One of the most powerful truths I learned as a young woman fresh out of school was the power my mind had when it came to my thoughts.

Before God brought some amazing friends in my life who taught me how to soak my mind in God’s truth, I would allow my heart to be saturated in thoughts that naturally flowed out of rejection:

I am not wanted.

What’s wrong with me?

No wonder they don’t like.

These thoughts had the power to beat me down and hold me back from reaching my fullest potential.

Thankfully, when God brought some women into my life who lovingly showed me I was allowing my mind to go to the wrong place, I listened. I wrote out the verses they shared with me on index cards and I carried them with me everywhere. For years, I read these verses between classes, on my desk at work, on my mirror in my room.

Any place where my mind had the opportunity to wander, I placed God’s word in it’s way.

When we work God’s word into the inner places of our hearts and minds, His love transforms us. Knowing we are wanted weaves into our very being His confidence and the power to move from rejection to transformation. The self-conscious woman who was suspicious and defensive began to fade as the woman He created me to be began to grow.

So here they are. My favorite five verses on how, through His love, Jesus sees us:

His Revolutionary Love

“The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”     Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV)

“My lover is mine and I am his …”   Song of Solomon 2:15a (NIV)

“You are altogether beautiful, my darling, and there is no blemish in you.”  Song of Solomon 4:7 (NASB)

“The king is enthralled by your beauty; honor him, for he is your lord.”  Psalm 45:11 (NIV)

“God decided in advance to adopt us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do and it gave him great pleasure!”   Ephesians 1:5 (NLT)

Finding Jesus to be the filler of my love gap made all the difference!

Today, I’m giving away a copy of His Revolutionary Love: Jesus’ Radical Pursuit of You to one reader. To enter to win, please share on my blog in the comments below which verse speaks to your heart or if you have another, we would love to hear it! (In order to be entered to win, you must post the comment on my blog.) If you’re in a hurry, just share, “I’m in!” I will announce the winner on my Wednesday Wisdom Tips next week.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

You are loved!

Lynn

  1. I love the verse from Zephaniah, such a great reminder of how much God loves and values me!

    1. I love that He,delights in me and sings over me.

  2. Zephaniah 3:17 is a verse that first ministered to my heart years ago. I have it posted by my kitchen sink (which I spend a lot of time at). However, since having it there for so long, I have begun to not really see it. It became part of my “landscape”. Recently it has been brought back to the front of my attention. How wonderful to truly ponder this verse, to roll it around, bask and soak in the truth of it!

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

That does happen easily doesn’t it, Amy!

Wednesday I put up a really large sign in my kitchen with Joshua 24:15 “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (I actually put it up not just for me what to send a message to the enemy!) I hope I never stop “seeing” it.

    2. My thoughts also… These words being assurance and support during times of tribulation. God is so good! There is no greater love! Gonna make me a sign today to post in my kitchen!

  3. As an adopted child, I really struggled with being “given up” until somewhere along the way I realizes that I was picked! There are several verses in the Bible about being adopted into God’s family and I love each one of them!

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Paige, I am so glad that this realization came to you!

I was reading a psychology book recently and it said exactly what God’s word says: events don’t determine our feelings, our thoughts do. When I saw that in black and white on those pages I thought “Of course this is true! This is what God’s word says!”

Your thoughts – You were picked – completely changed how you felt. Thank you, Jesus!

    2. I was adopted as well, and I love the verses about adoption. I especially love that God decided IN ADVANCE to adopt me. I was chosen, loved, proved worthy and adored before & in spite of any shortcomings I would have. WOW!

  4. I love Isaiah 49:16 ” Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me”. I clung to the Lord more when my ex-husband left me. I felt the deepest rejection I’ve ever felt. But God. He makes all things new. He completely healed my broken heart. Now, 5 years later I’m remarried with 2 beautiful boys. I’ve learned to trust God because of who He is.

  5. Cathleen Winter-Rafalko says:

I love zep3.17, the thought that father delights in me and is mighty to save is hopeful and encouraging thanks for the love verses. It’s the most important action father calls each of us to do. Blessings dear sister in christ ♡♡♡

  6. I seem to be bumping into Zephaniah 3:17 lately. This is probably the third or fourth time I have come across it in the past couple weeks. It also is a verse a wise lady gave me years ago when I was first beginning my journey with Christ. I’m clinging to it in these difficult days.

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Mandi – I love when God sends a message to us over and over and over again. A sign of His love for us!

  7. Elizabeth says:

    Solomon 4:7….Without blemish .!!!??❤
After years of struggling /working in the beauty industry to try to achieve outward beauty for myself and others, .this is just music to my heart.Hair courses..nail courses..aesthetic courses….just to try to learn how to look better..more attractive..more stylish..ughhhh it exhausted me!!!lol
That we would be loved and accepted as we are is so comforting and I am freed..blessed and grateful for his promise.to take comfort that my appearance and heart could be without blemish in Jesus eyes..

  8. Jessika Michaelangelo says:

    Ephesians 1:5

Wow! It amazes me, and humbles me, that God, the Father of all, not only WANTS to love me, but DELIGHTS in doing so. How incredible is that! And knowing that no matter what, no matter who betrays me or rejects me in life that God will ALWAYS delight in loving me…who wouldn’t get the warm & fuzzies from that?

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

      YES!!! I know I do 🙂

      1. Pat Quesenbury says:

Comforting and encouraging verses! Thanks for sharing! I’m in!!!

  9. Proverbs 2:22 The rich and the poor have this in common, The Lord is the make of them all.

This amazing God who created everything in the world, He created the mountains, the oceans, the desserts, He cared enough to create us too.

