WWT: What’s Holding You Back?

Magnetc Collage

We want to make a difference in the lives of our daughters. In their friends too. But sometimes…life just gets in the way.

Soccer, music, church, basketball, homework, meals, softball, concerts, cleaning…constant commitment pulls us away from what we want to be.

Investors in the lives of our kids.

I know.

This year my daughter, as a senior, has early release. So every day, I get to welcome her home at 1:oo p.m. When we made this choice for Madi to get out early, we had so many plans for our time together. I wanted to teach her to study the Bible – as in Hebrew, Greek, digging in stuff. Haven’t made it yet.

I want to teach her to cook, bake (ok, maybe not bake since IĀ really can’t bake)…

And now, I am looking at the first semester almost over and before I know it, her senior year will be over and we’ll be taking her to college.

No more.

We’re picking a day of the week, getting the study Bible and getting after it! A date…just like music lessons or sports practice, it is on the calendar and we’re getting to it.

I love this picture collage because that’s what these moms are doing with their daughters. Making time to study God’s word together a priority.

As you head into the holidays, maybe the real gift to give your girl (and her friends too) this Christmas is the gift of YOU and the gift of learning God’s word together. Using a book like Magnetic, with a study guide in the back, takes the guess work out of it. You don’t have to be an expert. All you need is a consistent time to learn TOGETHER!

Today, I’m giving away a signed copy of Magnetic for one of you to give to your girl, or a girl you love, this Christmas. Just share in the comments below who she is and if you have an idea to help all of us to get intentional about getting into God’s word together…PLEASE do share!

  1. My daughter. I want to have an awesome mother/daughter relationship sharing God with her. Thank you!

  2. My girls. An idea I have to share is doing a “Girl’s Night”. My girls and I paint nails, watch movies and talk which creates teachable moments, hence, bible devotionals and / or studies in a fun; yet, relaxed atmosphere.
    Thank you!

  3. My daughter Tracy. I want to send her this book to help her on her way back. She was lost but now is found and has a long journey ahead of her. I want to let her know everyday that her life still has meaning and she has so much to give. That God has a plan for her and He is always at her side. Thank you.

  4. How important to invest our time in God’s plan and then pour what we will into the next generation. Mentoring is such a great way to meet more people in the church, fellowship more often, and sometimes just an excuse to have a coffee with someone. Thank you for your encouragement. I am in!

  5. You hit the nail on the head! I need to schedule time with my kids to show the importance of our relationship with God. I have a senior and a junior in high school and it’s flying by with good intentions of making a change. Thank you for pointing out a solid idea on how to make my good intentions a reality.

My daughter is Johanna, she is a freshman in high school now. I was thinking of doing the book with her at Starbucks, and maybe putting a couple of dollars on a card for her each time. This would be a big insentive to get her going! I lije the part about doing it regularly like a music lesson, thanks.

I would love to do this with my daughter! As you mentioned, scheduling the time is the only way we get it done. My daughter and I love to take a few minutes at bedtime to share with one another and read a devotional. This book looks like a great way to invest in God’s plan for her future as God’s chosen child!

  8. I have a couple young women in mind for this book….one is a friend’s daughter that just turned 15 and the other is my niece who is 23 and newly engaged! I wish I had had godly women in my life at their ages and want to give them all the encouragement I can! Thanks and God bless šŸ™‚

  9. My 21-year old niece Dory! Her name means ‘Gift of God’ and she truly is. Her dad passed on when she was 18 and even then she was strong in the LORD and comforted them. She did her exams a month after her dad went on in glory and God blessed with flying colours and a scholarship. She is indeed hand picked by the LORD and love Him with wholehearted devotion. She is a youth leader in church, went on several mission trips and pursues the LORD passionately. She shares with me and God has linked us together, to invest in her life. Thank you for your life, sharing and blog…I am blessed to get into this link today from Proverbs 31 facebook.
God bless! Hebrews 6:10, Isaiah 62:3, Zephaniah 3:17

  10. My daughter Danielle who is 15. I would so like Danielle to see her use this book as well.My older daughter has your book and is enjoying it! šŸ™‚ Time is slipping through our fingers as these girls are growing up so fast! We really need to teach them to be in God’s word daily. Thank you!
