He works in others lives.

  206. Brenda W. says:

I have such an urged to pray now. I find myself praying or feeling the need to pray now more than I have ever before. Sometime I don’t even have words to pray I just say Jesus and I believe He completes my sentences for me. I would love to have this journal to help me get organized. And Continue to pray for me as I continue to pray and believe God to bring me through this storm I am going through. I love you all.

  207. I’m in! Never done a prayer journal before but I really, really need this right now… weary, difficult days.

    Thank you for your ministry!

  208. HOLLEY WESTENDICK says:

    I am most definitely in!!

  209. I like the idea of having a journal set aside just for prayer and also highlighting when the prayer is answered. Provides testimony and to be thankful.
    I’m in

  210. Kathy Rice says:

What a wonderful idea! Thank you so much for this explanation about your prayer journal. I really need this in my life right now! As a wife and mother, I need this reassurance that I am not alone. . . thank you so much!

  211. I love this idea. I’m in!! A generous Thank You!!!!

  212. I’m in! There is something about seeing things visually that help me remember. I’m going to start a journal so that I can “see” all God has done, especially on my low faith days! Thank you.

  213. Christine Duis says:

I’m in! What great encouragement to be diligent with a prayer journal…and then to be able to see the highlighted blessings! Great idea:)

  214. Your devotion spoke right to my heart today! I was having “one of those days” & there was your devotion, “tired of praying the same prayers” & I said “So am I” & immediately read it! It turned my day right around!!!
Thank you!! And count me in on your generous give away!

  215. Ashley Rodriguez says:

Thank you for sharing how you go about your prayer journal. I have never thought of this idea, and I love it. This is a beautiful journal also. How I will better be able to write and relate back to how faithful God is! I’m in! Thank you! Have a beautiful day!

  216. Thank you, this is what I need. How easy is it to forget all the prayers God has answered and let you life focus on the “one” he hasn’t. Decision made! I’m starting a prayer journal.

  217. Love the idea of highlighting answered prayers!!! Thank you!

  218. Virginia Betz says:

I’m in, Thanks for the view of your journal, I never thought about high lighting answered prayers.

  219. Adriana U says:

    I’m definitely in ๐Ÿ™‚
I love praying. I have prayerful conversations with God throughout my day.

  220. I love this idea! We all need to be reminded, especially on BAD days, of all the prayers God has answered in our lives. He is soooo good to us. I don’t ever want to take his grace and mercy for granted. Thank you for your ministry.

  221. I’m a newlywed and the first year has not been blissful. I’m through standing on my own and I pray prayers over my husband, my marriage and me.

  222. Maria Goodwin says:

This really is a good idea. I’ve attempted to keep a prayer journal in the past, but got lazy and didn’t keep up with it. This post is encouraging me to start up again, especially as I enter a time of hardship as my mom battles serious health issues. Thanks for sharing!

  223. I’m in! What a pretty way to start the day!!

  224. After many suggestions from those around me during a very hard time in my life, a while back I started a thankfulness journal. It has been so great and even my kids (4&7) are very used to me ending my day with it and my trusty pen. they very frequently offer to help me with it and offer their little insight into what they are thankful for on a daily basis. a few days ago I realized we were so close to the end of the empty pages, then they would soon all be filled. Though the thought of a formal prayer journal is a bit intimidating, I think it would be a great idea for me to grow in my relationship and faith in God. This may be my next big step.

  225. I’ve never kept a prayer journal but would like to start. I’m going to subscribe to your blog and hope to get some inspiration and motivation. Thank you.

  226. I keep a journal and it has been so much help to me. I am going through so hard times right now and I just get the journal and write my feelings down constantly. I add my prayers in with it but I really like the idea of having just a prayer journal. Thank you for sharing.

  227. I am on the road alot at work and often pray at that time when I am driving alone. I stop and pray when I see a request on social media (and there have been many lately). I have kept a journal in the past. Maybe getting a new one will encourage me to write down and keep up with this better!

