WWT – You Can’t Live Without It

There are things I truly can’t live without: water, food, sleep.

There are things I think I can’t live without: blue jeans, books and a boy (my husband!).

The Bible tells us, though, there is one thing we need to train ourselves not to live without: God’s word.  Proverbs 7:1 says “My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you.” One of the original meanings of this phrase “keep my words” means to cling to.

Isn’t that what we do with things we can’t live without?

Cling?

We need to be so desperate for God’s word each day, we hold on to it for dear life!

Matthew Henry’s concise commentary says: “Not only, keep them [God’s word], and you shall live, but, keep them as those that cannot live without them.”

Friend, is that how our girls would describe our relationship with God’s word? We’re desperate for it? Can’t live without it?

Let’s be diligent to cling so tightly to God’s word it is never outside of our reach.

  1. Whew! I’m pretty sure my kiddos would NOT describe me this way. I think it might be important to use a real, physical, see the gilded edges Bible in front of them. When I’m at the computer or on my nook they always assume I’m on facebook or playing sudoku! 🙂
