Verses Every Person Needs to Know

God’s word is filled with the prescriptions we need each and every day!
Here are just a few of the prescriptions I take on a regular basis:
Isaiah 30:15
“…in quietness and trust is your strength..” (NIV)
This one is particularly important to me as it hangs in my kitchen. Don’t you know that I often need to be quiet and trust God in the room in which most family drama stirs up!
Psalm 52:8
“But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever.” (NIV)
This one also hangs in my kitchen. I have to remind myself constantly that the only place I can put my trust is in the Lord’s unfailing love for me! This can keep me from riding too high or too low on the roller coaster of life…His consistent love!
Ezekiel 36:26 reminds me:
“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” (NIV)
This picture hangs at the foot of my bed; it is the first thing I see when I wake up. The last line of it says: “This is not the end of the story.” When you have a loved one you are praying for, it is important to remind yourself continually that God is the one who writes our stories. He is the one who gives new hearts and new spirits; who turns stony hearts to soft ones.
As you can see, I take many of my prescriptions through my eyes because I am a visual learner. You might take your’s through your ears, listening to God’s word through a Bible app on your device or worship music. The important thing is not how you take it, but being sure to take it!

I took Mariah to a Naturopathic doctor, who tested her using non-evasive methods. In less than an hour, we knew exactly what was bothering her body: wheat, milk, sugar, millet and spelt. My favorite way to get into God’s word each day is to just have quiet time; to do my daily bible reading. I have been digging into the Word more and more lately and really taking time to study and learn how to apply it to my life.
I do thank God for your this ministry. I have just read a few things on this page and see the need for engagement in the word. I desire to know the Lord the more.

I love to get into God’s word most days of the week, but I also hang Scripture in the form of wall hangings around my house. In my kitchen, I have “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” I Corinthians 10:31 It helps remind me to consider my responses when the drama of my three girls ensues in the family meeting room! It also reminds me that chococlate is not the answer, (sometimes I find forget to read it though!)
Psalm 46:1 (KJV) God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Is one of my prescriptions of strength since I suffer from multiple health problems.
Psalm 27.1 (AMP) : The Lord is my Light and my Salvation – whom shall I fear or dread? The Lord is the Refuge and Stronghold of my life of whom shall I be afraid?. This is my prescription whenever I am in trouble.
I recently (last night) felt extremely deflated by a situation and exchange of words that left me feeling uncherished by my husband. I did not sleep well,woke early and found comforting words that put my feelings in perspective Psalm 119:165 Great peace have they which love Thy law: and nothing shall offend them. I wish I had read these words before I went to bed….I would have slept! Reading your prescriptions this morning led me to find just what I neded. Thanks….and Thank God!
Nehemiah 8:10. The joy of the Lord is your strength. When we feel down, dejected and sad, we can rejoice because the JOY of the Lord is our strength. The Spirit helps us in our weakness.
Romans 12:10 ❤ be devoted to one another in love,honor others above yourselves. Just one reminder to be humble
Ezekiel. 36:26 has always been on my list of favorite verses, but my go to verse that comes to mind when i need to settle down and just listen is… Be still, and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10a. I too am a more visual person. Having ADHD makes it difficult to read and stay focused let alone remember what i read so visual works best for me. I loved your devotion today. I refer to Sunday as my Main meal for the week with each days devotion being my spiritual vitamins throughout the week and our Wednesday night bible study at church my spiritual booster shot to give me that added boost in the middle of my week. Oh and i also passed on your site to my sister telling her about your Revolutionary Love articles and calendar to use with her little girl as she gets older. Right now this is a Scripture verse I run to daily:
Matthew 11:28-30
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
As our family is going through a daily struggle with a 17 year old daughter who is in full rebellion mode and has been for about 7 years now. The path of destruction as her freedoms have pulled more and more people into her web of destruction, is growing larger and larger. It has definitely taken a toll on our entire family and we are exhausted in every way.

I loved the picture. I am a visual person also. The picture makes me think of how Jesus looks into our hearts and sees all that is going on. My go to verse has always been Proverbs 3:5,6 Thrust in the Lord with ALL your heart and lean not on your OWN understanding; In ALL your ways acknowledge him, and he will make YOUR paths straight.

That’s the verse I’ve been meditating on each day recently since I have been feeling as of I’m not sure what I’m doing lately. I ask God for guidance because only he knows what needs I have in my life. The things that happen in life happen for a reason. All is in the power of Almighty God and I must have faith and trust in Him.
Psalm 145:18 The LORD is nearto all who call on Him, to all who call upon Him in truth.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
This verse frequently comforts me when things appear to be “circling the drain” in my life. It reminds me that I don’t know why things happen…but God does! I just need to rest in the knowledge that everything will be just as it should be in the end.

