“I pray also that the eyes of your heart my be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints and His incomparably great power for us who believe.” Ephesians 1: 18 – 19a (NIV)

More; that’s what she wants for her daughter. She wants her girl to grow up with courageous confidence and without raw regret.

Even though she practically grew up under a steeple, the truth that Jesus was crazy about her somehow slipped through the cracks of her low self-worth as a teen. Turning to the choices laid out around her, she found herself giving away everything she had in hopes of love. The more she gave, the more empty she became.

That is the opposite of what my dear friend wants for her girl. Yet, she sees way too many things in her daughter’s life that look familiar to her own teen years. Chasing for attention. Doning the make-up and outfits to draw the eye.

Friends, this story is not just my friend’s; it’s our’s. Everyone of us wants our daughters to experience the unsurpassed blessings that the Lord has for them. The question is how do we give our girl the confidence she needs? Confidence that will help her to make wise choices leading to God’s highest for her?
.
We do this by first understanding the highest that Jesus has for us.

We can only pass on what we already have.

We have to first have the eyes of our heart enlightened. We have to first know the hope He has called us to.

We have to first get that guys don’t have what it takes to fill our need for love.

When we understand that love from a guy, be it a dad, boyfriend, or even husband, can never fill the love gap we have in our hearts we can pass this freeing truth to our girls; that’s when we begin to empower the next generation to live in truth.

When our girls see His incomparably great power working in us, filling our hearts, it makes Jesus believeable. As we loose ourselves in God’s passion for us, instead of looking to someone or something, they will witness a life that blossoms with purpose. It may not be immediate, in fact, it could possibly takes years for them to want what we have. But I trust in the goodness of my Jesus, that one day, my girl will want what her mommy has!

Jesus, I am desperate to see my girl walk in the freedom that comes when her heart is filled by You. Fill my heart first, Lord. Help me to run to You. May my daughter see me run and begin to run too! Amen

  1. Okay, so when I get home later, I am sitting down and meditating on this scripture some more. It was the same one from my devotion this morning. Hmmm… Think God is saying something to me here?

As I read this post, I was like… yeah, that's me and Bethany. She's not into make-up or clothes yet.(Heck, I'm tryin got get her out of t-shirts and jeans.LOL Just would like a nice shirt every once in awhile.) I see myself in her with her friendships. She's closer with the boys than girls. It's not always a bad thing, but in my case, it was. I do not want that with her.

Thank you for this post, Sister!

  2. I am right with you Lynn.

I want for my daughter to find her complete self in Christ. ALL of her worth to be solid in who she is IN HIM.

Being someone who didn't see my value until my 40's this is such a great reminder. AND what HOPE there is for our daughters to not have to go through the painful cycles that so many of us have.
