The “Be” Resolution

On Monday, we discussed making our resolution to be instead of do. Specifically, being pleasing to God. The word being is different from the word doing. Dictionary.com describes it as: the fact of existing. Something that is. Doing, on the other hand, is defined as: action; performance; execution. Doing comes out of being. When I am a honest person, honesty is the action I take. When I am a pure person, purity shines out of my life. It covers all areas of who we are.

When I clean, I listen to sermons. Friday, the Lord chose to drive home His point even further with me through Andy Stanley’s New Year talk. Andy stated exactly what I had been processing: we need to decide who we are going to be and life will pour out from there.

I am now making a running list of just what pleases God.

Being a worshiper pleases God. “Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe.” Hebrews 12:28 NLT

Being a person who is good and generous pleases God. “And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.” Hebrews 13:16 NLT

Being an imitator of Jesus. “While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” Matthew 17:5 NIV

Being…

Being is a life long thing; it’s a life time of becoming who we were created to be. Is the Lord challenging you when it comes to being? What area is that in?

Can’t wait to hear from you!

Yes, God is indeed challenging me to 'being.' As I reflect on some of the things you wrote about, I can come up with a lot more things I do that are unpleasing to God, unfortunately. One thing in particular God is apeaking to me about is 'being….quiet'! When I get insulted I tend to jump right on the defensive and say sharp, cutting words.

He's showing me that just because I was insulted I don't have to hurt back….OOOOH that's SO hard for me to do!!

As I get closer in my relationship to God, I'm noticing that He's speaking to me more and more….or maybe it's that I'm hearing Him now.
