Make Me Lay Down!

“Mom…I just got a phone call. Did I have a hair appointment today that I just missed?” Mariah questioned me as I sat in my office preoccupied. OMG! How could I have forgotten! I EVEN had it written on my planner!

Today, I read Psalm 23:2 “He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.” I was prompted to read it in the new book I just received from Amazon,”The Bathtub is Overflowing, But I Feel Drained…” by Lysa TerKeurst. Lysa is the president of Proverbs 31. Check out their site at . When I read that verse, the word “makes” stuck out to me. It made me think of a conversation I had with a friend last week. She said she wondered if maybe she was addicted to stress; that there was a certain amount of rush that came along with constantly being busy – especially when the busy was busy for the Lord. Maybe that’s why God used a word like “makes” me lie down, implying that there are times when He wants us to lie down, but we don’t!

When I was out running with my friend Kathy last Tuesday, I told her that one of her daughters was describing riding lessons in Sunday School on Sunday. Lara had mentioned that she would LOVE to own a horse. Kathy explained to me between the puffing of our breaths (it always takes twice as long to tell something when you are running!)her daughter could not have a horse because one horse needs a minimum of two acres of pasture land to be healthy. That seemed like a lot of land for one horse to ramble around on. I guess they need that space – room to roam.

Could the Lord be saying that the same is true for us? Like a horse, in order to live life to its fullest, do we need green pastures (or what some call margin) in our lives? I know I need to keep close to the Master so He can take my bridle and lead me out to the land I need!
