Made for Goodness – Fruit of the Spirit Study

In the last Wednesday’s Wisdom Tip, I challenged us to change a question we might be asking our children.

Instead of asking what they want to be when they grow up, ask them who they want to be. Focus our attention on their character more than on their career.

The  doing in our lives comes out of our being. As our character develops, God gives us a command on what we are to do:

Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (NIV)

We were created to do good and when we do good it is a beautiful thing.

I’ve never met a girl or a woman who didn’t want to be attractive. That’s the “why” behind so much of what we do. Why us Moms work out, dye our hair or try to keep up with what’s in style. It’s the “why” behind our girls asking to see pictures before we post them on Facebook!

Here is God telling us what is truly attractive: a girl, a woman, living out her calling with a life of good works.

“For we are God’s workmanship… ” That’s why we are beautiful! The One who is perfect made us!

“…created in Christ Jesus to do good works” We were made for doing good!

“which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

The “being” and “doing” work together. As we continue to daily pour in the truth of who we are and whose we are, truth suffocates lies whispered by culture and the enemy. As lies lose their breath, it brings life to the “us” we were created to be. We become strengthened to do the good works we were created for.

Are you being intentional to do those good works you were made for?

Think over the past 48 hours. Make a list of your actions that were good works. Which of those on your list were deliberate?