My favorite way to get my daily “prescription” of God is the drive to school in the mornings with my Kindergarden and 1st grade boys. The car is the perfect place to pray and really talk to God. I get to hear their hearts open up to him as we’ll as me being able to share with them praises and prayers that our family need to lift up. With Summer vacation almost here, I am going to start thinking of a new “routine” for our Bible time for the summer. Thank you for your post!

PS: Karen g- I am adding you to my prayer list. I remember being a teenage girl who thought I knew better then everyone else. I can not imagine the struggle you are going thought, but God does and will equip you to be the Mom your daughter needs. Prayers being sent your way as well as for your daughter.
Philippians 4:13: “I am able to do all things through him who gives me strength.” Joshua 1:9 – ” Have I not given you your orders? Take heart and be strong; have no fear and do not be troubled; for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Whenever I feel insecured about the future, when I lack confidence or sad, I remember these words and repeat them to myself. Jesus is with all the time. Sometimes God bri gs be to words without me looking for them. Its amazing.
Romans 8:37-39 tells us that we have complete victory through Jesus and there is nothing that can ever separate us from God’s love. NOTHING
My favorite way to take my prescription is through praise music. Right now, my favorite group is Jesus Culture. Their music is powerful and puts me in the proper mindset to praise Him. Plus, when I am having a bad or stressful day, it puts my spirit at peace. I am also a member of my church’s worship team so practice and services I am filled with praise music that I sing all week long. I can’t think of a better way to get my daily prescription!
Psalm 34:7 – Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart!

I am moving past the struggle to see myself throught God’s eyes. I didn’t even realize that was what I struggled with until I began the study “Breaking Free” Highly recomend it!

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you…”
This was my go-to verse in college when I was struggling with what my future would look like. Now it reminds me that He also knows the plans for my children – even when I think I know best!
I am 30 and have 3 boys small boys 5, 3, and 4 months. I often feel like I fall short in showing them God’s unconditional and patient love. Lately I repeat under my breath Psalm 103:8 “The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.” It help me take a breath before I react or respond. This is my prescription.
I have verses hanging all around my kitchen! This helps me see certain verses daily since there are lots of dishes & other cleanup:) I post promises but I also post verses that help me work on sin areas. of my life. For instance I need to have more control over my tongue & spirit so I posted
Prov 25:28 “He who has no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down & without walls.”
When I need to know God is with me,cares & takes my burdens as HIS own I recite (or sing the chorus) 1Peter 5:8 I cast all my cares on Him for He cares for you. A great thing to do with the 1Peter verse is insert your own name. Doing that really helps the verse to become personal. I always come to Romans 15:13. That’s my go to verse when I need to slow down.

Repetition. I read proverbs31.org daily devotion each day, re-read bible verses from Christian material I am currently reading. Especially the verses in which I have made significant, life-changing notes next to. (For example; Made to Crave, Lysa Terkeurst) And I listen to an hour of Christian radio programming (Family Life Today and Focus on the Family) on my way to work and on my headset at work. Not because I’m being legalistic with this structure/repetition but b/c unknowingly it has quietly imprinted my heart, mind, spirit, and physical body. I feel like the “light bulb” has gone on inside. The “a-ha” moment of finally getting how critical it is to invite Jesus into every moment of everyday of your life with his words of truth. When my mind starts spiraling down, I am finally able to speak, listen, and act in His truths. Daily devotions and Christian material used to be more like “feel good” moments for me. But they were extremely fleeting! Bottom line, it isn’t hard to daily invite Jesus into every moment and live in each moment with Him. I’m starting to crave him more and more all throughout my day. Your proverbs31 Daily Devotion was such a HUGE affirmation for me today. Thank you!
Phillipians 4:11-13 is my reminder of where my strength comes from, and that I can do nothing without Him. And sometimes I try, and oh what I mess I can make!
This devotional was so freeing, thank you. While I was one to spend an hour or so in the word before getting out of bed; this season of life does not afford me that time. I’ve been beating myself up thinking devotionals and worship music just were not enough. I really miss hanging out with God in His Word the way I used to.
Psalm 46:10 Be still and know that I am God…..
I love Psalm 37:4 and 5! Delight yourself in the Lordand He will give you the desires of your heart; Commit your way to The Lord, Trust in Him and He will act!

