Love for a Friend

Life. Like a crazy merry-go-around at the park. It looks like so much fun! You hop on; for just a little spin. You are still a kid at heart right? Then is starts going ’round, faster, faster, faster – until you fly off. You dust yourself off saying, “I won’t do THAT again!”. Months, maybe even years pass. New park; new merry-go-round. You see others laughing; having a good time. You can handle it. You even feel compelled; you have to get on in order to survive. Forgetting about your first experience, you grab hold of the bar and the spinning begins. “This isn’t so bad.” Then, the speed picks up. You’re hanging on for dear life! Whip! Once again, you’ve been flung onto the rough, hard, dry dirt. You sit up and wonder, “Why is life so hard?” The real question is “Why did you get on the merry-go-round?”.

Whatever your reason for trying the ride again, He is standing by you, with His hand of love saying, “Let me brush you off. Take my hand; let’s walk together.” “God…may sometimes chasten us, it is true, but even this He does with a smile, the proud, tender smile of a Father who is bursting with pleasure over an imperfect but promising son who is coming every day to look more and more like the One whose child he is.” A.W. Tozer, “The Root of the Righteous” p. 16

“As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy….” You can check out the incredible ending of this passage in Ephesians 2 (NIV)

  1. I have certainly ridden that “merry-go-round”. It appears safe and gives a false sense of security.

I love how you wrote that God is there with us, brushing us off, loving us, taking our hand and walking with us. There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:1)

    Walking with Him,
    Joy
