Times We are In

“What sorrow for those who say that evil is good and good is evil, that dark is light and light is dark, that bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter. What sorrow for those who are wise in their own eyes and think themselves so clever.” Isaiah 5:20 – 21 NLT.

When I read my daily reading today, this passage reminded me of the times we are living in. It seemed that as a child, my world was black and white. Good was good and bad was bad, but today, it seems that I am trying to raise my own children in a world that wants to be gray. A world that wants to say that evil is good, if there is love. Light is dark if there isn’t tolerance. Bitter is sweet if it makes me happy. Sweet is bitter if it costs me something. We have become clever in our own eyes and are too blind to see it.

This morning as I prayed for my own family, my children and marriage, my prayer was this “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5 NIV So often when we lack wisdom we run to our friends, Oprah, Dr. Phil, Dr. Dobson, Obama…whoever we believe has the answers to our problems. He is the answer. He has all wisdom.

The other day I was reminded of the book of Proverbs that tells us over and over and over again: above all else, get wisdom. It tells us that wisdom is more valuable than gold or silver; more than anything that we could possess.

I am desperate for wisdom. Each and every day I make decisions that impact my life, My husband’s life, my kid’s life, the lives of the teens I mentor. Every day, some one is watching. Will I choose to be clever in my own eyes or will I choose to humbly admit, I know nothing and must have His heart and mind each and every day.

Lord, Please hear the desperation I feel today. I have to have you. I have to have your wisdom. Please help me to discern good from evil, sweet from bitter and dark from light. Only You are truth. Thank you that You have been just waiting for me to ask! I love you so!