The one verse I have always gone back to is Phil 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. It’s my encouragement verse for myself and for others.
I also tend to sing praise and requests to God through my favorite worship songs, so many to lean on for different needs!
And lately, finally realizing how visual I am, I’ve started writing reminder verses on sticky notes and posting them in odd places to make me stop, think and pray!
For me? Psalm 18:1 …I love you Lord; you are my strength. (NLT). The Lord sends us people to be His strength for us, but when no one shows up? I must fully rely on Him and his true Word.
My Prescription verse is Jeremiah 29:11, for I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord,they are plans of good and not disaster to give you a future and a hope, also Psalm 138:8, The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me. I recite these verses daily to myself aloud. They remind me that regardless of my circumstances and situations that Im dealing with the Lord still has a good plan for my life , regardless of what happens this is not the end and hes perfecting everything about me or that has to do with me.
2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
Isaiah 43:18-19 NIV 1984. Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.
Psalm 143:8 ~ “Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I life up my soul.”
I recite that almost every morning before the demands of the day set in. It’s a way of saying “Good morning Lord! Where are YOU taking me today? I’m here to follow.”
I do the Proverbs 31 devotions every morning. The Lord has been doing a work in me in the past year. I’m just sitting back & enjoying the ride. 🙂
One of my favorite’s is Philippians 4:13 – For I can do everything Through Christ who gives me strength. Your devotion today is just what I needed to read today. I have a granddaughter that is being raised in a non-Christian home. My husband and I are trying to do our best to see that she gets to church and do activities with a Christian base.
I have sometimes felt “broken” as a girl because I just don’t get fashion and make-up the traditionally girly things so I love the verse that says I’m ok because the King is enthralled with me!
I grew up in a catholic home, Mom took the kids to church, Dad said he prayed while he worked. There was a prayer before supper. Sunday school ended when I was in 2 nd grade. The only thing different raising my kids was I made them continue Sunday school til after they were confirmed, everything else was they same. Now they are the ones, and even my crandchildren are all showing me how important God is in their lives! I am so thankful. Things are just awful in my marriage, I don’t know what to do! My son got me going to church again, I listen to Christian music all the time, I pray then pray some more…I’m not sure that I know how to pray, but sometimes when I do I feel a beautiful calm come over me that gives me an amazing peace, God is with me, I just pray that He is with my husband so that he will make the choice to be back and want our marriage to be forever again! Since I never really was taught much Bible anything and am just getting back to God, I am loving to read and absorb everything I am finding! Thank you all for sharing! I need it all!

I love the Psalms and go to them often. Ps. 37 is wonderful when life is spinning out of control. It reminds us that God is still in control and that we can trust him. Thank you for your devotional…Proverbs 31 devos have become part of my daily quiet time and are so encouraging. 🙂

The verse God has given me for 2013 is Philippians 4:7–“And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” How I have needed that!
So encouraged to read everyone’s postings and seeing how God’s word is a steadfast anchor. Isaiah 55:8 NIV “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways” declares the Lord is the verse that always comes into my vision. This verse I so uplifting given that my thought process is filled with so much negativity and doubt.
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Philippians 4:8 is a wonderful reminder to me to refocus my thoughts on God’s truth!

This one really helped the lonely, sleepless nights.

I lost my job yesterday and was feeling really low until I picked up my head and remembered the words from Jeremiah 29:11.. For I know the plans I have for you says the Lord. Plans not to harm you but to give you hope and a future. So I know there is something far better for me out there. In the meantime I am leaning on his everlasting promises to keep me and my family going everyday.

This prescription has the words my heart needed to hear. My daughter has autism and can’t put her thoughts into words, which has me impatient some times. Being quiet and trusting in HIS strength truly helps me remember it’s all about glorifying HIM. Thank You Lord and thank you Lynn for sharing these verses with us.

I have a 40 minute commute every morning, and every evening. I try to use that ‘Me’ time to pray, and I also have it tuned into worship music, 88.5 KLJC Kansas City, where they share not only great music, but also bible tracks, and uplifting stories throughout. It just makes me feel closer to God, and also keeps my mind in a positive place! That is where I found Proverbs 31, and all that they have to offer – – What a blessing! One of my favorite ‘perscriptions’ is Isaiah 26:3, “You will keep in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because she trusts in YOU.” I have this written at my desk at work, as well as it ‘posts’ at the end of every e-mail I send to encourage others! I am always strengthened & encouraged from the daily articles in Encouragement for Today and Girlfriends in God. Also, I am presently doing a Bible Study on the book of Proverbs. I am very much handicapped without a Bible since I lost mine two months ago. Upon reading that you are giving away a Bible, I jumped at the thought that maybe it is through you that I can have a replacement.

