Wednesday Wisdom Tip – Why is Love Such a Big Deal?

 

 

If you have been hanging out with me for awhile, you know that I make a HUGE deal out of understanding God’s love and just how crazy and revolutionary it is.

Why love? Why not grace, forgiveness or joy? Those are certainly important topics!

Why is love such a big deal? Today, I found my answer. Check out Ephesians 3:17 – 19:

so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.”

Years ago, my husband and I read Shaunti Feldhaun’s books “For Men Only” and “For Women Only”. Here I learned just how important security is to women. In fact, research says women rate security as their number one need.

So where can we get it?

Love

Love is the source for us to find security and perfect love comes from our father, God. When we understand and get just how much God loves us, that love stabilizes. The Bible calls this “being rooted and established”. From this place of security and stability, we have power! Power to make choices based on what honors God and brings blessing into our lives, rather than on what our emotions scream at us to do. The rooted and established woman makes decisions based on the best for tomorrow and not the quick fix today. This woman has a future that is blessed because she has learned the power of leaning on secure Perfect Love even when life is anything but secure.

This foundation of being rooted and established in perfect love is the foundation we want to build into our daughter’s lives. We need to build and then model a life completely dependent on Perfect Love. She will see…and hopefully copy one day.

Just think of one negative decision you made in your past based on the emotion you were feeling at the time. It could have been a fight you started, a relationship you started, a relationship you ended.

Now, recreate this situation as a woman who had the power from being loved. Would the outcome look differently?

I want my girls to know how, in the most practical sense, to make decisions with the power of Perfect Love guiding them. Instead of making choices that will make someone approve, someone stay or someone choose me, they can make decisions based on the understanding that they are loved! Here, they can pave a path that will lead them to the blessings of God’s very best!

  1. So agree…I want this foundation, roots for my daughters too. Otherwise, like me they’ll look for that love in all the wrong places. Food, friends, men…who knows what else. Thanks Lynn!
