A girl’s confidence is at its peak at the age of 9.

That’s what research tells us.

Nine years old.

When she is teetering on all that change … right around the corner. With all the world before her …

If a girl’s confidence peaks at age 9 … that doesn’t make the future look all that bright!

Let’s change that!

“Brave Beauty: Finding the Fearless You” is written especially for girls between the ages 8 – 12. It’s not just a book — it’s a companion guide on a girl’s journey to learning to become courageous, confident and fearless.

Now is the time to help her to build a confidence in Christ that stands firm for the days to come.

Brave Beauty helps tween girls to:

  • Gain confidence by accepting her unique qualities and understand how they can work for her, not against her.
  • Discover who God says she is, in His eyes, and how He can help her.
  • Discuss the tough stuff she’s going through as she changes physically, emotionally, relationally and spiritually.
  • Learn how God’s words can help her become brave and beautiful.

I’m sharing this free I Am Brave printable to help you and your child to remember who God says you are and be brave!  It’s easy to receive! Just fill in here:

My husband and I have four daughters(6, 8, 9, and 11). Our desire for them is to be the women God wants them to be. They will not be if they are expected to conform to this world. We want them to know that they have resources outside of us and their church family that are an encouragement to that end. I believe that Brave Beauty will provide that. Of course we will need to purchase four copies! 🙂

  21. Billie Moore says:

My granddaughter, Jadeigh, is going into the 7th grade. She recently placed her faith in Jesus, while at church camp. At her home, no one walks with Christ. Since she loves to read, I know this would help her.

  22. Geralyn Miller says:

I have a granddaughter who is half black and half white. My oldest daughter & my son-in-law got guardianship of her when she was almost one year old & has raised her as one of their own ever since. Aliveia lives with a bunch of blonde blue-eyed people and she has a complex. She wants to be white with blonde hair and blue eyes so she can be beautiful! Of course, Aliveia IS absolutely beautiful, but she doesn’t know it. So Aliveia is the beautiful young lady that I would like to give your book to. Thanks for all you do and may our God bless you richly!

    1. This does sound like something Aliveia could use. Hopefully her parents are sharing positive images of her heritage and trying to involve her in her background culture. Prayers be with all and Aliveia in this quest.

  23. Kimberley Wilson says:

I would love to give this to my daughter. She is a wonderful and confident girl, but I worry as she grows she will lose that spark. I struggled with an eating disorder and depression as a teen and would do anything to keep her from experiencing those hardships but often at a lose on how to keep that from happening to her. Hope this book can help us both and of course a lot of prayer!!

My 10 year old daughter. She has struggled with her confidence all her life and I don’t want her to end up like the huge mess I am not even knowing who I am anymore. I wish I had a book like this growing up and maybe I wouldn’t be playing catch up in my life.

  31. Wendy Henderson says:

I would love to include a copy of this book in my public elementary school’s library collection. As a librarian in a small rural community, I struggle to find age appropriate resources such as this for my girls, many from single parent low, income homes. Thank you for your consideration!

  32. I have 3 daughters that I would love to share this with. My two older daughters are 9 and 12 so this would be perfect for them now and then my youngest in a couple years.

  33. I would love to give this to my 8 year old granddaughter. She has such a tender heart and loves Jesus. She is very sensitive to others, especially if she sees a need, whether it be a child or adult. I have seen her overcome with concern over an autistic child needing his mother and I’ve also witnessed her heartfelt love and a desire to comfort me as she was getting ready to return home, 16 hours away from me, after family vacation. My prayer is that she will learn how to channel this sensitivity as she gets older and not be easily swayed in the wrong direction simply because she cares. I think this book would be a fantastic tool!

  34. My sweet almost 9 yr old daughter. I would love to equip her to withstand all the world is going to throw at her as she grows and changes.

  35. Jill Grazioso says:

  36. My daughter who is 11. I have always struggled with a fear of people and with who I really am and I don’t want her to go through the same.

  37. I have a 7 year old who struggles with trying to be friends with a girl who is toxic. This will be good for both of us!

  38. My beautiful 7 year old already struggles with peer pressure and trying hard to fit in. This will be wonderful for us!

  39. My 10 year old daughter and I would work through this!

  40. Silvana Jackson says:

My daughter who is 11 would enjoy this book. I have always struggled with self-worth and worrying too much about what others think. I don’t want my baby to struggle and go through the same thing. I want her to be courageous and step out in faith, just as God created her to be!

  41. Regina Forshee-Bedke says:

I would share it with my daughter and granddaughter who just turned 8 last month. My son-in-law just lost his job and my daughter is a full time student getting her PA degree so things are a little insecure at their house. 44. I would love a copy for my granddaughter Grace or for our Celebration Place kids program at church for kids who are in either dysfunctional, addicted families, being bullied…..

