Yeah! I Have a Surprise!

It’s a Party!

I’m so excited…and I hope you will be too!

I’m celebrating my new book release Devotions for a Revolutionary Year; 365 Days of Jesus’ Radical Love for You with a little pre-release party!

I’ve got the streamers, balloons and cute little napkins in the pantry just ready to be put to use. I just need to a few moments to whip up my favorite raspberry-chocolate cheesecake (truly the only thing I can bake!)

In Devotions for a Revolutionary Year I share daily truths with young women, filling the love gap in their heart with perfect, unconditional love. When a girl is filled with the truth of how Jesus sees her, not only will it naturally spill out of her life, it will also lead her to make wise choices!

Great to use on its own or as a companion, Devotions for a Revolutionary Year expands on the themes of my first book, His Revolutionary Love in short, easy-to-read daily devotions that feels like we’re just having coffee together. I come alongside girls with the challenges of growing: identity and acceptance, rejection and rebellion, self-control and surrender. Through Scripture and stories of real girls, young women are encouraged to find the radical love their heart longs for each day in Jesus and learn He is pursuing them. When His revolutionary love soaks her heart day by day it makes one revolutionary year!

In Devotions for a Revolutionary Year, I help a young woman:

  • Develop the habit of spending daily time with Jesus
  • Apply God’s wisdom to the choices she makes each day
  • Find positive self-worth in Jesus’ perfect love
  • Make decisions that honor God & not follow her feelings
  • Empower her heart to choose relationships that are beneficial; not painful

  1. Lynn,

YAY!!! Congrats! Can’t wait to get my hands on a copy!! Love your writings and love your heart for ALL daughters!!

Love ya and blessings and more blessings!

    Donna B

    1. Donna, you are such a great cheerleader! Thank you!

  2. Tonya Ellison says:

I was just thinking and praying about what I can do with my daughter as far as helping her to strengthen her relationship with God. So excited! Thanks!

    1. Tonya, My first book “His Revolutionary Love” would be a great place to start! I designed it to be a book that moms and girls can do together. To help you get started, I have a free guide on my site. Just click on “freebies” and you’ll find all kinds of free resources there to invest in your daughter!

  3. All of the bullet points are so important to teach my young daughter. Unfortunately it seems times are different/harder on young girls than when I was in school. I want her to learn that her worth comes from the Lord and that pleasing Him is what matters, not what the world says. Thankfully I have Him to lean on in teaching her all of this. Of course your book would help me too!

    1. I just told my 15 year old yesterday that growing up today is so much harder. All the more reason as moms, we have to be the ones who teach them God’s word. As my friend, Erin Bishop of The Whatever Girls says, “We have to teach with intention and not hesitation!”

  4. Find positive self-worth in Jesus’ perfect love
This is what I want for my daughter (and sons)

  5. Tammy McKinney says:

Each one of the bullet points is what I want for my daughter. I am excited to read both the book and the devo. Thank you!

  6. ■ Find positive self-worth in Jesus’ perfect love
At times, I get so caught up in believing satan’s lies….I so desperately need to abosrb the love of Jesus!

  7. I want my daughter to be able to get a firm foundation in all the areas you’ve listed, but I believe right now, the most pertinent is, “Empower her heart to choose relationships that are beneficial; not painful”

    Thank you!

  8. They are all so important! But I think the positive self-worth is most appropriate at this time of her life and what I worry about most.

  9. Make decisions that honor God & not follow her feelings. Feelings can be so strong, we need to know how to cope with them. How to honor God through them.

    1. That is right! Makes me think of my friend, Lysa TerKeurst and her new book Unglued!

  10. Applying God’s word to her daily decisions and spending time with Him daily. The teen years are so full of peer pressure that I pray she chooses to do what is right rather than blindly follow the crowd.

    1. So Ginny. They need to know the Word to apply the Word, right?

  11. I think I would have to say the making decisions based on God’s Word and not her feelings stuck out to me the most. My oldest daughter will be 9 yrs old in Dec. and we are butting heads SO much on obedience. “I don’t FEEL like it” is her FAV response I think! I SO see myself in her more and more these days! I am surprised my Mom didn’t go gray! Would love this book to read with her and then my other 2 girls when they get older. I can use ALL the help I can get! Some days are good, others can be so exasperating! Thank you!!!! God Bless!! 🙂

    1. Just think of the women our girls would become if we would teach them before they leave our homes not to live by their feelings…that would be truly empowering!