  10. I like the verse from Zephaniah. I would love to win your book….as a women unsure of her place in God’s heart, just learning about Christianity personally, I hope it could enlighten me.

  11. “He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” The fact that God takes delight and rejoices over me, makes me pause and really think about how much and complete his love for me actually is. That knowledge is what quiets my restless and ever searching soul. I feel so loved.

  12. Song of Solomon 2:15a! The Lord is my love and he gave me my love, my husband! I am blessed to experience a wonderful love (not always easy but always love) with a man I know the Lord marked for me. I know two great loves and I am better for it. They give me the strength to love!

  13. I am mentoring a beautiful young girl who is just now “getting it”. I will be sharing your verses. Zephaniah is becoming one of my favorites, as well! God is laying on my heart how important is memorizing scripture and hiding it in my heart. Think I will try that one to start.

  14. What a wonderful reminder of God’s love for me! Thank you for this – I needed this today.

  15. The verse from Zephaniah speaks to me, especially the line “He will quiet you with His love”. As a woman who has spent much of her life trying to earn love and acceptance, the knowledge now that He is enough relieves the anxiety and turmoil created by my striving, He truly does quiet my anxious and restless heart. I now have a young daughter and see in her the same temptation I have often felt to seek value and worth in the opinions of other people. I pray that God will guide me as I shepherd her toward Him and that she would come to fully realize His abundant and faithful love much earlier in her life than I did!

  16. Speaking of rejection, after a recent divorce I moved into a new home with my young daughter. Christ’s love for me on moving day was overwhelming as He knew this was a difficult transition for me. He sent me many blessings that day in the form of my church family. Twenty six people helped me move that day. This was an experience that I will never forget……the real feeling of God’s love. One of the ladies placed a note card on my windowsill at my kitchen sink which had Psalm 139:14 which I didn’t know was there until everyone had left and I had quiet time to reflect upon where God was leading me next. It said,”I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

I was created with purpose and now I cling to God’s word to overcome my feelings of rejection.

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

What a beautiful testimony of love, Michelle!

  17. Psalm 45:11 So often I get “enthralled” with the beauty of others – my friends, neighbors, magazines at the check out. I constantly compare myself to others and I always fall short. I am going to print this out in HUGE letters and put it on my bathroom mirror and hide it in my heart!
I read your post over on Prov 31 this morning. I too was the girl who wished many a Valentine’s Day never happened. I never got the red or white flower either in middle school or high school. It crushed me. Sadly, my favorite Valentine’s Day was in the 4th grade – I had the chicken pox and didn’t have to face my fears!

  18. Amy Fischbach says:

Zephaniah 3:17. One of my favorite verses! I still can’t understand how he delights in me, but am so grateful for it!

  19. Christine D. says:

Eph 1:5 – that He willingly chose us!! thanks for your inspiration and your authenticity!!

  20. I also like the one from Zephaniah. I have it printed and posted at my desk at work.

  21. Sounds so familiar! It’s funny how we bring those feelings of insecurity with us in to adulthood! What man kind can do to one another! Thank You Jesus I am Yours!

  22. Ephesians 1:5
As an adoptive parent, this speaks volumes to my heart. Even as we are struggling with some hard things
With her in this last year. It just reminds me that I am chosen and that I am loved even in my junk and hard
    stuff.

  23. melody clubine says:

The verse from Ephesians really speaks to me, as i have experienced rejection from my biological family (if you make enough really bad choices over the years, you can really wear out the people who love you! ) but have never spent a second outside of His love for me! It took me many years to know that, tho, so each love verse is beautiful to me! I know what garbage heap God found me on, and i praise Him every day for being my Kinsman-Redeemer!

  24. Cynthia Smith says:

I love the scripture that says He will hide us under his Wings. Ah, to be in the shelter of his rock and under his wings as a bird gathereth her chicks.

  25. The one from Zephaniah. That one resonates with me and gives me strength.

  26. Solomon 4:7 –i need to see myself as He sees me–been my struggle all my life.Taken almost 40 years to get His image of me in my mind and heart and not my fathers or other mens.My God loves me as I am! Wish you had a book geared to us older gals-but I know a couple girls I can give this book to so they will place their worth in Gods view of themand not societys.Blessings!

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Jenn – I have heard that for many years now. I am going to start praying the Lord will open the doors for me to write that book. I think it’s time. 🙂

      1. Yeah! That is great to hear, Lynn! :-). I will be praying with and for you that God will open the doors for you to right a book for older women. Nevertheless, I have been blessed by your books that are geared for younger women.

      2. yeah! I will watch for that and I pray God blesses you with the words to write and the time to write it. May doors be opened and it be a effortless writting!

  27. Zephaniah 3:17. – Thankful that God delights in me even when I don’t feel worth.

  28. Solomon 4:7 jumped out at me. As a young girl I felt very much the way you did. I wanted so badly to be liked especially by a boy. All my friends had boyfriends and had dates to the prom. I wanted that too. I also felt very ugly. I have a big mole on my cheek that made me feel vwry self conscious. I like Solomon 4:7 because it reminds me that I am beautiful and without blemish. Unfortunately, I still have a lot of the same insecurities I had as a young girl. I need to remind myself everyday that I am loved by the Kng of Kings and his opinion of me is very more important than anyone else’s opinion of me. Thanks for sharing I will be sure and make these 5 scriptures a part of my daughter’s life so she knows how beautiful she is to the most important person in the world.

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Mary – I think we all come out of our teen years with insecurities. Some just more visible than others. I love that God’s word is a balm to our hurting hearts and no matter what our age, He can heal us. He is healing your broken heart, friend! Keep applying His word to your wounds. He will set you free!

