LET. IT. GO. How to Stop Running the Show & Start Walking in Faith

By Karen Ehman

Foreword by Candace Cameron Bure

Women are wired to control. We make sure the house is clean, the meals prepared, the children are dressed, and everyone gets to where they’re going on time. But sometimes our strength of being conscientious can morph into the weakness of being a slight—or all out—control freak! This humorous, yet spiritually practical book will help you to:

  • Take control of your schedule yet welcome interruptions from God
  • Draw the line between mothering and micromanaging
  • Influence your husband instead of manipulating him
  • Learn to control your emotions when you can’t control the circumstances
  • Stop pursuing the appearance of perfection and start pursuing the person of God

NOTE: A 6-week teaching DVD and Bible Study guide is also available for group and individual use.

What others are saying:

“Especially written for wives and mothers who try to control everyone and everything around them (believe me, I get this!), Let. It. Go.offers solid advice, wise counsel, and a healthy dose of humor. Full of why-to and how-to suggestions, plus helpful tools to measure what needs fixing, Karen Ehman’s book goes right to the heart of the issue: ‘are we trying to be godly or are we trying to be God?’”

Liz Curtis Higgs, author of The Girl’s Still Got It

“If ever there was a book tailor made to hit at the heart of a woman’s struggle with control, this is it. I found myself shaking my head in agreement even though I wouldn’t have classified myself as a control freak.  But boy did I have a lot to learn. Not only does Karen challenge us on this important issue, she equips us to find the peace we crave as we learn to practically “Let It Go.”

Do you often have Norman Rockwell-like expectations about the holidays — the decorations, the food, the gifts, the activity — laden schedule, the family get-togethers?

There are many areas where women want to exert control ensuring the perfect yuletide season. What if we learned instead to let go of unrealistic expectations and embrace an “out-of-control” Christmas this year: relaxing and relating in a peaceful manner while letting others offer input and ultimately allowing God to call the shots?

This five-day challenge will allow Christmas to go from chaos to calm as you learn to control what you should and trust God with what you can’t. The result? Less stressing and more blessing! Details at www.karenehman.com

  1. I struggle to “let go” of unrealistic expectations… I seem to always set myself up to be let down when I expected ALOT from my loved ones and friends.
Sounds like Karen’s book is a great one!!!

    1. I struggle to let go control of my daughter’s upcoming college and career plans.

  2. There are too many things I struggle with to mention here! 

  3. I struggle with managing a very busy schedule for our family of 5, and am completely thrown for a loop if the unexpected pops up, or someone doesn’t follow “the plan”. I end my week exhausted and hoping for a chance to regroup before it starts again. and I have been told that I have control issues – so sounds like something I need to read.

  4. Control is something that I really struggle with. I feel like I need to be in control of everything in order for things to get done. If I don’t do it myself then it just won’t get done (that is what my mind says)! It is very hard for me to give things up especially to turn things over to God- I will do it for a moment and then take it back because it took Him longer than 5 minutes to “fix it” so I must need to do it. I am hoping Karen’s book can help me put things in perspective so I can learn to Let. It. Go!

  5. Jessica Engel says:

I look forward to reading this one – letting God have control is such a struggle sometimes. I hope to learn some way to apply this in my life. Trusting God to handle the big stuff, it is a real challenge. I know life would be more peaceful if I could practice this more.

  6. Count me in! This is such a hard lesson for me to learn. I agree with Jessica – life would be so much more peaceful if I would practice this more! Looking forward to reaing this one!

  7. Anne Griffith says:

It is God’s timing for me for this bible study to come out! I hope Santa will bring me one for Christmas!!

  8. I’m in! (And on the run in another state for Thanksgiving.)

  9. Karen Smith says:

I have a hard time letting someone else take over the holiday traditions in our family. Feel hurt when they want to change things.

  10. Count me in!!! I am on the run, too, but could really use help with the micromanaging part!!!

  11. Colleen G. says:

I am in. Thuis sounds like a wonderful book for a wife/mom. Would love to read it. Thanks – Colleen G.

  12. I am in and thankyou.

  13. Micro managing with the schedule. My Van died on the freeway a week ago and now I have to let everyone fend for themselves. Weird…but nice feeling. I hope when I get my van back I can not be so in control about the van.

  14. Suzanne Whistler says:

I struggle personally with perfectionism. I would love to be totally free of this sin in my life.
I am looking forward to reading this book. Thanks-Suzanne

  15. I struggle with letting go of my ideal. (my ideal marriage, family, friends, church, etc.)

  16. I look forward to this challenge. The area I struggle most is comparing myself to others. I try to control all situations so that I can be like others.

  17. Definitely need to let go & turn everything over to God. To easy to get caught up in all that “needs” to be done (especially the things that I can’t do for health reasons, but allow to drive me nuts because they don’t get done).instead of enjoying what have. Can miss out on enjoying time with others because too caught up in what needs to be done.

  18. I need to let go of my husband’s driving! I always think my route, my parking spot, my directions are better! How silly is that!? I’ve got to just let.it.go!

    thanks for this info!

  19. Barbara Prince says:

There are some things in my life that I struggle letting go of and I am a fairly calm and forgiving person. I think I am getting worse with age. Yes I do need to Let It Go.

  20. I try to control what my son in College is eating! Pretty impossible

  21. I give God the big things, but I want control of the little things! Crazy huh? Like God can’t take care of the little things too? Silly! What am I thinking! Lol

  22. I am so in! My house, my kids, even my expectations for myself! Yes, definitely need this! Thanks for the opportunity to win a copy!

  23. Letting go of situations I can not control… choices others make that affect me.

  24. I struggle with control, but I think I am getting better. Just last week I delegated more at Thanksgiving and it turned out well in spite of giving up some of the control. I want to learn more now because I think it would simplify my life, something I strive to do more of.

  25. I struggle with perfectionism as it relates to my home, my physical health, my children’s academic efforts as I homeschool them…well, basically everything. Therefore, I’m in!! I desperately need this book. 😉

  26. Candie Foster says:

WoW!! This could not have come at a more perfect time in my life!! Over the last few days, I’ve had some “revelations” or “Aha-(much more than)moments” about my life, the chaos in it, and how I keep holding on to ALL OF IT! I realized that some of my other habits are very telling about how I deal with many problems and major issues in my life. I’m a self-described “keeper”!
    I keep:
    1. Receipts ~ No, I mean ALL receipts – FOREVER!
    2. Clothes that don’t fit ~ Too small – I’ll lose weight! or Too big – I’ll gain weight!
    3. Things ~ I keep EVERYTHING! Surely I’ll need this “whatchamacallit” someday!

I could go on & on with the list, but my point… I realized that I hold on to everything with the hope of being able to “fix” it or make it right at some point. I don’t know WHEN or HOW to LET IT GO!! Even when I try to turn it over to God, I usually take it right back! I’m always rushing & running & going & doing, but I’m NEVER ACCOMPLISHING! My oldest daughter say’s I don’t “PRIORITIZE”! But it’s ALL TOP PRIORITY to ME!! I wish I could share my personal situation with you, because I KNOW I NEED some outside views and opinions… I KNOW I NEED ~ HELP!!!

  27. My entire life needs this book! I struggle constantly with wanting to have control – over my home, specifically, but it even extends to buying gifts, cards, vehicles…you name it! I need this book!

  28. Looking forward to reading this book, especially during these busy times!

  29. I’m in, i need all the help i can get!

  30. We adopted our two oldest children. Much later we found out our daughter has fetal alcohol effects. She has moved home again with two children (3 & under 1). My greatest difficulty in letting go is letting go of her future and that of her children when we see her making poor choices.