      1. And this is SO hard, because as women we DO live by our feelings. At least, I know I do SO much of the time! I struggle with this alot and don’t want my girls to. Would love this book! Thank you for your response! Yeah, where were you when I was growing up?? hee hee! Thank you for your ministry!

  12. They are all so important for our daughters and sons.
    Thank you

  13. I think it will be most important for my daughter to honor God in her decisions and not follow her feelings. She has some really strong emotions, good and bad, and I just think this will help her most.

  14. Maria Smith says:

■Apply God’s wisdom to the choices she makes each day – So excited about this book! My daughter actually asked me this morning if I could get her a new devotional book!!! 🙂 She started Middle School yesterday!

    1. Wow Maria! How cool is God when it comes to perfect timing!

  15. Hard to choose just one bullet—finding positive self worth in Jesus’ perfect love can lead into those last ones that would empower my daughter tremendously! Question: my oldest daughter turns 13 later this fall. Is this an appropriate age for reading both the book and devotions?

  16. Renee Melius says:

Making godly choices and not just feelings. Wish I had had a book like this growing up.

  17. I think most important to my daughter would be spending time daily with Jesus. Seems like if she has that habit, she will grow to know Him and love Him more and those other things will come from that. Thanks for the giveaway and just the opportunity to help my girls draw nearer to the Lord.

  18. Most definitely for my daughter is to find positive self-worth in Jesus’ perfect love. Once she truly understands her worth because of Jesus’ love – then she can begin to build on the other things. She’ll want to spend time daily with Jesus. She’ll then learn His wisdom to make right choices. She’ll begin to walk in the Spirit and not follow her feelings. And because of all those great choices she’s made – she’ll choose relationships that are beneficial and not painful.

Oh where were you when I was growing up? 🙂

    1. It depends on how old you are, Melissa. 🙂

I have been mentoring teen girls for 12 years, but it took way too long to find a publisher who believed in this message as much as I did!

  19. Jennifer L says:

Having 5 daughters….Yes, 5 daughters!!! My ultimate goal is to have them develop a close walk with the Lord everyday! I would love for them to try this new devotional!

  20. I have three girls, and I really feel strongly about each of the bullets, but the one that stand out the most right now is finding a positive self-worth from Jesus’ love for them. It breaks my heart to hear my little 8 year old talk about how she is ugly (which she is NOT!) and that she is just not good enough. I have no idea where she gets this, and she is only 8! I want more than anything for her to know that she is a princess, because she is a daughter of the KING! And for her to know that she is good enough, because Jesus loves her completely and that she was important enough for him to die for her!!!!

  21. Courtney Taylor says:

I am so excited to run across this! I’m such a novice but I’ve felt it in my heart to start a Mother/Daughter bible study for our middle school girls. It starts this weekend! It’s too hard to choose but right now this bullet point speaks strongly to me and my situation.
■Apply God’s wisdom to the choices she makes each day
Thanks so much! God bless you!
    xo-Courtney Taylor

    1. Thank you so much for investing in teen girls, Courtney! They need us to pour into them!

  22. Developing the daily habit of spending time with God! (and making wise decisions)

  23. Pick one bullet?? I would say the most important would be for her to develop the habit of spending daily time with Jesus!

  24. I am not sure I could choose a bullet point! The choice would change daily, but I would have to say choosing to spend time in God’s Word and choosing relationships that help her, not hurt her would be my top two right now. Teens struggle with being teens right now. I have a Bible study group for my daughters age group–12 & 13 year olds. We have 25 girls coming, because the want to know the truth! I can’t wait to see this book & devotional. It could become part of what we study, but for sure I want to do this with my daughter!

    1. Joyce, make sure you check out the free leadership guide on my website under “freebies”. It makes going through “His Revolutionary Love” easy – whether it is with your girl or a group of girls.

  25. The bullet point above that stands out to me is “Find positive self-worth in Jesus’ perfect love” because I know that when you get a revelation of His love for you, then all else will follow.
Enter me in drawing? Thank you!!

  26. Jaime Tyson says:

All of the point are great, but this is the one that stands out to me: Find positive self-worth in Jesus’ perfect love. Even for myself as an adult, that is hard to do. Sometimes I find myself looking for certain things from my husband, and some things only come from a relationship with Jesus. If girls learned to find love and acceptance through Jesus, so many problems in society would be solved, and fewer girls would be looking for love in the wrong places.

