To Open or Not to Open?

I received an email last week from one of our government representatives; a survey asking the question: Should we reopen North Carolina?

What a difficult question! I can appreciate why he was reaching out to his constituents. He needs wisdom.

In our current environment, it’s not just government officials who need wisdom. We all need wisdom for the decisions each of us is making every day.

Today I read Psalm 51;6 which says, “Yet you desired faithfulness even in the womb; you taught me wisdom in that secret place.”

“Every day, we saturate our minds in our media of choice. It might appear we believe wisdom comes from the latest news update or the app on our phone.

Yet God tells us that wisdom is found in the “secret place”.

God desires for us to experience His truth, His firmness, and His faithfulness – the picture of confidence. He wants us to experience this stability in our innermost being, in the hidden place, the deepest part of our heart. He wants His confidence to reside in that place no one else sees. There He will make known to us wisdom; there He can show us our next move.

Known in this verse is the Hebrew word yada. Some of its many definitions include: “clearly understand, instruct, know for certain, to make known and intimately.” In the deepest part of my heart, the intimate places that only He knows, there He will give me His wisdom.

I need this deep kind of wisdom. Wisdom that comes from the depths of God’s heart to the deepest part of mine. When I am upset, unglued, or uncertain, I need a wisdom only God can provide. When my world is shaken by sudden sickness, rocky relationships or failing finances, I need a confident wisdom that knows, on Christ my solid rock, all will be well.”

To obtain this wisdom and confidence, we need to slow down each and every day and spend time in God’s word for ourselves. Just as David wrote, in that secret place, there we will find the wisdom we need for today … and for tomorrow.