  29. Zeph 3:17 sticks out the most; however, I needed them all. We just moved to a new state and just last night I was scurrying for scriptures to lean upon but nothing was popping out at me. We’ve been here just 2 weeks and the emotions that come with such a big move can be overwhelming and consuming. This post was so timely and God knew I needed it this AM. Blessings.

  30. “THis is the day the LORD has made. I wll rejoice and be glad in it”. Rejoicing in Him makes all things right. Thanks for sharing.

  31. “You are altogether beautiful, my darling, and there is no blemish in you.” Song of Solomon 4:7
I needed this verse this am….I’m going thru a seperation after 26 yrs of marriage…..This is truly one of my favorite verses. Seeing this verse this am, made my heart fill will love, knowing I have the best Valentine of all….

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

      Oh yes we do, Kelly!

  32. Nichole Sullivan says:

I love all those verses. I find my self constantly not feeling good enough. From being rejected in High School to now as an adult and not feeling good enough. I can so easily turn my thoughts to the negative on my self. I really need to focus my “thought closet” and shut the “playground” in there. I love the idea of carrying these beautiful verses everywhere I go for those moments! Another verse I just love, because it shows just how special I am to God is…

    Psalm 139:13-16The Message (MSG)

    Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out;
you formed me in my mother’s womb.
I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking!
Body and soul, I am marvelously made!
    I worship in adoration—what a creation!
You know me inside and out,
    you know every bone in my body;
You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit,
how I was sculpted from nothing into something.
    Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth;
all the stages of my life were spread out before you,
The days of my life all prepared
before I’d even lived one day

Thank you for your amazing encouragement today!!! I love your blog and I am so glad I found it 🙂

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Thank you for your encouragement to all of us today, Nichole! I am glad we found each other too! 🙂

  33. Love never fails! What a great reminder of HIS great love for me through any situation!

  34. Zephaniah… It speaks to my heart, specifically the idea that my God will quiet me with love, a real comfort to one prone to anxiety, and rejoice over me with singing… No one else will ever love me with that much joy over my mere existence. For God to love me that much… That is powerful and awe inducing.

  35. The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV)

I love this reminder that the Lord is always with me. After being married for 26 years my world fell apart and I truly felt like I was ” thrown” away but the Lord was with me and continues to be and not only that He delights in me. He will never “throw” me away. He truly delights in me! I can attest to this verse being true. The Lord was mighty and cared for me during that time of great pain and rejection and He continues to do that. Hold onto Him ladies He adores you!

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

I love your testimony, Kim! You are a brave woman. “He will NEVER throw us away!”

  36. Zephaniah 3:17 is becoming my new favorite Scripture of God’s love for me. Sometimes I get restless and unsettled in my heart in regards to my value or my looks, but then this verse reminds me that I can go to God and He will quiet my restless soul with His love. He delights in me and that brings peace to my heart and restores my joy.

  37. God makes all things beautiful.

We need to remember that means each of us.

  38. Ruby Butler says:

Zeph 3:17 Speaks to me. It is so amazing that God promises to be with me, takes great delight in me and will rejoice over me. I have not experienced any of those reactions from my earthly family. It is awesome that my creator feels these things for me.

  39. MIRANDA HIGH says:

Proverbs3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and never rely on what you think you know. Remember the Lord in EVERYTHING you do and He will shwo you the right way!

LIfe has been challenging due to choices I have made and just life in general, but this is my one verse I can recall over and over and cling to when I feel like I am too low to get up and go on.

  40. Zephaniah 3:17 always comforts me. To remember that God not only loves me; but that He rejoices over me and sings for me. This verse always personalizes God’s great love to me and reminds me that I am special in His eyes!

  41. I am going to print these verses out several times and give them to my daughters and post them around my home. Thank you for sharing.

  42. I like the part in Zephaniah where it says that God will sing over me. God singing over me just makes me feel loved and wanted for me.

  43. Jenny Rice says:

Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV). It’s comforting. I love the “he will quiet you with His love”.

  44. Joan Wussow says:

I was really blessed by the verse from the Song of Soloman. 4:7. You are all together beautiful my darling, there is no blemish in you. I had cystic acne which left deep scars on my face. Even though this verse speaks of no blemish in me, I still feel beautiful inside and out because the Lord says that I am.

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

AMEN!!! Joan – I can hear beauty in the confidence you share. Beauty that is more than skin deep – it is heart deep. I know that sounds cheesy at times, but a person can have all the world says to have on the outside and still not be beautiful. Gorgeous is more than a face in the mirror! YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!

  45. Wendy G. Bronson says:

Zephaniah 3:17 has been one of my favorites for years. I’ve shared it with many too. I really love that my God is mighty to save and He sings over me. I’ve often viewed that verse as a lullaby. How often do we lay in bed with our minds spinning. God sings over me. What a gracious and loving God we all serve!

  46. Marsha Sharp says:

Zephaniah 3:17 is one of my favorite verses! I have sung in Church choirs since I was 3 years old…I love music and it is my favorite mode of worshiping my Lord and Saviour! When I think of God rejoicing over me with singing it just makes me so happy and joyful! I am not worthy of His song on my own but through Him I am His child and the subject of His rejoicing and song! HE IS MIGHTY TO SAVE!

  47. Psalm 45:11 has always spoken to me. As a young girl who felt rejected and unloved by the world I felt ugly because acceptance in my world was based on outward appearances: good looks and great clothes. To know that God thinks I am beautiful has given me confidence to be who I am.

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Amen!!! God confidence is the only confidence that will stand when all else falls apart!

  48. “No greater love is this, than to lay one’s life down for a friend”-Jesus is the ultimate Lover and Friend!!! Nobody can compare!