  27. I would love for my daughter to spend more time with Jesus. I know the more time time she spend, the rest will follow.

  28. I think all of these points are important to my daughter she is in love with God and His Word she calls them love notes. I feel as if this will continue to inspire her to keep on the full armor of God and continue to fall in love with God and His beautiful Word

  29. I believe developing the habit of spending daily time with Jesus is the most important because it will help with all the other bullet points. You have to spend time with Him daily in order to know exactly what is He would have you to do. I wish I had learned that lesson earlier in life!!

  30. One of the most important format daughter at this point in her life is to make decisions that honor God. She’s 12 years old and tends to follow the crowd instead of standing up for her beliefs. Breaks my heart, but I was like that at her age and I think a book like this would be a tremendous benefit to her.

    1. Brandy, part of what causes our daughters to follow the crowd is when they do not have a right understanding of how God sees them. When they see God how God sees them, they can begin to see themselves that way too!

  31. Laura Davis says:

I would like my daughter to experience that daily time with God.

We would love to win this copy, but will purchase for sure later this year!

  32. Apply God’s wisdom to the choices she makes each day

To have that daily dependence on God’s love and word is truly learning to pray without ceasing. This is my prayer for my daughter and my self.

  33. It is hard to choose; we benefit from all those things, but I guess I want most for my daughters to be able to apply God’s wisdom to the choices they make. Thank you for sharing what God has given you.

  34. I think encouraging my daughter to spend time with Jesus each day is the thing I need to focus on this year. I think the rest will follow when you spend time with the Creator! This looks fabulous! Thanks for the chance to win!

  35. Jeni Wurmlinger says:

My daughter age 14 loves His Rev. Love..she has a friend that struggles with esteem and she wrote her out one of the letters “from Jesus” in the book that the college girl gets from the Counselor! it was touching to her when she realized they were scripture references…it saddens me to the depths of my heart at the “comparing” girls seem to endure…however, I remember that too at her age just on a dif. level most likely….So the bullet pt. about her finding her postive self worth in JESUS is it for us!! I hope I win but even if I don’t…I’m still buying it!!! 🙂 Lynn this is a gem to me because you are so right on with girls today, and you’re so real about making mistakes or blowing it..like we all do, ESPECIALLY with teenaged daughters…actually I think I’ve prob. blown it this week at some time! haha but fortunately Jesus is right there with me…pulling me up so my girls can see a Godly example….GREAT JOB!!! so excited to share this info. with my fellow mom friends! 🙂

    1. Thanks so much Jeni! We definitely all mess up…we’re just not being real if we don’t think we do! I don’t share all my mess-ups (I have to respect my kid’s privacy), but I try to be as honest as I can and still protect them.

I love the story you shared about “His Revolutionary Love.” I believe “Devotions for a Revolutionary Year” will have the same effect only more so as they soak in God’s truth every day!

  36. I am excited about your new book. I have 2 daughters (13 and 16), both struggle with so many things. I believe the bullet that stood out for me if the benefit of “finding self worth in Jesus’ perfect love”. Both are beautiful strong girls but I see them struggle with this when dealing with friends and drama.

Thank you for taking the time to share your wisdom

    KIM

  37. How can you choose one of the points. They are all so very important. I hope and pray that my girls will grow into wonderful Christian ladies. I haven’t read your books yet– but they sound like books that would be helpful in pointing people in the right direction. God Bless!!

  38. Susanne Knight says:

I am very excited about your book. my daughter is a senior in high school and I am always looking for ways to help my daughter understand how to make decisions that are pleasing to God and not her feelings. It is especially important as I near the time when I will not have as much of a direct influence on her decisions. Any tools that will assist me in this are a true blessing, so that you for sharing your experiences.

    1. Susanne, my oldest girl is a senior too. Not much time left, do we? Hoping God will give us the wisdom and time to pour in as much as possible!

  39. My favorite bullet point was: ■Develop the habit of spending daily time with Jesus – I think with that firmly embedded, then the rest will follow. But it is often the hardest one. Although I think if I had started that routine earlier in life it wouldn’t be so hard to follow over the years…

THANKS – looking forward to getting a copy and putting it into practice.

  40. Beth Gillihan says:

Picking just one is hard! Probably learning to spend time everyday with Jesus would be the one! I have two daughters(13&9) and would love to help them learn to spend time everyday with Jesus!! Thanks!!