  228. Your devo today for Proverbs 31 is something I need encouragement in right now. I’m having a difficult time seeing my prayers answered. 2014 has brought me many challenges and sorrow. The last 3 years of my life have seemed to be a waiting game. I do know God is/has been faithful and I have seen His hand in my life. I do not doubt Him but I do get discouraged. Your tips have encouraged me to make my journal more of a prayer journal. The highlighting tip, so simple yet very effective! And I LOVE highlighters. Thanks for sharing it does encourage and reminds us that we aren’t alone in our struggles!

  229. Sabrina Hamilton says:

I never thought of keeping a prayer journal but after reading the Provebs 31″I’m Tired of Praying the Same Prayers” and then actually reading this blog, a prayer journal is just what I need!!

Often I get stuck remembering what God has already done for me outside of the big things and I forget all the things that I want God to answer for me. Praying becomes overwhelming when I try to remember everything at once. The many small prayers that he answers gets lost in my day to day bustle of life and the requests of others and the tugs on my heart for prayer seem to fade as the days progress. Seeing how you write the prayers and then highlight them once they are answered, so makes sense to me. With a prayer journal I can continue to pray the unanswered prayers of my heart and the hearts of others and thank Him for the billions of answered prayers simultaneously.

I love this idea and will get myself a journal tonight!!!

Thank you Lynn … this truly blessed my soul. ๐Ÿ™‚

  230. Cynthia T. says:

    Hi Lynn,
I used to keep a prayer journal years ago. A few years of devastating events has kept me from writing anything down anymore. It became too hard to look at the words.
I have begun praying again and your post today reminds me of the sweetness of journaling prayers. I hope I can get inspired enough to start writing things down again.
I would like a copy of your journal as a start.
Thank you and may God’s grace continue to carry you and your family.
    Cynthia

  231. Jessica F says:

I have been meaning to start a prayer journal for years now and didn’t know how. Thank you for your simple way of explaining it and showing an example. God is good and I want to remember it all the time. Blessings!

  232. Rose Marye says:

You wanted to know about my prayer. I am always praying or talking to God. It is the time I need to sit and listen that I find hard to find in my busy day. I have a daughter that I am praying for whose marriage is ending and it is something that she doesn’t want, but sees no way to keep from it, but I have a son that needs the most prayers.

  233. Thank you so much for answering God’s call and allowing Him to use you to bless my life. My goal for this year is to strive for balance in my life, and one area I’m working on is creating a more meaningful and personal relationship with God through my prayer life. Your devotion today on Proverbs31 couldn’t have appeared at a better time. Your words are always such a blessing, and I look forward to growing in God’s love this year through your ministry. Thank you for being a blessing in my life!

  234. Stacey Ciullo-Ramos says:

Came across your blog this morning as I was searching for a new devotional. I’ve used a prayer journal on and off over the past several years, but have never recorded the answers to those prayers. Thank you for sharing this idea and inspiration!

  235. Judy Rogers says:

I’m in! Trying to bring order to this hectic life I live. (Thank you Jesus for every minute of it!)

  236. Mary Amirault says:

I just bought a Proverbs 31 journal but I’d love to win one to give away. Thank you!

  237. I have never used a journal before but would love to start one. Thank you for sharing how to start one.

  238. I have started and stopped so many times over the years. I am committed this time……I will not stop. You have inspired me and I love the idea of highlighting! Praise God for His goodness!

  239. I pray throughout my day. Sometimes it is a brief prayer and other times it is more lengthy. My favorite way to pray though is face down on the floor. I do this alone, and it is the time when I truly feel a complete connection with my God. I am a single mother of three and I do not always have a lot of time alone. I have prayed like this before in the bathroom, on a towel before I take my shower. It doesn’t matter where I am or how long I have all that matters is that for that moment everything else goes away. During that time it is just my Creator and I speaking to each other.

  240. I’m in! Recently, I’ve been feeling that something is missing in my prayers. It seems like I’m just repeating the same prayers every day. I will definitely try the prayer journal!

  241. This is such a great idea! I’m in! ๐Ÿ™‚

  242. Lisa Hedaria says:

    I’m in!!!!!!!!!!!

  243. I have started prayer journals before but found it hard to keep track of answered prayers. I love the highlighting idea. I want to start anew and document God’s wonderful faithfulness through answered prayer!