  49. Eph. 1:5 – Adoption is a beautiful thing. I’m thankful he chose me!

  50. Two favorites: Zephaniah 3:17 & Ephesians 1:5 as I continuing grasping God’s love and delight for me; that He accepts me as family even when I don’t understand why my birth family does not.

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Oh Amanda, there is so much pain and heartache in this broken and fallen world. So much we don’t understand. We are thankful, though, for His word that He helps us to understand so that His truth will fill and heal our broken hearts. YOU ARE LOVED!

  51. Lacey Crews says:

I’ve been a Christian for almost ten years, and I still struggle with this: finding my worth in Christ, not who I’m dating. God loves us enough to make us co heirs with Christ!! That’s my favorite verse about his love and our worth to him. That blows my mind how he could love all of us that much while we consistently fail him.

  52. The Somgbof Solomon 4:7 verse speaks right to my heart! What a powerful message that we are perfect the way we are! What a powerful message that I will share with my young daughter now and as she continues to grow. My greatest hope for my daughter is for her to see herself as God created her fearfully and wonderfully made. I don’t think I believed that truth of myself growing up and it has impacted me into my adult life. Thank you for sharing these truths today!!

  53. Bonnie barrington says:

“The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV) This is so powerful to me right how and just what I needed to hear, I battle MS and am waiting for a life changing phone call this verse just confirms where my hope needs to be I would love it if you would pray for me

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Lord, YOU are with Bonnie. Just the thought, that the Almighty God, creator of the Universe and Jehovah-Rophe our healer is with us, empowers us. Fill Bonnie with your peace and hope. As you promise, meet her every need! Amen

  54. I love Zephaniah 3:17. What a beautiful reminder.

  55. Teresa Madden says:

I love all of the verses that you shared, but Zephaniah 3:17 is my favorite. Every time I read it, I am amazed at God’s love for me. He doesn’t just loves me, He rejoices over me with singing. Amazing how much He loves me.

  56. Isaiah 54: 5 For your Maker is your husband — the Lord Almighty is his name—the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth. This verse is my treasured verse since becoming a widow.

  57. “The king is enthralled by your beauty; honor him, for he is your lord.” Psalm 45:11 God spoke this verse to me when I was at one of the darkest places in my life. The last thing I felt was beautiful, I was not living a life that honored him. At a time when I felt like I had blown any chance I had with God, He spoke this verse over me and it made me realize that nothing that I had done had made the Lord see me as anything less than His beautiful princess. This realization took away my desire for the wordly way I had been living. I wanted to honor the person that had such unconditional love for me. I still find myself getting discouraged that God has not brought me a husband because that is such a desire of mine. When I see these verses, especially this one, I am reminded of the greatest Love there is. Thank you!

  58. SheilaAnn Larmie says:

“My Lover is mine and I am his”…
Jesus is the lover of my soul,. He is my husband, my provider, my sustenance, my everything. When I awake and when I lay to sleep, he comforts me with assurance that I am loved . He is with me always.

  59. “The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV) I needed this today. I’m so broken, and is all my fault, due to my choices, because I chose to believe the lie that I am unwanted. Thank you.

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

The beautiful thing, Stacie, is that He has promised to “cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!” Hebrews 9:14 I’ll share more on this verse on Monday. See you then 🙂

  60. This verse keeps coming up in my devotion time. I Peter 2:9 “But you are a chosen people a royal priesthood, a holy nation, Gods special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light”. Lots of promises in this verse of who I am and what God sees in me. Have had a lot of “Loss” the last several years through death and relationships “changing”. Low self-esteem and doubt has been a darkness that Gods light is shining through for me. I appreciated your thought above “any place where my mind had the opportunity to wander, I placed God’s word in its way”. That has been my pursuit! God is a faithful father and he pursues me and he has captured my heart. Thank you for your encouraging words and the above verses you shared. Blessings

  61. This was a great read. It reminded me that no matter what I am truly loved by my Father, and to me that’s all the love I’ll ever need. That’s good news!

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

YES, Pauline! The other loves in our lives are so important, but ultimately only His love can fill the cravings of our hearts to be fully and unconditionally loved!

  62. Song of Solomon 4:7 is a treasure. There is no blemish in me – because of Jesus! I am white as snow. God loves us that much!

  63. Chrissie Bernal says:

It is so refreshing to be reminded of Gods love. Thank you!

  64. “You are altogether beautiful, my darling, and there is no blemish in you.” Song of Solomon 4:7 (NASB) The entire time I was in junior high and high school I felt left out of everything. Completely. Your devotion could have been me. I tried too hard and ended up doing wrong things to fit in with the “IT” crowd. Just recently I felt the same crushed feeling again with people I thought were my true friends and I’m 52 years old and struggling in marriage and life in general. I feel alone, even though I know my God is with me. Hearing God’s word tell me I am beautiful and have no blemish makes me want to know more of that feeling. Being a Christian, I should know and trust that and yet I don’t. Thank you for God’s Word through yours today. They have given me encouragement.

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Kelly – we’re human. When we feel rejection from those we can touch and see it can create an obstacle to receiving love from the One we can’t touch and see. Just as we hear the voices of the people in our lives, we need to “hear His voice” on a continual basis. We’re told “faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.” I listen to His word all day long. In worship songs, podcasts, reading, praying. My heart seems to drain really quickly so I have to keep pouring truth back in!

  65. Jennifer Nixon says:

Zephaniah 3:17 is a great reminder. I need these types of reminders constantly because I will hear 100 good things and 1 bad thing and the only one that sticks is the bad one. I will replay the bad one over and over until I’m sure it’s true. I need to get closer to God and realize that what He says about me is what is true!

