The winner from Monday’s post is Angela M who posted on February 23, 2015 at 7:56 am. Please send me your full name and address, Angela and I’ll get the books right out to you!

One topic I have failed to cover in the 5 years I have been writing Wednesday Wisdom Tips is being a step-mom.

I wish I had before today. With so many of us moms in the place of being step-moms, help is sure to be needed! I guess since I have never been one, I knew I didn’t have an expertise to share from.

That is until I came across this article from my friend, Kathi Lipp. I have had the privilege of speaking with Kathi at Hearts at Home…and she is an amazing woman. Here’s from my friend. (and I’ll be giving away a copy of Kathi’s book, “but I’m not the Wicked StepMother: Secrets of Successful Blended Families at the bottom of this post.)

Start with Respect

“I thought it would be easy: I would be nice, and my stepkids would like me. I would make their favorite meals and agonize over their Christmas gifts.

I did nice.

It didn’t work.

The problem? The harder I tried, the more I was ignored. Then I went to my stepson Jeremy’s hockey game in my true stepmom-of-the-year form, and cheered him on. When I shouted, “Great game!” he completely ignored me.

I cried and sulked. Then I asked a friend for advice.

To hear the great advice Kathi received and then followed, click here to read this article at Focus on the Family’s Thriving Family. Then come right back so you can enter to win!

  1. I know the feeling exactly. I have an 8 year old stepson. I can say something to him and it’s as if I don’t even exist. It does hurt my feelings and I feel that no matter how hard I try, he refuses to acknowledge me.

  2. I’m not a stepmother, but my 14 year old has a stepfather. I see this all the time in the way that he reacts to both of us. Good tips. I do remember everything sounding negative as a teen, and my husband and I were talking about this just the other day.
    I am in!

  3. I would enjoy this book myself. I am a step mother and I have friends who are also. I’d love to read it myself and then share it with them. Some of them have a hard time getting along with their step children.

  4. I would love a copy of this book for my kids’ step-mom. She has been their step-mom for six years and it’s not getting any easier for her. I want their relationship to flourish with one another, but it isn’t there yet. I hope this book will give not only her insight, but the insight for my ex-husband as well; to assist her in her relationship with my children in a healthy way.
Blending families is TOUGH WORK! Thank you so much for shedding some light on this topic.

    1. How kind and thoughtful of you to want to help your children’s step-mom grow in her relationship with them. You are so right, blended families are tough work, but our God is well able to bridge the gap. I will be praying for you, your children and their dad & step-mom.

  5. Thank you for this blog post. As a step-mom I can completely relate. I’m in!

I am a mother of 3 girls and a step mom to 1… that’s right, 4 girls… 16, 16, 14 & 10. It is a sea of estrogen at our house. We have been a blended family for 5 years and I have seen so much improvement but still have a long way to go! I would love to read this book!

  7. Denise Miskus says:

Wow, my sister the mother of 6 I mentioned for the other giveaway if the one I would share this with. 4 of the 6 are her step children. She struggles daily with them. The oldest of the 6 is her son the 4 middle are his children and the baby is theirs together. They are truly a blended family 🙂

  8. I’d love to win this for my sister. She is a step mom and its hard. This would be so encouraging to her. I’m not a step mom so I don’t understand and really can not offer advice since I’m not in her shoes. I can pray and love on her. This book , I hope, would perhaps bring some light and encouragement to her world as step mom.

  9. I need this. I’m in!
