I really want to, but I’m too scared.

Like me, when you have heard your child voice these words, have you had that sinking feeling?

For a moment, you’re thrown back to your own growing up days; to all of the things you wanted to do, but never did … because of fear.

Never tried out for that play.

Never took up that instrument.

Never ran for class president or even hopped on a pair of skis. (So there’s my list and those are just the things when I was young!)

Fear.

It carries so much power when it comes to keeping us from going for all things new … and scary. And even though we know God is with us, why are there times when we still feel scared?  Our mind tells us we can’t do it before we even try.

What if we found the power within us, God’s power, to go for His goodness for us … even when we are scared?

That’s why I wrote today’s FREE resource: I Will Be Brave Declaration. When we speak truth to our minds and hearts, we can literally change the way that our minds think. We can change our paths from “I can’t” to “I Can”.

When I feel small or overlooked, I will remind myself that God can us anyone to do big things!

  1. God’s timing is surely interesting!

There are two things on my heart to do, and just yesterday, I felt convicted that I must try even if not successful to do them both. The first is to get my culinary nutrition certification. There is a course, it’s on-line, and at close to $3000.00, well beyond my ability to pay on disability income. But God has the cattle on a thousand hills, the wealth in every mine…he can sell a cow or mine some ore!

The second thing I feel convicted to do is to get the training needed to become a chaplain. I’m 61 years old! Though I got my bachelors in business in my 40’s, well, it’s been over 20 years since I was a college student, and now to attempt to go back to school…and the money for that too? Well, God’s got that covered also.

I don’t know how or when, but I do feel called to try. Thanks for the encouragement. God Bless!

How wonderful! I love your bravery!

I’ve been looking for something like this to do with my 8 year old daughter. I need this just as much for myself as fit her

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

I’m so glad, Cari! I’m going to be 50 this summer and my bravery was built as I wrote it so I think your’s will be as you read it with your girl!

  3. I love this!! I learned about Being Brave from my daughter as well. During her journey with anxiety and depression, we talked about what it means to be brave and rely on Jesus daily. I wish we had this Declaration then. Now I do retreats on being brave and my devotional book Being Brave: A 40 Day Journey to the Life God Dreams For You comes out from Abingdon Press in December. I will pass this declaration along to the women who have gone through my retreats! Thank you for your wise words and I can’t wait to read your book!

I love how you have taken the hard place you went through (and maybe are going through) and turned it into a place of victory. Your book will be great!

I have a Bible study for women on a similar topic (Make Your Move: Finding Confidence Despite Your Fears and Failures) coming out in November. I love when God calls us to write on similar topics. He is trying to get something across for sure!

  4. I love this! I so need it for me and for my 14 year old daughter! She is so reluctant to try new things. She is just like me at that age! It frustrates me because I don’t want her to be like me! 🙂

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

So glad that this will be helpful, Karen!

  5. I teach First Grade at a small Christian school and would love to use this during our devotion time.

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

I think it would be perfect for that, Renee!

  6. Linda Neely says:

Though my grand-daughter isn’t even two-years old yet, I plan to get this book to give her when she’s older. What a wonderful message for our young girls.

  7. Hi my name is Valerie

It’s so amazing that i was supposed to read your Proverbs 31 devotional yesterday but never found the time, and yet today as i sit here preparing for a presentation, a ball of nerves, i decide to read it today, and found it so relevant. I am 34 years old and still am so fearful, nervous and feel less than often. And sadly i have passed much of this onto my 9 year old daughter. I am so excited about your book and cant wait for it to be on the shelves. God bless