  244. New to your blog today! I’m in!!

  245. Katie Rettig says:

Love it! My husband and I have been doing a prayer journal with our two daughters before bedtime. We try to do it most nights, but not necessarily every night. We started 1-1-13. As I was reading today I was thinking I need to go back through last year’s journal and highlight our answered prayers. Thanks for the reminder!

  246. Laura Justus says:

Thanks for your encouragement to start my prayer journal.

  247. THIS is an answer to my prayer! I’ve so often intended to begin a prayer journal to record how faithful GOD is to me, but my good intentions have not yet materialized….until now! What a wonderful reminder to me, and a powerful testimony to our Mighty God ! Thank you !

  248. Love the idea of going back and highlighting!. I do periodically go back and read. You certainly can tell my “spiritual disposition” when reading my journal…which is almost full…hinthint! We could use prayer for safe traveling and me, grace and kindness over enemies. My girls, one sister, mother, and I are traveling from Minden, LA to Athens, Georgia for a nephew’s wedding. One hour of 10 hour drive completed…and thank you again for prayers over us. We have almost made it to the end of the school year!

  249. Dena Sanchas says:

That is a great idea. I do journal my devotional time. But, I need to start highlighting. One day I hope to look back when I have grandkids and see the promises from God fulfilled!! What a treasure!! Thank you!

  250. I am a new reader, and today’s topic of being weary of praying the same prayer hit home for me. It is not prayer for my daughter, but for my son. He is 20 and has turned from all his family because of some bad influences in his life. I am grasping for anything that may bring me peace… and patience! I pray for him daily and started this week asking him everyday by text if there is anything I can pray about for him. So far, I’ve gotten no reply. It is my way of telling him I love him when the real words sound so empty because of all the hurt. I have written down conversations I would like to have with him, but I like the idea of writing my prayers, also. Thank you for your inspiring words, and I pray God answers both our prayers soon. God bless.

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

I pray He does too, friend! Keep loving your son! Unconditional love will break through, just keep being REAL!

  251. I need to start a prayer journal! My prayer life is more active these days, but how wonderful it would be to have it in written form where I can go back and see the reminders of how God has answered prayers in the past. I’m having a rough patch right now, and seeing answered prayers on paper would be a help.

  252. I love this idea. I read a Dr. Walter Wilson book and found that he would write his request on the left side and leave the right side blank to write in the answer. If you have never heard of him, google him and start reading. Wonderful example of a man.

  253. Highliting, what an awesome thing to do. I really need to organize my prayers. They are everywhere.

  254. Love this idea! Thanks!

  255. Mollie Walker says:

I love the idea of highlighting the prayers God has answered. What a faithful and mighty God we serve! Thank you!

  256. Cathy Huff says:

There are days when I don’t have the energy to pray or even know what to pray about! My life right now is so stressful. I know God is there for me even when I don’t think He is. I would love the idea of having a prayer journal. I think it would help me tremendously to keep my focus on the Lord and not what’s going on around me. I loved your post today Lynn, and pray you will consider me for your special offer.

  257. shannon kastl says:

    I’m in. Thanks!!!

  258. This is a great idea. I’m in! Thank you.

  259. Thanks so much for the wonderful info to help with a prayer journal. I was so glad to see the prayers for daughters and sons. Raising teenage sons myself I am learning to pray more and talk less:)!

  260. Dawn Russe says:

I’m in, I just love how you high light and write it all out. Gives me new ideas. Thank you so much for sharing.

  261. I tend to mix my prayers in with my other journaling, but I like the idea of separating them so it’s easier to find. PLUS the highlighting idea is great, as so many have said. Thanks for the motivation!

  262. Thank you for the wonderful reminder!

  263. What a good word today. God has absolutely perfect timing. Thanks for the great idea about setting up a prayer journal.

  264. nancys1128 says:

Since I don’t currently have a prayer journal to track things in, this would be a wonderful addition to just using my memory and hoping I cover all I need to. And since the highlighting of answered prayer is an awesome idea, having them written down will allow for that to happen. Seeing God at work is so critical!

  265. Amy Patton says:

    I’m in! ๐Ÿ™‚

  266. Sherri P. says:

We need to step up and really use the Power of Prayer. Journals are awesome and being able to look back and see his answers keeps us grounded in Him. Thanks for the thoughts! You are greatly appreciated.