  66. Delores McPherson says:

Zephaniah 3:17 is my favorite. It brings back memories of holding my babies and singing over them. The thought of God holding me and singing over me brings such peace and comfort. I pray all would know this same peace and comfort and experience the fullness of Christ;s love. (ephesians 3:18)

  67. “The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV). This speaks volumes to me. Because latelyI have had many of my, “Why Can’t I Feel Your Love For Me, God” moments.

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

It is so true, Brenda. There are defiantly times when we don’t “feel” His love. I am so glad that during those seasons I have His love letters to remind me of His truth even when my emotions are not connecting with it.

  68. Always feeling like an unlovable soul, this area is the hardest for me to grasp and hold onto. I have been working very hard the last few weeks to stop the self destructive talk and start looking to God for the answer. Thank you for these five verses. I need them so much!

  69. “You are altogether beautiful, my darling, and there is no blemish in you.” Song of Solomon 4:7 (NASB)
this verse is dear to me and lets me know that we are perfect in God’s eyes while the world sees every spot or wrinkle and even ourselves tend to love at our flaws while God sees us as fearfully and wonderfully put together so intricately.

  70. Angela Caviness says:

“God decided in advance to adopt us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do and it gave him great pleasure!” Ephesians 1:5 (NLT)

  71. Personally, I love “I am my beloved’s and He is mine…” But I’ve always encouraged my middle school girls (I’m a teacher) to own the verse “the King is enthralled by your beauty!” Thank you for your insight!

  72. I have Zephaniah 3:17 printed out and hanging by my desk at work. I love that verse and it is a great reminder for me. The version I have reads “For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty warrior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs”.

I especially like the part where it states He will calm all your fears. I struggle with anxiety and being fearful at times, so that is a great reminder.

  73. Oh how I think I needed this today. Sometimes it is so easy to get caught up in our own little world, trying to figure out what those other people think of us, and sometimes just feeling so disconnected. I will have to make myself some notecards up as reminders for myself. Thank you for this bit today.

  74. Marit Fox says:

I like all the verses you note here. But, for me, the verse that speaks to my heart more than any other is Ephesians 1:6 “to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.” NKJV. The first time I read this and it pierced my heart, I felt fully accepted. From that point, people would cause hurt, rejection, pain and etc., it would not cut me to pieces because I knew I was accepted in the Beloved. Throughout my life, people would love me but I never felt fully accepted for who I am. Knowing Jesus gave me freedom to be me and feel accepted by someone. It radically changed my whole perspective on relationships.

  75. I like Zephaniah 3:17.

  76. It amazes me that God who put the stars in place would love little small me:) oh how adoring! My favorite verse which is comforting to me is Romans 8:38-39. For I am certain that nothing can separate us from His love: neither death nor life, neither angels nor other heavenly rulers or powers, neither the present nor the future, neither the world above nor the world below- there is nothing in all creation that will ever be able to separate us from the love of God which is ours through Christ Jesus our Lord. Wow, this would include rejection from others, divorce, adoption, and feelings of insecurity too. Our Awesome Lord loves us and no one can separate us from it! Dear ones He Lives and loves us. Let us all this day rest in His love.

    1. Rhonda,

I love those verses too. Nothing can separate us from our Savior’s love. Wow!

  77. Ursula Howard says:

    Lynn
Just what I needed at this time so very very much.

  78. Zephaniah 3:17 deffinately spoke to me. He will “quiet my spirit” means a lot to me. Espacially on those days of anxiety and worry.

  79. 1 John 4:19 – We love because he first loved us.

This verse is significant to me as a reminder that because of his great love, I am able to love. He showed us the ultimate love, through his sacrifice.

John 15:13 – Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

  80. Halona Luna says:

I have a lot of health issues and has presented me along with a lot of different hospital stays and procedures. My favorite is,
“The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV)
Knowing that I am in His protection is reassuring.

  81. I like “You are altogether beautiful, my darling, and there is no blemish in you.” Song of Solomon 4:7 – we are speaking in our ladies group about how Satan tries to deceive us and make us feel worthless or not good enough in whatever aspect he can, and how he is attacking our daughters with that same mindset. We need to draw the line in sand declaring that Satan is done and he will not prevail! We have God’s word to stand upon and not only pass that onto our daughters but make certain that they know the truth!

  82. I have about 10 cards with verses that calm my worries and anxieties and I always love reading them. The one I seem to attach to the most is Phillipians 4:6-7, it just calms me. Thanks for this article I will include these also.

  83. I think my favorite is the “classic” John 3:16. God loved Me (YOU)so much He sent his son to die for our sin.

  84. Jeannie Oleson says:

I’m in. Zephaniah is the verse I have chosen to help heal my heart. This has come at exactly the time I need it. I am trying to work through some deeply entrenched feelings of rejection. I pray that I can be the recipient of your book.
    Thank you. Jeannie

  85. I LOVE the Zephaniah verse as well because it says He will quiet me with His love. I often find my mind is like a hamster on his wheel, repeating negative self thoughts. The knowledge that God will quiet me with His love is of great comfort and encouragement.

  86. “The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV)

Love this verse. No matter the noise in our heads as a result of our doubts and our competitive society, God’s love trumps all and quiets these thoughts. It’s a great reminder to just sit quietly in His presence. Thank you for your blog! I was happy to be introduced to it through Proverbs 31.

