Secret to Finding Joy

The summer wrap-up.

Everything starts to spin as the end of summer approaches and preparing for new schedules to begin.

Sometimes as a mom, I start to spin too!

This morning I woke to this text on my phone,

“Hey Mom, if you’re up for it, tomorrow I have to leave my friend’s house at like 1:30 p.m. and at Belle they have a blow out sale and they have my favorite jeans.”

If you’re up for it…even my daughter knows when I’m starting to spin!

The beautiful thing was that before I received this text, I received joy

A song from the day before played in my head as I awoke.

“Let me find my own flame. Let me find my own fire. I want the real thing…”

My mind had soaked in the words of the worshippers and was retrieving them as I greeted the morning. The passion of the Lord coming from their very being had penetrated my heart. Joy had begun to stir…

Jeremiah 15:16 says “When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, O Lord God Almighty.”

As my heart and mind retrieved these words, the joy that came prompted me to pray. It compelled me to get up and start my day reading the very words of God, or as Jeremiah says, eat them.

Just as I am so adamant about eating three times a day to be healthy in my body, my spirit needs to eat or ingest God’s word to experience joy! At those times during our day when our mind, heart and emotions begin to spin with pressures or expectations, we can choose to eat God’s word and find our joy!

Today, let’s make time to eat God’s word. To take it in, ingest it and give away joy, joy that only comes from God’ s truth. Then we can accept God’s invitation to be a part of spreading His truth today.

Father, the day ahead looks crazy. Just looking at my schedule and the responsibilities I have makes me nervous. But before it gets started and I have an opportunity to blow it, I choose to take in your word, bringing the joy to my heart that I need. Thank you for offering me deep and lasting joy! Amen
