Powerful Prayers for our Kids

I am joining with the members of my family to make today a day of prayer; for our kids and our nieces and nephews. For many of us, our kids are moving through new stages of life: heading off for college, moving out on their own, or starting their first job. Prayer is always important, but for us, there is a heighten awareness that the battlefield of the family is warring feariously.

Some of the areas I am personally covering include:
1) Surrendering their lives to Christ
2) Securing protection from harm
3) Feeling loved and accepted
4) Turning from and resisting rebellion
5) Good family relationships
6) Attracting godly friends and role models
7) Developing a hunger for the things of God
8) Living out their purpose
9) Living in truth
10)Being attracted to holiness and purity

Most of the things listed here I received from “The Power of a Praying Parent” by Stormie Omartian. I’ll end with a prayer from that book

“Lord,
I pray that You would give (name of child)a heart that desires to obey You. Put into him (her) a longing to spend time with You, in Your Word and in prayer, listening to Your voice. Shine Your light upon any secret or unseen rebellion that is taking root in his (her)heart, so that it can be identified and destroyed. Lord, I pray that he (she)will not give himself (herself) over to pride, selfishness and rebellion, but that he (she) will be delivered from it. By the authority You’ve given me in Jesus’ name, I “stand against the wiles of the devil” and I resist idolatary, rebellion, stubborness, and disrespect; they will have no part in my son’s (daughter’s) life, nor will my chidl walk a path of destruction and death because of them…” p. 64

Lord – our children are Your’s. We ask you to step in where our influence is diminishing. We trust you to bring divine appointments into their lives, even today, to draw their hearts to You and bring them closer to carry out their purpose on this earth. Our hope is in You. In the matchless name of Jesus, Amen

  1. Beautiful, powerful prayer and areas to cover in prayer.

As one who firmly believes in praying over my children and grand children daily, and praying for the lives of other precious children, I so agree on this.

Bless you. You have a beautiful blog Lynn. It's my first visit. Saw you on twitter. Look forward to stopping in again.

Praying for you and your family now…

  2. Lisa,