  87. I suffered from self esteem issues. Even in relationships, there was always this fear that I wasn’t good enough in what ever I was doing. Even after I married a wonderful man, I still had this fear. It was a fear that even though he loves me for me, I am still not good enough for him. I also started a job was totally out of my current experience level. Each day I came in to work afraid that I wasn’t good enough to do what they needed. Last year during a church service, the ushers handed out cards. Each business card had one of 5 bible verses on it. The were randomly placed in a basket and you were supposed to just reach in and grab one. The card I pulled had 2 Timothy 1:7 : ” I have not been given the spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind. ”

This verse is kept on my desk at work as a reminder that no matter what, I should not fear anything. God put me where I am because I am needed there. I am not perfect, but with God’s help, I can achieve success in everything.

  88. “You are altogether beautiful, my darling, and there is no blemish in you.” Song of Solomon 4:7 All my life I’ve been told how beautiful I am but never believed it. I could only see the blemish resulting from rejection. Satan has formed a stronghold in me that has recently been broken & this verse ensures me of how much God unconditionally loves me & has formed me to be the beautiful person that I am. He’ll never leave me or forsake me & there is no greater feeling of security than what God has promised me. Thank you for posting this scripture! Exactly what I needed to “hear” today!

  89. Zepheniah 3:17 has spoken to me lately. Not only is my God mighty to save, but He chooses to sing over me and cover me with love. Just as I sing to my previous babies at night, my lord sings over me. This devotion brought tears to my eyes. I’ve been saved nearly 10 years but all those memories of being in school and never feeling wanted, it’s still painful. But praise God I don’t live there any more. Thank you for sharing.

  90. Zephaniah 3:17 also struck a chord within my spirit. It is amazing that God takes great delight in me and will quiet me with His love. Even more so that He will rejoice over me with singing. The verse brought a vision of a Father who has a beloved daughter and how His care and love became apparent to her. This verse can shield me from the attack of the enemy when he accuses me of not being good enough in others’ eyes and helps me reflect on how my God will protect and give me with His quiet love. Thanks for the encouraging verses and the practical way to be transformed into the image of Christ.

  91. I so needed this today. I will be writing Zephaniah 3:17 and Psalms 45;11 down and packing them with me.

  92. You are altogether beautiful, my darling, and there is no blemish in you.” Song of Solomon 4:7 (NASB) today is my 33rd birthday and as I get older I have to remember beauty is not on the outside but what comes from the heart, a persons character says a lot! all women are beautiful at every stage in life. I don’t want to live in the past always thinking of my youth at 25 but thank God I’ve made it this far and so thankful for the blessings along the way. I am thankful for my two beautiful daughters awesome husband and the joy the Lord provides in his word. May all women who hold their faith in the Lord share his love with those who need it.

  93. I believe you were in my head this morning. Even If we don’t receive a flower, card or any other worldly token I know that “Jesus, I am Yours, You are mine. As you wrote today “Thank you for loving me and filling my heart exactly what I wanted – to be wanted.” Thank you for my refreshed outlook at being reminded that the things of this world do not determine the comfort of Gods love for us.

  94. Zephaniah 3:17 is very dear to me. The Lord is “a victorious warrior” not just over Satan and evil, but over my rebellious heart. “He will quiet you in His love” has been so true for me for the past 17 years, since I became a Christian. For 46 years, I felt unloved and rejected, my father being very unemotional, and my mother actually telling me constantly to go away and play when all I wanted was to be with her and be loved by her. My dad passed away never having said that he loved me. After my mom passed away, one of my aunts informed me that my mom never had wanted me. After high school, I went from lover to lover, and actually from husband to husband (I so identify with the woman at the well). When I was in my mid 20’s, I actually had an ‘experience’ with Jesus, and I knew then that He was pursuing me (I love the title of your book). Even though I desperately desired His love, I still went the other direction because I felt so unworthy of it. Finally, 26 years after my ‘experience’ with Him, “He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay, and He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God” (Psalm 40:2-3). Your devotional today brought me to tears of joy with the reminder that “I am His,” and I definitely related to your blog today. Thank you so much for both!

  95. “The king is enthralled by your beauty; honor him, for he is your lord.” Psalm 45:11
Loved it! To think the King of Kings loves each of us this much, a wretch like me?! What an honor

  96. My favorite is Jeremiah 29:11 – I know the plans I have for you. Plans for your welfare and not your harm to give you a good purpose. (I’m going from memory so that might not be exactly right but pretty close). A very second close favorite is Romans 8:38-39 which is my go to when I need to feel God’s love.

  97. I also like Zephaniah 3:17. I copied it in my journal of favorite Bible verses. He is our Lord and Savior. He gives you complete joy and His love will calm your fears. I also like Psalm 63:3 ” Because Your steadfast love is better than life my lips will praise You.”

  98. “God decided in advance to adopt us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do and it gave him great pleasure!” Ephesians 1:5 (NLT)

This verse really speaks to my heart right now because we have been talking a lot about adoption lately in our family. My husband is about to adopt my 15 yr old daughter who’s father, my ex, died last year in a car accident. On Tuesday we’re going to the courthouse to make it official! But no one knows yet except here.

  99. I would love to have this book. And then share with our daughter. I AM loved!! Loved unconditionally, forever and always!!

  100. Pat Quesenbury says:

Love the TRUTH in these verses . . . so comforting!

  101. Danielle Robinson says:

I love Ps 45:1 that God (The King) is enthralled with us. Especially when we are so often enthralled by others.

One of my favorite passages is Ps. 139:13-14 He didn’t just throw us together, He took the time to create each one of us, and we are fearfully and wonderfully made. I’m trying to reinforce this now with my middle school pre-teen.

  102. “The Lord will fight for you; you need only be still.” Exodus 14:14 This verse is really speaking to me right now and reminds me that He is fighting for me and I need to trust that and rest.