  45. My 8 year old daughter! I want to do all I can to show her Jesus doesn’t want her to struggle the way I did and that God loves her and made her perfect tiny self just the way He wanted it…and that is glorious.

  46. This would be a great book for my son’s girlfriend and her 9 year old daughter. It would be a way to keep their relationship bonded.

  47. I will use this book as a bedtime devotional/conversation starter with my 9-year-old daughter. It will be perfect for us!

  48. We just moved to a new town and my 9 year old daughter will be starting a new school in just a few weeks. She already has some anxiety issues and I worry that jumping into 4th grade at the middle school will be hard for her. I love the idea of teaching young girls to be brave! I’d love to win a copy of the book to share with her and to read together each night.

  51. Cassie Laffan says:

I will share this book with my 10 year old Jillian. Her older sister and I have read Magnetic together and I can’t wait to get this book too! Thankful for your sweet and oh so important ministry!!

  54. What an amazing blessing this book can be to so many young girls, and their mothers! I’d love this book for my daughter, as she is just entering the ‘tween’ stage and we have already noticed a lot of changes, changes as parents we’re trying to embrace, and not discourage her, but help her to be the young woman the Lord designed for her to be.

  55. This book is exactly what I have been looking for. My husband and I are raising through foster care two aboriginal girls who are sisters. Their struggles are many just because of what life has brought them. Thanks for writing this book to give as a tool to us parents, who so desperately want to help our daughters.

  56. Becky Bliek says:

I want to give this book to my daughter, Mya. She is adopted, and struggles with accepting herself and her story.

  57. Beth Bennett says:

I have 3 daughters! I would love to begin by giving this to my oldest daughter, Haylee, who is 10 years old and already struggles with confidence. It could then be passed down to her younger sisters when they reach the appropriate age. One of my greatest desires for them is that they would be confident in who God made them & not be swayed by what the world may think.

  58. Elizabeth says:

This sounds like the perfect book for my 10-year old daughter, Madelyn. We are about to move to a new state, so she will be starting a brand new school, church, everything! I pray she will be brave and confident throughout all of the upcoming changes.

  59. Shae Jordan says:

I think this would be great for my 10, turning 11 tomorrow daughter Zoe. Then, passing out down to her 2 younger sisters. I pray often for them to be “confident” in God so that they will gracefully withstand this world. Of course, I would want for them not to experience some of the things that may cause their self-confidence to waver but we all know that’s not likely. So now I just pray that they’ll be confident enough in God that they will get through it confidently with Him.

  60. Love to have this for my sweet, free spirited first born!

  63. My daughter is 12 and came home yesterday from a youth group camping trip. As she shared about the weekend, she broke down in tears because God had worked in her heart! Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to write this book. I would love to read this with my daughter, Victoria. She will be 10 in Decenber. Honestly, her self confidence and self love is non-existent. She lives in a very unhealthy environment half of the time, I have been trying to impress upon her how wonderfully made she is. Any help would be fantastic. She has her mom who believes in free-range parenting and then she has her dad who’s not quite sure how to raise girls and then she has my parents and each of them are raising them differently. I try to interject whenever I can and just love on them. She really could use a book like this. She loves to read and I know this would change her life immensely.

  72. I would share this literature with my nine year old niece. She just turned nine and has experienced bullying and teasing from close peers. She has also constantly experienced challenges with fitting in, being herself and speaking up when necessary. This book may help motivate her to better appreciate who she is. Additionally, when she finishes reading this book, she could pass on to my three daughters. My oldest is seven and will be nine in two years. Thanks for the opportunity to be part of this drawing.

  73. I would give this book to my little neighbor that just turned 9. I would have my 14 year old read it 🙂 my neighbors dint go to church so it would a good way to share Jesus with them. Thanks

  76. I would love to share this with my daughter, Angee. She is 9 and i already see a lack of confidence in her. I pray constantly that God will give me the wisdom to help build her confidence. She wants so hard to fit in and I’m afraid her faith isn’t strong enough for some of the trials she’ll soon face. Thank you!

  82. I would get this for all of my girls! I have 2 bio daughter 8 & 6, and 2 foster daughters that are going to be adopted by the end of the year, ages 3 & 2. They also have a sister on the way that may come into our care. I would LOVE any help to teach them all to live confidently and boldly for Christ!

  83. Brandi S. says:

I’ll share it with my 11 year old heading into Jr High she needs all the reminders she can get.

  85. I would love to share this with my 10 year old daughter whose dad died a little under 3 months ago unexpectedly. She has been increasingly insecure and filled with fears since this happened. We actually sang “Brave” by Nicole Nordman this past year and I frequently tell her to be brave over these rough 3 months. I so desire for my daughter to be strong in who she is as a child of God.