  41. Deanna Nalley says:

I am SOOO excited about your book!!! My oldest daughter just turned 13 and is dealing with alot, going back to school, friends, sports, etc. So I would love to encourage her to spend more time with Jesus every day and to make honoring HIM most important in her life, in her decisions, in her relationships, and in everything she does. She is struggling with dealing with her feelings and the words that come out of her mouth (no filter) right now. . . . just being hurt and in turn being hurtful to others. It is not a major problem but has come up a few times recently so I want to “nip it in the bud” before it becomes a huge problem!!! Thank you for your encouragement to me and other moms with daughters!!!! May the Lord bless you and your ministry!!

  42. I’ve been reading His Revolutionary Love with my daughter. It is very revelant to some situations she is facing right now. I really think that “Find positive self-worth in Jesus’ perfect love” is a huge impact.
    Thanks so much!

  43. Lynn,

I am SUPER EXCITED for this devotional!!!!
On September 8th I am starting a bible study with my girls at Cornerstone Baptist, Stafford VA using your book His Revolutionary Love!

When i was searching for a bible study this is what I was looking for:
Find positive self-worth in Jesus’ perfect love
Make decisions that honor God & not follow her feelings
Empower her heart to choose relationships that are beneficial; not painful

BUT all of your points are just what they need!

    CELEBRATING WITH YOU!!!!
Thank you so much! I cannot wait to start!!
    ~Melissa

    1. Hey Melissa! I’ll be speaking in Petersburg, WV October 13th. Is that very far from you? It would be great if you could bring your girls group to the “His Revolutionary Love” conference there!I’d love to meet all of you!

      1. Lynn, Yahoo Maps says your conference is about 2 1/2 hours away! That would be exciting! How would I get more information about attending? I could look into it!

  44. I have two teens, one with an eating disorder. It is a horrific experience for our whole family. When I saw this book, I jumped at the chance to get it for my precious angels! ALL of them are truly important to me, but I see the positive image of self from Christ as being sooo life and death important to them.

    1. Lisa, can I humbly recommend that you get her “His Revolutionary Love” as well? It is the foundation to helping her see who Jesus says she is…just as she is and just as He created. “Devotions for a Revolutionary Year” will also help as she reads short passages each day to fill her heart! You can read a sample chapter on my website. Just click on “books” at http://www.LynnCowell.com.

  45. Christina says:

All of them! Can’t wait to read the devotions!

  46. I’ve always wondered what I would ask for my children if, like Solomon, I could ask for anything. Obviously, his choice for wisdom was commendable, but later in life, Solomon turned to idol worship. He was wise, but he did not love God like his father, David, did. Of course, although David loved God, he still made grave errors in judgment (sin) during his life. All that to say, if I could choose anything for my kids, I would ask that they love God with ALL their heart, so that it would lead them to walk with Him daily and make God-honoring decisions. Thus, I would choose:

    * Make decisions that honor God & not follow her feelings

Of course, all of those bullet points are inter-related, so it’s really hard to choose just one!

I’ve been looking for a devotional for my daughter for next year – it was a blessing to come across your site today. I’m thankful for Godly authors such as yourself who will help to mold my children. You are much appreciated!!!

    1. Sandy, what great timing! Glad the Lord allowed our paths to cross!

  47. Melanie McKinley says:

I think the bullet point : develop the habit of spending time with Jesus daily is the most important. His word says in Matthew 6:33; But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. I can’t wait to see the devos, I’ve been trying to figure out a way to have devotions with my two girls each morning during breakfast before school.

  48. Shay Greer says:

I purcase the book His Revolutionary Love for my 10 year old daughter. I am excited about this new devotional because it is a good way to teach her the habit of spending time w/God each day and it is written for her age group. I think she will enjoy this and it will help her to make better decisions when she is feeling extremely emotional.

  49. I bought His Revolutionary Love for my daughter, too, and am looking forward to getting the devotional. We just started reading through the book and the bullet points I’d love for her to learn are finding her self-worth in Christ and in applying God’s wisdom to her choices. Having just started middle school, I know she will benefit from this!!

    1. So glad you are investing in your girl, Karla! If you haven’t, get the free leadership guide under “freebies”. It will provide additional questions and open up even more conversation!

