Wednesday Wisdom Tip – Satisfied

“I wish I had more exercise discipline.”

How many times have my girls heard me say this in the past six months. On and a roll and feeling good, I hurt my ankle and the discipline ball stopped. Without a friend to give it another push, I have really struggled to get consistent again.

I have realized something this morning. As I do every day, consciously or not, I am teaching my girls.

I am modeling to complain about something I can change. Frequently making comments about what bothers me about me, I am showing them how to be dissatisfied when I can do what it takes to bring the change.

What needs to change is me!

There are so many things, though, that we cannot change. Desires of our hearts, outside our control, which threaten our peace each and every day. For those things, God comes to my rescue:

“…you still the hunger of those you cherish…when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.” from Psalm 17:14- 15 (NIV)

Again, it comes back to me to bring the change: will I allow myself to have my hunger for change stilled? Will I spend time with Him so He can satisfy me?

I want my girls to see and know, contentment comes from One source, Jesus. Whether that is in depending on Him to help me change the things I need to or being content until He changes the things I can’t.

WOW! I never would have thought about this without your post today. Thanks so much for a very timely piece of nourishment for my soul.

  2. Just talking about this today in the Beth Moore Study Breaking Free. I have been so convicted (again) of my reliance on food, literal food, to satisfy my hungry, uncomfortable, sad, disappointed, joyful heart. Whatever the emotion, it seems I turn to food to celebrate or to fill. And there is only one way out…Keep coming to God. Where I am weak He is strong!!

Elise…I hear you on the food substitute! It is so easy and quickly available. Great reminder!

  3. I have to admit that with four young ladies in my house watching and listening to every little thing I do or say, I AM daily aware of this. Sometimes, I DO voice “what ails me” – then go ahead and do what I should – just so they know that I don’t wake up perky, energized, and with a great big smile on my face every day. I want them to see me go about my chores and my day even on those days when they know I am feeling under par, disappointed in how a conversation went with a friend, or even (horrors) upset with my husband. It’s both a reminder to me and an example to them to turn to the Lord in all things. He is my strength. He is my joy. He is my ability to do, and be, and be for others. Thank you Lynn, for being real!

So true, Andi! I also make it a point to share with my girls my struggles…especially the ones they can’t see that take place in my brain! Like you, I want them to see what “real” is and how Jesus fits in our every day life!

  4. When Your Friend Is Angry With You It’d be great if all our friends could calmly tell us when we have done something to upset them. In reality, everyone is different, and they process anger and hurt in unique ways. Some people can recognize and address a situation right away. With these people, it is easy to work through a falling out .

I agree. When you want your life to change, you need to CHANGE YOUR LIFE! We can do all things through God helping us. Ask Him for help. He is Big. You are Little. He can handle it!