  97. I have 3 girls that I would love to start sharing this with!! They started their school career in a private Christian school and for the first year this year will be going to public school. Through it all she smiles big and is full of joy.

I will save it for my baby that is due in October.

I would love to share this with my daughter, Gillian!!

  108. Amanda Melton says:

I would be sharing this with my daughter, Maddie! She is 11 years young and is starting middle school this year!! I remember how tough the transition to middle school was and I know from experience, (I have 5 younger sisters, several nieces and a 14 yr old daughter) that middle school is when children are more subject to try and impress their peers. It’s when girls start coming into their own and now days, it’s when children start to pick on and bully others about looks, clothing and even each others actions. My Maddie is a bright light! She is growing into a wonderful young lady and is active in several church programs and studies! I pray that she is able to stand firm on her feet and be confident in the ways of the Lord and His word even when others tease and try to pressure her into changing her mind! … Thank you for the devotion and for bringing this message to the young ladies of our world!

  109. Elizabeth Saunders says:

I would share this book with my oldest daughter Harlie Ann. She will be 8yrs old in March. She is the oldest to two other sister (1 and 2 yr old). I am a new single mom who has been cheated on by my husband (the girls dad) since Harlie was 18 months old. Her dad would leave for a couple of months and then come back claiming salvation and wanting his family all to just leave again within a year or two. She has seen way to much for her 8 yrs but she is the reason I keep going. My prayer every night is that she knows she is loved by me but more importantly by God. I do want her to seek God in all things not guys because she has been shown what a man is not supposed to do. I can only imagine what is going on in her heart and mind seeing her daddy lie to us and leave all the time. I am finally breaking the cycle this time because I finally see the picture for what it truly is. Me and my girls deserve better and we are putting our faith in God to be the provider and the father to the fatherless.

  110. I would share this book with Sophia.

  111. Thank you for committing yourself to writing for this age group of girls. I feel that time of a girls life is very crucial in preparing for teenage years & even adulthood. That is the time that we, parents, need to be arming them with a solid (God & religious based) foundation to help them through the years ahead. I look forward to getting this book for my 8 year old daughter. ?

  112. Sarah Jones says:

I would love to share with my daughter Cheyenne. She will be turning 12 on August 25th. We really struggle a lot of the time because it’s well so and so don’t have to why do I and they have that why can’t I have the same thing. I love her so much and she has so much potential but due to classmates and this world she doesn’t think she is pretty enough, doesn’t have the right clothes and accessories. When I was her age I struggled with some of the same things but not as strongly as she does and I had support from the right people and a strong youth group that helped. We are trying to find that for her. I would love for her to have this book to help her.

  113. I want to share this book with my precious daughter, Eliza. Once a confident, unique, discerning girl, our recent divorce and abuse from her dad has caused her to doubt, fear and worry whose she is. Her trust in God has deepened yet she’s fearful walking that out in the face of others.
I would covet this book as a tool to help her walk with confidence! I pray for her testimony to be filled with Gods handprint and boldness!

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Lord, we pray for Sarah’s daughter. Restore what she has lost through pain and grief. Abba Father, fill the gap that has opened through her earthly father’s abuse. Do what only you can do, Lord. Amen

I would love to share this book with my beautiful unique daughter Taylor, she is 12 yrs old, and a true blessing to all she meets. Things have been getting tough on her in the last couple years though and I worry she is losing that special twinkle she has always had in her eye. My oldest daughter who is now in her 20’s, raised in our Christian home, loved church, her church friends, serving..etc..graduated HS in ’14 and moved back east wehere our extend family is (we are a military family, my husband has been serving in the AF 17 yr..still active duty. After my oldest left she something changed…and she is now going through the process of transgendering?? As any Christian mom, dad…friend or family member can imagine has been very difficult on all of us…and it’s really very confusing on my two younger children. I also have a 10yr old boy. My kids go to secular schools and are known as the Christian kids, we live in Las Vegas. They have so many things coming at them in so many directions I am amazed at the their strength and faith?❤️? Anything their father and I can do to keep assuring them and encouraging in their walk with the Lord we want to do! They have shared their faith to so many young people…I just pray they hold on to it and not let all the trials we are facing overwhelm them. My oldest is even still holding on for dear life to Her father in Heaven..she just doesn’t understand why all these different feelings she has had most of her life. Thank you for letting me share…???

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Melonie, you are a very brave mom. When our kids go through these seasons when they are confused, some much stronger than others, it is so hard on us. At times we can wonder what we did wrong or wonder why God doesn’t just break the confusion. I don’t have the answers, but I do know He is faithful to His word and I am one mom standing on it. I can see you are another.