  103. I love the Zephaniah verse!

  104. Katie Johnson says:

I like Song of Salomon 2:15a. Something the Lord had been doing in me recently is drawing me deeper into His love. This verse is a good one to meditate on!

  105. Zeph. My God delights in me! He rejoices over me. His love can settle me and bring peace no matter what is going on.

  106. “The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV)
This is one of my favorite verses

  107. Tiffany Harper says:

The verse from Song of Solomon speaks to me. That sense and knowledge of BELONGING to Him and He to me. To be loved that strongly is a desire all women have and since my divorce, this is a great reminder that I wasn’t “thrown away” by the ONE that really matters.

  108. Jennifer Abbott says:

Song of Solomon 4:7. Years of boys who are mean from junior high through college can leave a woman feeling ugly. I’m so thankful for my husband who tells me I’m beautiful and for God’s word reminding me of it.

  109. Bobbi Wineberg says:

One of my verses for last year was Zephaniah 3:17. I love that verse and also Ephesians 2:10. “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.” Like a poster I remember seeing a lot, God didn’t make any junk; instead He’s painting my portrait and will continue to work on it until He gets it right, not me.

  110. Zephaniah 3:17is one of my most encouraging verses I cling to since I struggle with insecurity and so I continuily try to keep a verse in mind to remind me of Gods love for me – thank you for your blog and words of encouragement –

  111. “The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17

After being rejected so much in life, it is awesome to know that He delights in me! To quiet me with His love….the words are so…I don’t know the words to say, but there is no greater joy than the love of God.

Thank you for the love verses….especially at this time of the year.

  112. The verse from Zephaniah makes me think of a child crawling up in a parent’s lap when the parent is sitting in a rocking chair and the child is upset about something or just wants to be held, The parent starts to crone over the child, singing a lullaby or a hymn or something gentle. How comforting and peaceful that is. Since God is my Father and I am His child there are times I need His rocking chair of love to find comfort and the strength to go on.

  113. Maureen Barnett says:

    Psalm 45:11

I am Blessed to have A God and My Husband who Love me! My Husband and I have been through a lot together and we have overcome with God and much Prayer!

  114. CJ Samonds says:

Song of Solomon definitely has been my verse for years. However, it hurts to think about it now. My husband left me & our kids months ago & the feelings of rejection are overwhelming. I want to know Jesus’s love like never before.

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Jesus, the rejection we experience from people overwhelms our soul at times. Please meet pour Your presence all over CJ. Let her to fill her heart with Your love to bring healing and restoration. Amen

  115. I recently have been reciting declarations daily out loud, a task assigned by my small group bible study leader. One of the declarations is from Romans 5.5 “For I know how dearly God loves me, because he has given me the Holy Spirit to fill my heart with his love.” It is powerful to speak these verses out loud despite how we may be feeling as our words give life!

  116. Anna sheets says:

I know there are many deserving people, whom this book will benefit. I ask to be considered also, as my husband just presented a document requesting a separation along with some other letters that have created a space I want God to fill and not the enemy. In all things God is faithful, even with my heart. Please consider this, and lift a prayer for a very confusing broken relationship that may or may not be able to made ehole. I’m praying also and asking for prayer that either way God makes me whole. Thank you❤️

  117. I have had a difficult over twenty year history with an illness that was diagnosed finally in 1997 and the next year I was forced to retire from a career sooner than I thought I would need to. I was so angry at God and felt so let down. What did I expect? I guess when I decided as an adult at the age of 41 that I would graduate at the age 45 after being out of college for more than 23 years and teach school and finally finish what I had started at the age of 21 an be an educator forever.

God had other plans it seems. I wanted to stay but my body had gotten too weak to stand at the blackboard, I was teaching at a small table in a Special Ed. room of 12 students and loving it no matter how hard it was. I loved them and they loved me. I fought hard for them. They had so many learning and life disabilities-broken homes, abuse, neglect, parents who seemed not to care. I became on a first name and she knew my voice on the phone. The local protector for the students that if they needed help I called her and they got whatever help they needed.

Sometimes I thought it would never end. It as so unfair, kids should feel safe in their homes, not fear parents, parents boyfriends. I became their constant protector. When I resigned I took their lives and nightmares home with me. For months my husband would wake me and say, “It’s okay, whomever is alright, someone is there for them now.” I would cry and beg God to protect them each day and night.

Now I am much older and keep having more health issues. I just have to ask God to now take care and protect me with each new illness, hospitalization and feel so alone. But I not, “I am His and He is mine. He will keep me safe. He will never leave me nor forsake me.” He’s my best friend, my advocate and protector.” Thanks for always loving me Jesus. Mary Kaiser

  118. nancys1128 says:

I love Psalm 139, the whole thing, for reminding me how much I am loved by the One who matters the most.

  119. Ever since I was little it’s always been John 3:16 🙂

  120. It’s hard to admit to hurt feelings and insecurities that have entered into my life pushing forty much the same as they did in Jr. High, and I’m learning to lean into Him for everything and not let the worldly hurts get to me. He wants me to depend on him. To turn to him in trouble and hurts. Not an easy lesson. Thank you for this post today. It was just what I needed.

  121. “You are altogether beautiful, my darling, and there is no blemish in you.” Song of Solomon 4:7 (NASB) This verse is beautiful and resonates with me the most. I would love a copy of this book for myself and my beautiful young daughter.

  122. catherinebrown says:

jOHN 14; 1. Let not your heart be troubled. The teaching today is what I have been dealing with all my life.At 53 i want it to get it from my head to my heart. Then and only then change will come.Even though I know this.I struggle in renewing my mind.