      1. Thank you! I did print off a copy and will use it. She wants to do this with the girls at church!

  50. Amanda Gay says:

I would like for my daughter to develop the habit of spending daily time with Jesus and apply God’s wisdom to the choices she makes each day. I know you said to pick one, but I really think these are both very important for my daughter! Thank you!

  51. All important if only pick one would be positive self worth

  52. I think the bullet point “Develop the habit of spending time with Jesus daily” is the most important. If my daughter at the age of 14 can develop this habit now, what a much richer life she will have!

  53. Whoohoo!! Look at all these comments… I’m imagining all the girls lives that will be changed by this book, Lynn!

I cannot wait to get my hands on a copy!

  54. “Make decisions that honor God & not follow her feelings” would be so beneficial for all of us, but especially as my daughter starts her Sr. year of high school.

  55. Julia Reffner says:

My daughter most needs to develop the habit of spending time with Jesus as she’s 7 and just beginning to be able to read the Bible on her own.

  56. All are great points. I would have to choose “Find positive self-worth in Jesus’ perfect love”. I’m afraid that I haven’t been the best example of this as I have a very low self-esteem, but I’m slowly learning how important it is to “find positive self-worth in Jesus’ perfect love”!!

    1. Melaine, you and your girl and learn to find a positive self-worth TOGETHER! That is one reason I wrote “His Revolutionary Love” as a book that moms and girls can do together (with the free leadership guide under “freebies”). I know that as women we struggle, yet we want our girls to be strong. Doing the book together, you both grow at the same time!

  57. Julie Osmonson says:

Make decisions that follow God and not follow her feelings!

  58. I am the stepmother of a 12 1/2 year old young lady who has gone through a lot of changes this summer. As we entered middle school last year, she was faced with a lot of decisions to make on who to spend time with, what to believe from friends–especially boys, and how to do her best with school work. She is a great young lady who loves church. However, the one key element that we are still working on is spending daily time with the Lord. I would love to have this devotional to get her into the habit in something that is age/developmentally appropriate for her. I know that once that intimate relationship with the Lord is established, all the rest begins to fall into place or is easier to receive/make sense of. Thank you for your heart for young girls and your devotion to assisting moms, or step-moms, like us who really want to shepherd our daughters as we love them unconditionally!

  59. All of these are so important. If I had to put them in order, I’d say:

    2. Develop the habit of spending daily time with Jesus
    3. Apply God’s wisdom to the choices she makes each day
    1. Find positive self-worth in Jesus’ perfect love
    4. Make decisions that honor God & not follow her feelings
    5. Empower her heart to choose relationships that are beneficial; not painful

I’m really looking forward to the devotional book and letting those truths fill her each and every day!!

  60. Kelly Leonard says:

So excited to get this book and see my daughter grow closer to our Lord Jesus!

  61. I would love for for my daughter to stop and consider the choices she makes each day and to apply God’s wisdom to each.

  62. Apply God’s wisdom to the choices she makes each day. She has not been making wise choices lately and it is very frustrating. It seems at time she is running away from God instead of to Him!!!!!!!!

  63. All of these points are so important, but I think all 3 of my girls struggle with “Finding positive self-worth in Jesus’ perfect love” the most. Their self-esteem just gets battered on a daily basis, from others around them, as well as their own insecurities – in spite of how often they hear me say that it is what Jesus says about them that matters.

  64. Im so excited. I’ve been waiting since you announced this book last year. I did ” His revolutionary love” with the girls from our youth group. It was amazing. I would say spending time with daily witb Jesus. Its important to instill this early so it just becomes an essential part of their life. Thanks Lynn.

    God bless,

    Georgia Dunne

  65. My heart jumped with joy when I saw your last bullet point-
■Empower her heart to choose relationships that are beneficial; not painful
Relationships can be so complicated- So many emotions/feelings/etc. involved- Thank you for sharing your Godly wisdom on the subject- Looking forward to reading!! God Bless you Lynn 🙂

  66. I would live to win this for my 15 year daughter who struggles with her self image. I think this would help her out. High School girls can be so mean, especially if you aren’t in the “in” crowd. Thanks for the chance!

  67. I want my daughter’s relationships to be beneficial! I want her to know that healthy relationships are very important. Can’t wait to get our copy to study together!

  68. Kim Hutchins says:

All of them. I want both my girls to know they are loved by God and are His.

  69. Kayla…that’s great! If you need more than 6 copies, contact me. I’ll sign them for each girl and get you a discount as well 🙂
