Turn on the Water!

I am beginning to understand a bit more about the life that many of you lead. A couple of weeks ago I started volunteering at Proverbs 31; putting information into their data base. My new life seems to have a new mantra: So much life, so little time. I have found I have to be more organized than before. I can’t just put off running that load of laundry or figuring out what is for dinner.

This morning I tried a new thing for time with the Lord: early in the morning. 5:30 a.m. to be exact. Wow…that’s early! I read this first thing:
“O God, You are my God; early will I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh longs for you. In a dry and thirsty land where there is no water.” Psalm 63:1
(That early in the morning thing glared at me!) I am sure I have read that verse many times, but the part that I saw fresh this morning was “in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water.”
Last year my brother-in-law, Nate Rovenstine, ran in the Chicago Marathon. This is a very well known marathon – one that has been run for many years. This particular year they ran out of water. Here is how Fox News described it: “One runner died, at least 49 were hospitalized and thousands were denied the chance to cross the finish line in the race long known for its brisk fall temperatures and flat terrain. These were record temperatures for the Chicago Marathon, topping the mark of 84 degrees in 1979. Runners were diverted to the starting area, where they were provided with medical attention and cooling misters. Shortages of water and energy drinks were reported along the 26.2-mile route.” Nate was one of the runners who ended up in the hospital for dehydration.
These runners were not novices. They had all trained; knew what they were doing. But without the proper fluids, their bodies couldn’t perform.
We have to remember that we are no different. Whether we are running to work, running to volunteer for ministries, running to softball and choir or running to put some supper on the table, if we are not hydrated every day with His word and the power of His spirit, we are going to dehydrate, land in the hospital or worse get allow our spirits to die. We will be a skeleton of our true selves as we go about our day to day lives.
Up to 60 percent of the human body is water, the brain is composed of 70 percent water, and the lungs are nearly 90 percent water. Our spirits are likewise made up of water – living water. “He who believes in Me, as the Scriptures has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” John 7:38 Maybe you need a new Bible study to help give your time a lift? Check out www.proverbs31.org. They have some great ones you can order.
Gals, every time you take a drink of anything today: water, coffee, coke or tea – ask the Spirit of the Living God to hydrate your spirit just as you hydrate your body. He is just waiting to do it! He’s better than Diet Coke!