  267. I’m in! This post was very relatable to me, as I had a similar experience of not being able to pray, but only to read God’s word to me, and that’s when I started a prayer journal. It was a huge encouragement to document my answered prayers, as well as those that are still waiting to be answered. This all happened after my miscarriage of our first baby, and my prayer journal served as healing for me.

  268. I’m in!!! Love this! You keep inspiring me in my daily prayer life. ๐Ÿ™‚

  269. I felt exactly like this Tuesday, but couldn’t put a name on it. But, the sickness and sadness from friends and loved ones just seemed so overwhelming. I was feeling very discouraged. I love the prayer journal idea. I have so many answered prayers but when I get that crushing, defeating feeling, I never seem to be able to remember specifics.

    Thank you for your post.

  270. Jacky Ousby says:

I have heard of prayer journal’s but never known what one really was and felt too ashamed to ask! Today you have given me insight and I hope to start my prayer journal and get really serious about praying – I need it, my family needs it, my friends need it, my workplace needs it, my church needs it. Please help me get started!

  271. Eboney Botts says:

I’m in. I don’t have a prayer journal, but this is a great idea for staying encouraged. Thanks for the push and motivation, I needed all of this – this morning

  272. Rita Maupin says:

I need this so much, I pray each morning when I awaken and many times during the day . However I don’t feel like The Lord is listening to my prayers. I do hope this journal will help.

  273. Thanks for your inspiration! I’ve started prayer journals many times before but I can’t seem to stay consistent. Unfortunately, that’s true in many areas of my life. Highlighting God’s answers to our prayers is brilliant! What a great motivator!

  274. I’ve been praying for a long time for my failing marriage. I’ve gotten kind of discourage because things don’t seem to be getting better. In fact my husband has emotionally walked out on our marriage. Then yesterday I noticed a lot of blood when I went to the bathroom. I’ve had a hysterectomy so that is not the problem. My family doctor is sending me to a Digestive Disease Specialist to get a Colonoscopy. I’m very scared and my husband is very distant and not really showing much concern and he isn’t here to comfort me. Prayer is the only thing keeping me going right now. Thank you for encouraging me to look back on God’s faithfulness because right now it is so hard to keep trusting and praying when it seems nothing is happening. I have never kept a prayer journal but I definitely think I need to start. Thank you and God Bless

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Chris, thank you so much for sharing your concern with us today. Can I pray for you?

Jesus, Healer, Jehovah Rophe. You made Chris and you created her body. I ask You, in Your Powerful name as you said if we will ask anything in Your name it shall be done. Reveal the source of this blood. Provide help and wisdom to know how she is to be healed. Give her faith and love and courage to keep pouring into her marriage even as her husband is not. Pour Your life and love into her heart, Jesus. Amen

  275. I haven’t been keeping a journal on my prayers, but do like the idea. I have been thinking of keeping a journal for my granddaughter with my daily prayers for her & bible verses for her in later years. She is not being raised in a Christian home at this time. We are trying to be the best influence in her life. I have been discouraged over how she is being raised that it sometimes is making me depressed. The thing that give me hope is listening to Christian music. Thanks for your daily posts.

  276. Thanks for such an inspiring idea. It is so true that we really need to remember all that God has done for us and continues to do. I have done an “I Spy God” journal for many years, but would love to start a prayer journal as well. My I Spy Journal is all the times in my life where I spy God, where I know it is a Godincidence and not a coincidence. So thank you, and count me in. Blessings!

  277. Nicci Ramirez says:

    โ€œIโ€™m in!โ€

  278. Having a prayer journal is something that I keep saying I need to do, but it always seems a bit overwhelming to me. I have a hard time putting down my thoughts on paper and it is very frustrating to me since I have a love for writing. Maybe having the beautiful journal you are giving away will give me the confidence to start one ๐Ÿ™‚

  279. Teresa Draper says:

I am on-line from a connection to todays Proverbs 31 Ministries. I saw the prayer journal and decided to enter because I need a new prayer journal. I’m so tired of praying the same prayer (not for my daughter this time) that I don’t even want to look at my current journals. A new prayer journal for a new me. I’m keeping them in my tiny Weekly Planner until I replace my current prayer journal and I would love to have one as nice as the one in today’s give away. The $0.10 to $1.00 option is my backup plan. One way or another, I’ll keep recording and praying and waiting in faith for the answer that God has for me, whatever it may be. Thanks you!

