The Enemy in the Frig

We’ve all got enemies.

Our past.

Our boss.

Sometimes it feels like the enemy is in our own family.

For many of us, it’s hiding in our frig. In my case, it hides in the large silver pot on the top shelf of my pantry. I pretend to hide chocolate and other goodies in there thinking that if I don’t SEE them, I won’t EAT them. You can only imagine how successful that is.

This morning, I found hope for being rescued from the enemy of the silver pot.

Zechariah is prophesying of Jesus’ birth and who He would be.

“salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us -” Luke 1:71 (Maybe in my case, it’s Hershey who hates me!)

I found this word salvation in Greek is soteria, which means rescue or deliverance. That’s what I need. I need to be rescued from my excuses. Delivered from my thinking that says I deserve it. I need salvation to not be a slave to the mid-afternoon pick-me-up that a cup of hot chocolate gives me.

Do you wrestle with the stuff lurking in the pantry like I do? We are not alone, friends. Many of us try to find our completion; try to find our consolation in the sweet stuff.

Hope is on the way! Yesterday, I picked up a new study that I am going to be doing in January with a group of girlfriends called “Made to Crave” by Lysa TerKeurst. (You know what…I’m not going to wait until then to read it! In fact, I’m going to jump in right now BEFORE the Christmas goodies hit my pantry).

While I am praying for Jesus to help me find my satisfaction in Him today (and not in the peppermint bark that LeAnn Rice of She Cooks made me for Christmas), can I pray for you? A three strand cord is not easily broken. He is what we need, my friend!

Merry Christmas,

Lynn

  4. Jesus, give Kim an understanding that what you offer is deep satisfaction in You; something so much deeper than chocolate. This step is not another program; but a person. Thank you dear Jesus that you fill us completely! Amen

The Bible verse of three cords is from our wedding, too. I love it! I am struggling this time of year. It beats up any self confidence. But I am SO excited about Lysa's book. It came in the mail yesterday!!!! I would appreciate prayers for me to not be ruled by cravings for food and drink and to know that God loves me even with my flaws. Thank you!

  6. Lord, Thank you that your love has nothing to do with us and everything to do with your faithfulness. Whether we fail or succeed does not alter that. You do want us to be free…for your glory and our peace.

Communicate your unconditional love and acceptance to Teresa. Nothing could make you love her more and NOTHING could make you love her less.

You promised us that those you are IN You are free. Help us to grab hold of that freedom.

In the powerful name of Jesus,
    Amen

  7. Thank you for your prayers! I rarely seem to finish the Bible studies that I start. I really want to start and finish this one with Melissa Taylor and learn how to overcome the eating disorders that have always haunted me…

  8. Keri, I totally understand! I was reading I REALLY good book by Jente2n Franklin called "Fasting" and learning so much on how to have God's power flowing through our lives. Then I went into the office and saw Lysa's new book and started it right away!

Lord, Keri needs power to start and finish like only You can supply. Help her to ask a friend who can come along with her on this journey. Can't wait to hear what You do Lord! Amen
