Secret #5: Stomping Out Insecurity

God had a plan for Moses. He had a speech impediment. God knew that. It didn't hold God back from choosing him.

Sounds like the way to go. Pick a guy. Give him a plan.

That’s what God did when it came to getting His people out of Egypt.

His plan: a break out. His guy: Moses.

Only Moses didn’t think it was such a great plan. We know Moses isn’t going to respond well based to God’s course of action on the first word following God laying out His plan.

But.

But, as in, Moses is not agreeing with God.

“But Moses said to God, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” (Exodus 3:11)

Ahhh…our guy Moses is insecure.

Like most of us who have suffered or do suffer from insecurity, his weakness shines out through his respond to God. But God knows Moses. He knows who He made Moses to be. He knows Moses’ purpose and He knows what He is capable in regards to Moses’ weaknesses.

God certainly isn’t going to let insecurity hold Moses back from reaching his fullest potential.

Insecurity doesn’t need to hold us back either; not when we realize our problem holds no power over God’s purpose.

God gives Moses the same powerful promise He gives to us, “I will be with you.” (v. 12)

Moses had a legitimate reason for being insecure:

“Moses raised another objection to God: “Master, please, I don’t talk well. I’ve never been good with words, neither before nor after you spoke to me. I stutter and stammer.” (Exodus 4:10, The Message)

We’ve gotten to the real issue. Moses has a speech impediment. No wonder the guy is insecure. What Moses didn’t know was our problems hold no power over God’s purpose.

God knew all about Moses’ trouble with speaking. We don’t know, but God might have actually chosen Moses for this very reason. Maybe God chose to use Moses because with this weakness, Moses would remain humble and dependent on God.

What is the problem at the root of your insecurity?

Lack of education? Struggle with discipline? Fall short of creativity or opportunity?

Friend, God calls people with problems to reach their fullest potential because then He can show His power.

He hand picks us, those of us who lack and fall short.

It’s time we start talking to our insecurity. It could use this speech right now. Go ahead – say this out loud with me:

My problem holds no power over God’s purpose in me.

No power, friend. No power.