Father, You alone hold up the Schang family. I ask You to make Your presence clear to them EACH DAY. Give them the power to cling to You and stand for you. We break confusion over their eldest daughter. Clear away the fog that is clouding her mind and help her find her freedom in You. You alone are the salvation and hope for our families, Jesus. Amen

  123. Tracy Duyck says:

I would share it with my niece and daughter. What a great resource for girls to use in gaining confidence in who God made them to be in a world that teaches otherwise.

  124. Lynn,

This post spoke to me on so many levels. Thank you. I just preordered a copy for oyr 8 year old.

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Thank you so much for investing in your girl, Tara! I hope it will be an answer to my prayers in your girl’s life … that she will build her self-worth on God’s unconditional love!

  125. Amanda Soirez says:

I would share this with my niece. She is very special and has an amazing servants heart. I want her to keep that and not worry about others opinions. This could be a great guide for her.

  126. JA Slaton says:

I would love to give a copy to my beautiful 11 and 13 year old granddaughters. I feel this would help them prepare for the years ahead and their walk with Christ.

  127. For my 8-year-old daughter Isabella

  128. Melissa Visser says:

I have 2 daughters this age that I would love to share this book with! I want for them to have confidence in themselvs much earlier than I did. (Actually, its still a work in progress for me). Thank you for writing this book with such an important message for girls!

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

It’s a work for all of us, Melissa! (That’s why I wrote a book for us women on confidence that comes out in November. Stayed tuned! 🙂

  131. Shari Kozlowski says:

I still share this with 11 year old daughter Samantha who needs this desperately. 5Th grade was sooo tough for her. She needs to be saturated with understanding God’s love for her beautiful self.

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Shari, I think 5th and 6th grade are really hard years. So much change, with kids experiencing these changes at different times. I am so glad your girl has you!

  132. Sharayah Arnold says:

I have two daughters, 11 and 9. I would absolutely LOVE to share this book with them!! Thank you for the opportunity to win!

My daughter Isabelle is 11. This would be great for her! I like that there are age appropriate resources for speaking God’s Word into our daughters lives. Wonderful and so appreciated.

I’m so excited that I have had the opportunity to write one, Catrina!

  134. Christy Baylor says:

For my best friend’s 9 year old daughter, who is like a niece to me and has had to be crazy brave this year.

  135. Vernét Farmer says:

I would love to share this book with my 12 year old daughter Kennedy who is going into the 7th grade. i think this book would be a perfect read for her as she continues to tackle middle school. Lots of changes going on in her body & mind at this time, and let’s not even bring up social media and what messages it’s sending our girls! Lord Jesus help us to help them! ??????

  136. I would love to have a copy of this book for my 11 year old special needs granddaughter Ashlei. Her Dad chooses to spend only 48 hrs a month with her and then most of that time is devoted to her 12 yr old brother. Though she has cognitive deficits, she is very much aware and “feels” the rejection from her Dad. Mom reinforces the love of our Heavenly Father but this sounds like a wonderful, helpful book.

  137. Monica Compagnari says:

I would love to give this to my 11 year old daughter. She already struggles with being her true self when she is at school.

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

It starts early doesn’t it, Monica? Lord, give Monica’s girl bravery and help her to establish her true self – her worth, on You from the start. Amen

  138. I’d like to share this with my 9 year old daughter

  139. Tina Wright says:

I have two girls 8 1/2 and almost 11. I long to give them the confidence and faith that I lost in turbulent pre-teen years. This book looks amazing and a great starting point for them to build on together and as individuals.

  140. i have a 12 year old and soon to be 7 year old girl. this would be a great book to have at our house. Thanks!

  141. This is perfect for my daughter Anna!

  142. I would like to give this to my daughter emma who just turned 13.

  143. I would love to share this with my soon to be 12 year old. It’s such a tender age and I’m thankful that there are “helps” such as this book, available during this season of parenting.

  144. Sharon Easterling says:

I would share it with my two oldest nieces to start with. One is going to be eleven and the other is nine and a half.

  145. My best friend works for a local nonprofit, “Urban Mountain Adventires”. She is a local missionary mentoring girls of all ages, that live in the inner city, have very little, but have a thirst for God. I would share this book with her so that she can continue to speak Truth into these girls.

  146. Thanks for giving us this opportunity to wish.i would share this with my neice with my friends toddler and with the children I teach.

  147. Amy Moore says:

My daughter has just started seeing a counselor for her fears & anxieties. I am not sure where these extreme fears have come from. She has not always been this way. You words on their confidence peeking at 9 have made me think a lot. She will be 12 next month. This book looks like a perfect book to work through with her. I am trying to encourage her to turn to scripture for strength & encouragement, but what works for me doesn’t always work for her.

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Congratulations Amy! You are the winner of Brave Beauty! Please send your full name and address to [email protected] and we’ll send it out as soon as we receive our copies!

  148. Stacia Foote says:

These books would be great resources for my new Mentoring project that involves 10 tweens that kicks off next month!!