  280. Thanks for the Encouragement!! Faith and just believing that God is working it out even when I can’t see it brings me Peace but it can be challenging.

  281. Hi Lynn, I often heard of prayer journals from friends in my church who kept them but never kept one my self. I read Proverbs 31 almost every day as a daily devotion and the ones I love best I keep in a folder to go back to when I am especially needy. This one caught my eye because it has been a rough road for my family and I for the past 3 years. I have been praying a constant prayer to our Lord and I know He is tired from hearing me. But a prayer journal? I’ve never considered it. I figured my constant prayer and “talks” with Him…in the shower, gardening, driving, doing housework, (lol ) as well as quiet time, were more than sufficient. But maybe a prayer journal would be just the thing. So on this little dissertation I hope you’ll pass one on to me! Can you tell I talk the Lord’s ear off? LOL! :o)

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Janet, please be assured, God is definitely not tired of hearing from you! He created you TO hear from you. Every day, all day, in every place, in every way. Your voice is music to His hears and He wants for when you will speak to Him next. In fact, in the New Testament, Jesus tells the story of the guy who answers the front door because his neighbor is persistent. Constantly asking. Keep being “the neighbor”. He will hear and answer, friend!

  282. Hi Lynn,
i needed encouragement to keep praying and I am a writer…my journals are messy but lately blank. I wanted to thank you for giving me the courage to keep at it…I have been discouraged lately and words in thought or writing have just not been there but I know God is walking right beside me and so thank you for showing me a way to get back into it.

  283. Thank you for sharing with us, Lynn. It has been quite discouraging that my prayer for myself hasn’t been answered and I’ve been praying for a long time now. I have become weary praying the same prayer. Thank you for your encouragement!

  284. Thank you so much for this devotional. I definitely need to start a prayer journal. I’m in. Thank you very much ๐Ÿ™‚

  285. I’m in! I would love to win this!

  286. I am in! I really need to be more intentional about my prayer life. Thank you!

  287. Elizabeth I says:

    Hello,
God is amazing. I am praying for one of my daughter’s now and as I read, “tired of praying for your daughter” I knew it was from the Lord. My daughter strayed some time ago, she is in her twenties now. She graduated from college last may and has not found a job yet. Her major is Art History and History. She has an interview this morning and I have been praying and praying that the Lord would open up a door for her in a museum, that is her ultimate desire to work in a museum as a curator. Small steps. But I am asking the Lord to reveal Himself to her, that she would know that the Lord has always been her Father as she does not have a biological father on this earth. He has always provided and taken care of her and us. We even prayed together for a job, first time in many years she allowed me to do this. Regarding the journal, something that the Lord has prompted me to do but it always seemed so overwhelming to me. I like your idea of highlighting once answered-the Lord has answered my prayers, many, many times. I will try your idea. Thank you-

  288. Lori Hardy says:

What a great tool for prayer! I have started journals in the past, but have not made it a daily habit. Thank you for your encouraging post!

  289. Venus Ann says:

I’m in! I love the highlighting idea!!! Thanks!!!

  290. Wanting a more organized prayer life! Thank you for showing how easy it is. No daughters here but a husband and five sons. It takes prayer for guys too. The beginning of this year has been heavy with an unexpected pregnancy (at age 41!) and now losing it at 12 weeks. Trying to find myself and God in it all. Thank you.

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

      Marie,

I am so very sorry to hear of all the pain you have been through. A pregnancy, a life, you were first surprised by and now will not see this side of heaven. I pray that you will sense God’s presence with you in a very tangible way as you grief the loss of your little one.

Guys definitely need our prayers too, Marie! That is why I have pages for my husband and son.

  291. Thank you for sharing! I’ve been wanting to start a prayer/answered prayers journal for awhile. Sometimes all I need is a way. Writing down my needs then y highlighting answered prayer is such a powerful faith booster. Plus it shows me God is faithful to his promises & his word & then I have proof of God’s answered prayers to remind satan that God is forever faithful to me & God hears me when I call on his name & have true relationship with The King of Kings, Lord of All, My Creator, … I would consider this journal a wonderful addition to my home!

