Wednesday Wisdom Tip: When You Don’t Know What to Do
So many, many decisions.
Pre-K or daycare?
Public, private or home school?
Christian university, public university or community college?
And those are just the education questions! My heart is afraid to step out, make a decision, scared I’ll mess it up.
Some days, when my child asks me a question, I have been known to say, “I just don’t know. Ask me later.” I feel like I lack the wisdom to know the right answer. I feel discouraged; defeated even. Afraid to make the wrong choice, postponing seems the safest.
Recently, I came across the story of Solomon asking God for wisdom. While I know this was a special circumstance between Solomon and God, I also remember James 1: 5 tells me, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” (NIV)
So, I’ve written 1 Kings 3:12 into my prayer journal asking God with confidence for wisdom like Solomon. God promised him, “I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be.”
You’ve got questions; you need answers.
God’s the one to deliver.
Let’s choose today to trust God, believing He wants to and will give us the wisdom we need for the situations we are in. We can trust Him.
He’s God.

Good word sister. I find myself more prepared for important talks with my girls after I’ve had a time out myself. I think using a pause, time out, is a great tool as parents to educate ourselves, pray, seek wisdom elsewhere, etc. Always circling around to complete the communication is vital so our children know their questions are important. I’m finding as I age that staying calm and taking needed breaks are much easier….wisdom.
My friend Kelly Timmermans always says “Just imagine how wise we will be when we are 70!” TRUE!
Our pastor, Andy Stanley, has the question that answers just about everything: “Given my past experiences, my current circumstances, and my future hopes and dreams, what’s the wise thing to do?” http://www.justaskit.org. When I frame things this way, it’s hard to make a wrong decision.

Lynn, reading this a few days later but so glad I have! I am often seeking God’s answers, and should be always, and this verse is such a beautiful way to ask as we should and await His promised answer! God bless!
