Not a Crazy Mad Woman

No…it is not His will for me to be a wild, crazy mad woman. No, duh, you might, say. That’s obvious. But if you were able to sneak a camera into one of the bubble-glass front cabinets in my kitchen, you just might wonderful sometimes what strength this woman is working in!

Today, I am reading Ephesians 1 again. I have been mulling over this chapter every day this week. It is just so jammed full – Paul was in the zone for sure when he wrote it, that I can’t move on. The great stuff starts right off at the beginning – verse 2 “May grace (which is God’s unmerited favor) and spiritual peace (which means peace with God and harmony, unity and undisturbedness) be yours from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.” The Amplified Bible rocks!

Just can’t get off that word – undisturbedness. In fact, my word check keeps underlining it, telling me it isn’t even a word! Whether it is a real word or not, I want it! Undisturbedness. Check out how www.dictionary.com describes disturbed: marked by symptoms of mental illness: a disturbed personality. agitated or distressed; disrupted: persons who exhibit symptoms of neurosis or psychosis. So I wasn’t too far off when I described myself as “crazy” sometimes! This is just the opposite of what the Lord has for me every day.

In order to actually use this terrific verse, I look at what exactly causes the crazy or disturbed behavior. For me, it is plain and simple – being too busy. Having no margin. Those afternoons when child 1 gets off the bus, get her rolling on her homework as child 2 rolls through the door preparing to go to work or rugby, when child 3 calls and says it is time to pick her up from her bus stop 3 miles from home. Back to child 1 who needs to get ready to head to softball, while getting a snack for child 3. Child 2 asks for something to eat before he heads to work and child 3 prepares for choir. (I won’t bore you with the rest of our Tuesday night schedule!) Lord…how can I avoid undisturbedness! The answer lies in a plaque my mom bought me this summer for my 40th birthday, “In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength.” Isaiah 30:15. She has observed my life and knew that I needed those works right where all the craziness takes place.

So, back to the beginning. The way I started my day today. Laying in bed, waiting for my alarm to go off, praying, “Father, help Madison with her test today. Work out all of the details for Girlz Nite Out. Help me prepare for Madi’s birthday party tonight. May I walk in Your Spirit this day and not in my flesh and emotions.” At this point, at 6:00 a.m. all is quiet. May I lean on Him to quiet my spirit in this early morning hours and carry His quiet, confident strength during the whole day.

Oh yeah…if you happen to read this before 4:00 p.m. today is Madison’s 11th birthday party so my home will be filled with many pre-adolescent, hormone filled girls, so PRAY FOR ME!

  1. Thanks, Lynn, for including us in mailing your blog. Isaiah 30:15 is marked with a pink “stickie” in my bible as a boundary marker for my life when I begin flailing rather than resting in His Peace, Presence and Protection. Thank you for the reminder of this scripture. I need it in this day ~ nothing better than His Word to carry me through.