  292. Tammy Donascimento says:

Such a great idea. I am gonna start journaling. I am struggling at this time in my life with prayer. Are my prayers being heard? What do I pray for? Are my prayers always the same thing? Please pray for me as I struggle with this issue and with the Grace of God I will have victory in Jesus!

  293. Your devotion for today was just what I needed. I have prayers written in various notebooks but having one dedicated for prayers and highlighting those answered would be an encouragement on days when it’s hard to hear God’s voice. Thank you for your ministry.

  294. Melissa Terry says:

I’m in. You have given me something to think about. I am most definitely going to start a prayer journal.

  295. Tracy Law says:

I love to pray through out the day to God. I have not found any easy way to write out my prayers and how to find the request when answered or if it got answered. I journal and when I have something heavy in prayer I put a sticky tag. Also I love this easy way to set up. I end up having several notebooks going for verses, journaling. And with my fibro fog and medication fog I been very discouraged about my life. But I won’t give up I will continue to persevere with Christ Jesus leading me and one day leading my husband. Also bring one daughter and her family back to Christ and my stepdaughter and her family to Christ and God continue blessing our youngest girl and her family starting a new ministry starting this Sept. Bless you for your ministry.

  296. This is just what I needed right now! In the midst of a huge struggle, it will be encouraging to see answered prayer.

  297. I’m in! (And thanks for the example of your prayer journal…..I need to get back to doing one, but haven’t been able to figure out how to make it work. Now I’ve got a jumping-off place to start!)

  298. Renee Gorman says:

An excellent idea – writing things down to keep track of them! I’m in!

  299. I would totally love this! I write in a spiral. Sometimes over the top of my kids scribbles if I run out and grab an old one before I get to the store for a new one.

  300. I’m in! Thank you for this post! I am going to buy a pink highlighter. I have two daughters and I used to use a prayer journal. It has been about 3 months since I have written in my journal . But today I have been encouraged to go back through and read my past entries, and see and know that God is faithful. I have also been looking for some help on teaching and speaking to my girls about God and reading his word. I look forward to reading and being inspired, and encouraged, Thank You!
    Amie

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Welcome Amie! I’ll look forward to hearing from you in our talks on raising wiser daughters in the future!

  301. Lisa Aleshire says:

I love that you highlight your answered prayers.

I have a prayer journal that was given to me by my girlfriend. In the back there is an extra flap to keep all the papers. I keep my 10 Most Powerful Prayers for Women and my prayers for my sons in there.

It is so wonderful to wake up and spend time with the Lord in prayer!!

Thank you for your devotional———-I’m In

    Sister in Christ,
    Lisa

  302. Lynn, thanks for showing the inside of your prayer journal. I’ve never figured out how I’d want to set one up, and this helps. I really like the highlighting idea.

  303. shalini Hamilton says:

    I m in!! God bless

  304. danella lewandowski says:

I really needed this today. It was an answered prayer for me. I have a nice journal, I just don’t do anything with it. I think I need to start, so I will stop dwelling on what is not right and focus on what has been done. Thank you.

  305. What a great idea. I’ve thought of doing this over the years but I’m always afraid someone will find it and read my personal thoughts. I would love to start one so that I can keep up with all of them.

  306. Shalom and God Bless you Lynn…I stumbled upon your site (I’d say by accident but with God there are no accidents) I have in the passed kept a prayer journal but not in a few years now…you have inspired me to once again take up my pen and notebook. Thank you Father for leading me here. (((hugs))) from a sister in the Lord.

  307. This is such a perfectly timed devotional. My word this year is “pray” and I am like so many others – eager to focus more intently on all the wonderful that God through prayer has brought to my life.

  308. Hello Lynn! I was referred too this website by a friend! I always look for ideas when it comes to praying and asking god for what I need and also praying for others. I am 20 years of age and I am trying to find my way in life everyday. I pray all the time and ask god for the protection over my mind! I pray that god gives me the strength too abide by his word. I pray for patience. I pray for my salvation. I pray for wisdom. And I pray for that spiritual guidance. My soul is hungry for JESUS my soul cries out for Jesus! He’s my only source. I would love too have this prayer book. Even if I am not chosen too win I will but one. I know this prayer book can work because when I read your bio I felt the Holy Ghost moving in me! I love you and thanks for giving us this great opportunity!

