A Prayer for Us

My dear friend, Wendy Blight, shared this with me this weekend. (Wendy has just started a study in Hebrews…stop over to her website. www.WendyBlight.com)
Our prayer…
Deliver me, oh Jesus, from the desire of being loved.
From the desire of being extolled
From the desire of being honored
From the desire of being praised
From the desire of being preferred
From the desire of being consulted
From the desire of being approved
From the desire of being popular
From the fear of being humiliated
From the fear of being despised
From the fear of suffering rebukes
From the fear of being calumniated (maligned)
From the fear of being forgotten
From the fear of being ridiculed
From the fear of being suspected
It is a very challenging prayer the Missionaries of Charity (Mother Teresa) meditate upon.
It’s a challenge to me as a mother. I want my kids to like me, appreciate me, thank me.
It’s a challenge to me as a wife. Why do I do the things I do?
It’s a challenge to me as a servant of Jesus. Lord, weigh my motives and cleanse my heart where I fall short.
Friend, print this out today. Put it somewhere close where you can think on it through out the weekend. I’d love to hear how the Lord uses it to work in your heart.

  1. I have been asking the Lord to give me an unoffendable heart. Of course you know what happens as a result of such a petition, and I confess that I have failed miserably. This prayer has put the spotlight on what is in my heart that causes me to have such an easily offended heart. I have had an agenda all along and it has not been God’s. He is such a loving Father to show that to me so succinctly in this simple but profound prayer. Thank you for sharing it.

    1. Debbie, Isn’t that just the way it is? When we ask for His character in our life, we get a situation where we need it! Glad you liked the prayer!

This is so relevant. I will print this out as a daily prayer. I am in a different location away from all I’ve known with just my girls. But I realize its not just my girls and I. Jesus is truly with us. I lean on everyone that writes on ps 31 ministry for staying connected in line with God. God bless you guys forever

    1. LaToshia, Thank you SO much for your encouragement! I appreciate it so much!
