I haven’t yet grasped the whole concept of the capsule wardrobe, but I can tell you already, I think it is a wise thing for us as women to investigate and teach to our girls!

The concept of more, more, more – more clothes, shoes, bags – seeps into our minds and hearts at every turn. Whether it is the online shoe store offering $39.95 plus buy one get one or Pandora streaming an ad through your phone, the marketing technique is the same.

The bigger the wardrobe, the bigger the happy factor. Really?

I’m not thinking so. Let’s begin to wrestle with our wardrobes and the desires driving our spending until we find contentment and the peace that God calls magnetic. Because you know a woman who doesn’t need to own a closet full of clothes is a woman who is going to draw some attention. And a girl who understands the uncommon characteristic of contentment is going to be one, gorgeous girl!

You’ve got a weekend ahead of you, friend! So go for it. And please – tag me on your social media! I would love to celebrate your progress with you! Let’s share our pictures on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or Pinterest.   Use #ThePurging.

HAPPY FRIDAY FRIEND!

Oh…and if you want to know what I kept for this spring, here it goes:

9 dresses

19 shirts (confession – 4 are white t’s and 4 are black t’s)

4 cardigans

5 pants

2 maxi skirts

4 jackets (2 jean – one white and one blue)

A pile of jeans (Another honest confession – I believe I kept 11! 4 are black jeans alone! Still working on my issues.)

4 pair of shorts

TOTAL: 58

Yes – short of 37, but I am feeling really good about it!

I recently read of a professional woman in the marketing or advertising industry who chose to wear her own uniform. She found a simple blouse and black slacks and has multiples and she wears the same.thing.every.day.at.work. She praised the choice saying she always looks professional (she does!) and saves time and energy every day as she gets ready for work. She chooses to wear her colorful, fun clothes on her free time. Interesting! Glad you’re feeling good about your choices hon!

I think that is so cool! This blog I read a woman did something similar. She works from home. She called her uniform jeans and a loose white button down. She says she feels like she always looks great! Getting dressed this morning, I loved that I didn’t have so many things to choose from. It sure made it easy to grab those main-stay black jeans!

Just a question about a comment in your post. You mentioned wrote about this being what you kept for “this spring.” Does that mean spring the season, or this year in the spring? Thanks. (yeah – my brain thinks strangely at times)

Hi Nancy, the blog that helped me get started on the journey recommended 37 pieces in your wardrobe per season. So 37 pieces for the season of spring. As summer comes, you reevaluate what you have and then remove or add based on need. I hope that helps!

  3. I admire this so much, and need to do it myself! I’m moving in this direction, but can’t quite get it nailed down to actually ‘purge’!! Thank you, you have motivated me, Lynn!!

It’s not an all or nothing, Bobbie! Maybe it is just a few items that you didn’t wear this year. I think the heart here is to simplify so you can focus on the things that are most important to us!

  4. Today is Saturday, and I’m going for the purge! I think you can feel good about 59 instead of 37! That’s progress, right? 🙂 It was fun to read this and to read your list.