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Dontae, I love to hear you are a praying young woman. Rest assured, if you prayed once to ask Jesus to forgive you for your sin and to give you His new life and salvation…He has! You can invest your time now praying and believing for the new ways God will pour His life through you!!

  309. Ugh – I wish I had the “pretty” answers I’m seeing from everyone else, but truth be told, I’m struggling with hearing from God. Lately, I feel like Hanhah. I started a prayer/thankful journal last year. Life got in the way but as I write this, I know what I have to do.

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Maya – that’s why I write – for us “not so pretty” people. Thank you for your “realness”. Your comment blessed me!

  310. I’m in
Also I have a deep need to begin this prayer journal as I search for my place with God. I have often turned to him but find I stray (not in a bad way) and become very lazy with my prayer and devotion to him. My family suffers as does my husband whom I do not lift up as much as I need to. I have bookmarked this blog so that I can come back into it and find some guidance.

  311. I’ve always intended to keep a prayer journal but have not done so; you inspired me to do so. I’m glad I read your blog post today as it’s been one of those very difficult days and the title of your post squarely hit me. And now I am encouraged to start that prayer journal and highlight the answered prayers when they come — and one came just as I read your post! Thank you for your perseverance and your encouragement to the rest of us to do so!

  312. Thank you for blessing us with such a sweet, open post that reflects so many of the feelings we have in our own hearts. I also love how you shared the way we can set up our own prayer journal. So often I scratch mine on some random piece of paper or more often, just pray them. What a gift to be able to look back and see God’s faithfulness on paper. Can’t wait to get started!

  313. Anne Smith says:

AMAZING post! thank you for writing this post. Look forward to getting started!

  314. Eunice Rodriguez says:

I recieved Proverbs 31 from a friend of mine today who noticed that I was out of sorts. I have been praying alot these days for my daughter and our family. I had never heard of a prayer journal until today. It looks like a great thing to do. I do pray quite a bit however, never thought about putting them down on paper. This has encouraged me to start doing that and turn more to my faith. Thank you for posting the steps on how to start a prayer journal. I think this will help me very much. Thank you.

  315. Cindy Shelby says:

    I’m in! Thanks!

  316. This is such a timely Devotion for today! I’ve been wanting to start a prayer journal, but didn’t know exactly the best way to do it. I’m so unorganized. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thank you for the suggestions. I love the Encouragement for Today devotions that I get in my email. Thank you for contributing.

  317. Cindy Smith says:

I’m a notebook kinda girl so I’m definitely in! Thanks for your beautiful words!

  318. I love how you highlight your prayers that have been answered! I had never thought to do that! Thank you for sharing!

  319. Love this! I had a prayer journal a few years ago and I did one with the kids a couple of years ago also, but I have gotten away from it and I know I should get back into the habit of writing them down. I love, love, love your pink highlights as you have heard God’s response. Thanks so much for your encouraging words! While I would love to win one of the pretty ones, I’m off to find one to use now. If I win, maybe that one will go to a friend!

  320. Thank you for encouraging everyone to keep a prayer journal. I started one after my husband died then fell away from it for a while. I started again two years ago and type in it nearly every day. I type much faster than I can write, so I prefer to type my journal. I use this time each morning to sit quietly before the Lord and write down the words that come to me. This has been a tremendous blessing and I wouldn’t miss this daily time with Him for anything. I have also started an online prayer journal website for anyone who likes to type their prayers. You can keep your journal private, or start an additional journal that can be public for anyone to read. You’ll find it at http://www.MyOnlinePrayerJournal.com if you would like to look. The site is not yet completely finished, but is ready for members. I blog there on occasion as well. May all who start or resume their prayer journals may the Lord richly bless you!