  123. “God decided in advance to adopt us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do and it gave him great pleasure!” Ephesians 1:5 (NLT)

  124. This is what he wanted to do and it gave him great pleasure. He could have created anything, done anything and yet he chose us and delights in us. Powerful.

  125. I Love all of those verses, but am currently feeling most blessed by the idea that He delights in me. 🙂

  126. Zephaniah 3:17! That all powerful God that can save me, loves me and loves me so much that He delights in me! That is powerful. Thanks for sharing those verses!

  127. Brittney B says:

I’m currently awake after putting my daughter to sleep and glancing at my husband sound asleep….I’m still up thinking and thinking. My thoughts and feeling have been all over the place and it’s times like this I feel distant from God, by no means am I perfect I struggle everyday with finding my true purpose. For the past few days there have been glimps of God and not my normal routine of sitting with him and really getting lost with scripture and just telling him how I feel. Over and over again in my head I’ve been saying I’m not good enough for God because of this or I’m not good enough for God because of that. So today it really hit me about how much does God really loves me. I know he does without a shadow of doubt but this past month somehow I feel like I just don’t measure up. Feeling too emotionally and physically exhausted to get out of bed to grab my devotional, I searched the web and I found you and your amazing blog! And the scripture of the day which happens to be one I’m trying to fight through..I’ve gone so far to ask my husband if God has favorites ??. Songs of Solomon 2:15 was exactly what I needed in this moment, at this time I think this scripture will for sure be a favorite. A simple yet strong reminder that God loves us and I am wanted and loved. Something so sure yet I seem to lost with doubt. Thank you for your hard work God is truly working through you. I truly felt awesome after this at 11:00 at night.

    1. Lynn Cowell says:

Brittney – isn’t God amazing? Helping us to find Him in the most unlikely places and the most unlikely ways!

  128. Kim Waguespack says:

Zephaniah 3:17–I love that God sings over me.

  129. Zephaniah 3:17 but really all of them. Lately though I struggle believing that it is true for me personally. Experiencing rejection by 2 of our children crushes me.

  130. Going through a divorce is tough. I know now my security and love needed can be found in Him. But some days are easier than others. This sound like a great book.

  131. Tracy Horst says:

That God takes “great delight” in me, that is almost too much to fathom! But I want to believe it!

  132. I am often dealing with feelings of rejection. I know that God loves me but sometimes the lack of human acceptance is overwhelming. I think this book would be great for me.

  133. I am starting to learn more about God, i am taking my first bible study. Thank you for these verses. I am going to write them on index cards and take them with me.

  134. Marlichia Pugh says:

“The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV)

  135. Zephaniah 3:17 has always been a favorite verse. It hung over my toilet in college as a reminder for my roommates and I that we are cherished and adored. Fast forward 15 years later, I pray that verse over my 3 daughters, hoping that they will always find their strength and value in Christ.

  136. Fred Holt says:

“Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not yet been made known what we shall be. But we know that when He appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” 1 John 3:2
This comforts and challenges for the promise, the confidence and the hope.
When all seems worst, when I fail, remember failures and feel down, the KNOWLEDGE that I am His, loved because He is Love, because I am his, nothing else matters.

  137. “You are altogether beautiful, my darling, and there is no blemish in you.” Song of Solomon 4:7 (NASB)
At 60 years old, I needed to hear this. This is definitely a reminder that the negative self-talk about changes that occur as we age is like telling our Father that how he created me is not up to par.

  138. I’m in – and I have a friend whose serious need to begin thinking again about how much God loves her the way she is became painfully clear as I heard of her seemingly insurmountable marital problems this weekend. The book would go to her.

  139. Joyce Adams says:

Ephesians 1:5. God decided IN ADVANCE to adopt us and it gave Him great pleasure! Before we existed ! That just blows me away. What Love! Adopt means to take someone from their natural birth family and bring them into yours as your own. What more can you say except to Praise Him!!

  140. Lindsey Stevens says:

It wasn’t one particular verse that spoke to me but one word; “great.” In Zephaniah He takes great delight in me. in Ephesians it gave Him great pleasure. I don’t know that I have ever felt great to anyone. That is amazing. Thank you for sharing these verses!

  141. Amber Huels says:

“The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17
I’m so thankful Proverbs 31 Ministries has led me to your blog!

  142. the shadow of doubt likes to creep in and cloud my view sometimes. i grew up in a large family we went to church and all that but my dad was crazy controlling and abusive mentally and emotionally his words would cut like a knife. everyone always thought he was so cool. nothing was ever good enough and we never worked hard enough. everything was always wrong. most of my older sibling turned away from church while i pushed twords it dragging my little sister and brother with me because our refuge was at our church. the one thing that was constant was Christ for us. i love the verse “You are altogether beautiful, my darling, and there is no blemish in you.” Song of Solomon 4:7 it reminds me that others opinions and words have no weight. its refreshing and encouraging

  143. The fact that God rejoices over me with singing appeals to my music-loving heart.
The fact that He is enthralled with my beauty makes my way-less-than-perfect-body feel very loved.

  144. The “He is mighty to save” part of the Zephaniah verse always gets me. When I sing that line in church, I get this overwhelming feeling, like numbness and peace mixed together.

  145. “My beloved is mine, and I am his. ~ Song of Solomon 2:16.

How reassuring to know I’m his and he’s mine!!!

  146. I’m in! I posted already but there was no response so I thought I better add this to let you know the adoption went through today and I’m going to give this gift to my daughter!

  147. I like the verse Joshua 24:15 “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” I recited this part of the verse to someone yesterday. As a young child I memorized several verses and this phrase from Joshua 24:15 is one of them.
