Winner and Wisdom

How many of you grew up in a house that said “Do as I say, not as I do.” Not a very noble motto to live by, is it?

The Christmas season in the Cowell house meant lots of family time. During all of this time together, something glared at me like never before. I noticed how many times I would tell my kids not to do something, but only a short time later I was doing it myself.

“Don’t be sarcastic.”

Yet, I can be sarcastic.

“Don’t be disrespectful to your dad”

Yet, I would be disrespectful to them.

“Speak kindly.”

But, my tone would be short.

In Matthew 5:19 Jesus makes a promise.

“Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandmentsand teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”

If we break his commands, of which he said the greatest is to love one another, (John 13:34) we’ll be the least in his kingdom. That is definitely not what I’m purposing to do. Those who practice and teach these commands will be called great in his kingdom. Maybe not great here, but great for eternity.

It’s a two step process. We need to both live out and teach our children God’s commands.

I guess that pretty much gets rid of “Do as I say and not as I do.” As wise women, let’s get our new motto from God’s word and purpose to live this out:

“Do as I say and what I do.”

I absolutely loved hearing all of the ways that you invest in your children each day. Lord, multiply the seeds that we sow and water them with your truth! At the bottom of this post, I’ll share the winner of “His Revolutionary Love” as well as the CD “Building a Bridge to Your Child’s Heart”. (It was very exciting yesterday to pop into the Proverbs 31 office and see that there were no “His Revolutionary Love” books on the shelves! Moms are getting excited; doing this study with their girls and youth groups are sharing this truth in their small groups! Fortunately, I had a big box of them in my truck!)

The winner from yesterday is Mary @ [email protected]. Mary, please send me your full name and address and I’ll get your prizes right out!

Happy Wednesday!

Lynn

P.S. Would you please pray for me? I head out tomorrow to speak at the Children’s Pastors Conference in Orlando. I really want to empower these investors so they can communicate to our little ones that Jesus is crazy about them. Thanks!