I keep a journal of Bible verses, encouraging reminders and inspiration. I never thought to list prayer requests, date them and then highlight them with the date when they have been answered. I plan to do this going forward. I definitely need this as a reminder when I get discouraged, have challenging days and wonder when God will answer some prayers that I have been praying for a long time and haven’t received an answer besides ‘wait’ which is a difficult one to receive. I would love to receive the prayer journal you are offering to help keep me organized and it looks beautiful.
    Thank you.

  343. Dee Farley says:

I just returned to journaling after I came across my prayer journal from raising my children. Some of the pages had tear stains on them and many pages recorded God’s faithfulness and answered prayers. They are grown now and I have two grandchildren to pray about and yes I admit there are some tear stained pages. It is encouraging to look back and see that yes, this too shall pass. I see many times how God made a way where there seemed to be no way and that sometimes the answer was not what I was praying but was the better way. I encourage everyone to write your story and see the faithfulness of God.

  344. I have tried using a journal for my prayers in the past and it always felt complicated. What you have outlined here seems very simple and easy to use. I will give this a try. Thank you for the encouragement in persisting in prayer.

Thank You for helping me to see how God is at work with the bigger picture locally and for all of Gods People around the beautiful created world. Blessings for you and yours!

  347. Jacqueline McDougald says:

Thank you for helping me to understand the meaning of a journal, and being closer to God while understanding the meaning of prayer.
For so many years I have prayed and put all of my faith in God and he always come through for me.But this particular story seems to touch homeand is exactly what I’m going tthrough right nowI never doubt that he always answer my prayers, I never looked at it as writing it down and thanking him for all he has done for me. Thank you so much for this encouragement today and this is something that I needed in order pray for everything and everyone. Thank You proverbs 31 for always encourage me to be a better person and to be a better leader. I just received this in an e-mail and I am encouraged to journal as I used to do in the past. I would love to win a prayer journal with encouraging scriptures. I need to also sign up for the emails.

  350. Hi Lynn! I love to journal my quiet time with God! And have been doing so for quite some time! I journal all in one…my praise and thanksgiving, my prayer requests, my thanks for answered prayers, Scripture verses or passages, whispers I feel the Lord speaking to me through His Word or other ways….I often go back through my journals trying to find entries that are meaningful for a new day! I spent a short time with Tara Furman’s Intimacy with God Prayer journal, but fell back on my traditional journaling! I would love to try again to have a special journal for prayer. Hope to win, but if not, it is now on my wish list as well as taking another look at Tara’s prayer journal…. thanks Lynn!

  351. I’m in!!! Looking forward to trying your system in my own prayer journal. Thank you for the suggestion.

  352. I’m in! Thank you for this post!

  353. I truly love how you are highlighting your answered prayers. It is so easy to think of what we want in the moment and forget about how God has already taken care of us. His many blessings are profoundly recorded with lots of pink on the pages of your journal. It is inspiring. Thanks Lynn!

  377. beautiful!!! Good place to start

  378. Thank you so much for this post. I’ve tried numerous times to keep a prayer journal using different methods but found myself soon bogged down with the “rules”. Your example is so easy and straight-forward that I feel encouraged that I can do this. I love the way you highlight the answered prayer to make them stand out and give easy reminders of God’s faithfulness. I am in!

  379. Sarah Beverly says:

    I. Have a 3 ring binder that I have pages for each of the people I pray for and attach photos of them. It’s really powerful to look in their eyes while praying for them.

  380. Thank you for allowing others to share in your experiences by opening a page of your prayer journal. I am a new Christian and I am not quite sure I understand but am hoping to follow your example. The highlighting is a great way to show our relationships growing with God.

    Thank you.
    Blessings,

  381. Lynn…thank you for posting about your Prayer Journal. I have not been successful at prayer journals but was excited to set up a spiral notebook similar to your example. It is so easy to list things by day/week and the pages are large enough to record scripture for that request or for memorization and everything is in one place. I started a journal this past weekend and already have answers highlighted in blue. God is good!

    Thank you again…

  382. Excellent idea.
    Please count me in.
Also I realised the hard way, of course, that to just listen conveys a greater message than having to always have something to say.

    God Bless

  383. Can I simply say what a relief to find somebody who really knows what they are talking about over the internet.

You definitely know how to bring an issue to
light and make it important. More and more people have to read
this and understand this side of the story. I was surprised
you are not more popular given that you surely
    have the gift.
