Summer Time Prayer
Over the last couple weeks as I have anticipated today, the last day of school, my prayer has been that my children will encounter God in a powerful way this summer; that He will invade their lives and they will know like never before. That they will know who He is. Some of that involves watching me.
So, today in my time with the Lord, I was praying for me. Having the children around 24/7 is a big change. I want them to see Him in me and nothing short of that (which will require nothing short of a miracle on the behalf of the Holy Spirit). This prayer out of The Power of a Praying Parent by Stormie Omartian said it all:
Dear Lord,
I submit myself to You. I realize that parenting a child in the way You would have me to is beyond my human abilities. I know I neeed You to help me. I want to partner with You and partake of Your gifts of wisdom, discernment, revelation, and guidance. I also need Your strength and patience, along with a generous portion of Your love flowing through me (AMEN!!) Teach me to love the way You love. Where I need to be healed, delivered, changed, matured, or made whole, I invite You to do that in me. Help me to walk in righteousness and integrity before You. Teach me Your ways, enable me to obey Your commandments and do only what is pleasing in Your sight. May the beauty of Your Spirit be so evident in me that I will be a godly role model. Give me the communication, teaching and nuturing skills that I must have. Make me the parent You want me to be and teach me how to pray and truly intercede for the life of this child. Lord, You said in Your Word, “Whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive” (Matthew 21:22). In Jesus’ name I ask that You will increase my faith to believe for all the things You’ve put on my heart to pray for concerning this child. Amen
That is what it takes. Him, pouring through us, to them. Lord – do it today!

Oh I just prayed the prayer that you shared here as I read it. Helping me to love my children the way He loves. Oh that it would be so. We always tell our children that God loves them absolutely perfectly. We love them with our whole hearts and so deeply that they won't understand until they are parents themselves. I ask for forgiveness, probably daily, when I don't love them in a way that represents God's love.