I can feel your pain, Lynn. I have had the same symptoms as your daughter and had testing for celiac disease. Once diagnosed, I am now gluten-free for over 7 years! These words have been my saving grace:

Romans 8:28 has sustained me throughout the many difficulties I have experienced in this life. I am now 65. I accepted Christ at the age of 28 and the Lord has not failed to keep one of His precious promises. He sustained me through the death of my husband when my children were only one and six, 12 years later, he sustained me through a nasty divorce when I learned that the man to whom I had remarried was not the minister he claimed to be, but a wolf in sheep’s clothing, he has sustained me since that time as I remained a single mom and raised my three children alone with God as my Husband. He continues to sustain me as I seek to do His will and minister to the least of these as an addictions’ counselor. He has indeed used all things in my life to develop me, shape me into His image and comforted me so that I may comfort others in the same way that He has comforted me. He continues to teach me total dependence on Him and speaks to me during my daily quiet times where I try to practice Psalm 46:10. He has brought me a long way and I still have much to learn and to change. He is faithful and completes what he has started. He and His Word are everything to me.

The verses that gets me through some of the roughest times in my life can be found in Matthew 11:28-30. It reads, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. verse 29: Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. verse 30: For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” These words of our Lord Jesus Christ always give me strength to go on. I have been re-reading these verses from my heart for the last 47 years and they haven’t failed me yet.

For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
Life vs. even more life- how can I lose? No matter where I go or what I do, I have peace here and security forever. Better than a prescription. 🙂

I have had some real health struggles for the last year. I have seen several doctors, but there was some conflicting opinions. I have tried to control things as much as possible. I have done my own research and developed my own conclusions. I struggled with doing things the ” right” way to bring healing. I have finally went to God, thru His Word and prayer and asked Him to show me what I need to know. He gave me Proverbs 3: 7-8 “Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.” Whenever I find myself trying to take control, I am reminded of this verse. I love the idea of taking God’s word like a prescription. He has shown me, that He needs to be my source of healing.
I try to read my bible for a short period of time each morning and night. I lik that I have a bible app on my phone and can access it while I am waiting for the kids to get out of school, waiting in line at the grocery store, at the doctors office etc. The best is that when I am driving and the kids are bored, I can hand my phone to them and also let them catch up on reading the bible!

Psalm 9:9 (The Message)
Last August my husband of 27 years was cheating and left for a new woman. At that point in my life I was devastated, angry and depressed. I immediately started going to counseling and a divorce care group at a local church. I have been a christian for years, but like many, I had my priorities mixed up and had been putting my work and daily busy activities over God. My dear friend gave me a copy of the Jesus Calling Devotional from Sarah Young and it has made me really KNOW that Jesus loves me. I would recommend this devotional to everyone! Through my trial and deeper relationship with the Lord one thing really stuck out which was God telling me to BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD! I constantly have to remind myself to slow down and not only read the word but to be still and listen to what HE has to say to me! In this fast paced world we live in…..time is what God wants! The verse that encourages me day after day is John 10:28…nothing shall ever snatch me out of His hand. Recently I gave my life back to God. I struggle with Bipolar and addiction issues. I would go to church and then when I fell back I would run from church and God. This scripture is so true for me today. I know that He has me in the palm of His hand and I have surrendered to Him and He is giving me the power to say no to what disappoints Him. God’s grace is sufficient and I will always remain in His hands.
Each morning I follow a read the Bible in a year concept. As I read it I pick out words that stand out to me and then I write how it applies to me today. I then write out a prayer asking God to help me to apply whatever He is teaching me through His word.
A friend of mine just told me about your site. This is the first time that I have been on here. I hope to learn alot as I continue to read through it. So far it has blessed and encouraged me.

My favorite prescription from God is Matthew 6:25-34 Which are the verses on Worrying. I have had to read these passages so many times that I can almost recite them from memory. I have a weakness when it comes to worrying about the things in my life instead of doing what God says and letting it go. I have to let God have control and it is a faith step. I have to have more faith. That is just it. When I am faithful and lean not on my own understanding and let Him take away the worry things turn out so much better. I have to more than give over the worry to Him but I also have to do it with faith in knowing that He has to be in control and what I want to happen in my life has to also be in accordance to His will and in His time or not one second of my planning and praying is going to do me any good. I am so blessed with His grace and love and when I do these things I am blessed a hundred fold. I hate the anxiety and the stomach aches and the constant nagging in my mind when I worry. So now I am doing the daily devotions through you and Proverbs31.org site and I am doing so much better for so many things because I have taken the time to start my day in Gods word with you all. Thank you for all that you do to ensure that we have somewhere to go to access Gods word daily and that you set up studies for us to follow and learn. I know Gods hands are in this ministry just from what I have been able to take away from it. Thank you all and God bless you all. ~Beverly

Lynn, I appreciated your devo and your words here as well! Proverbs 3:5-6 is one that God repeatedly brings to my attention and uses in powerful ways. During trials Romans 5:3-5 is one I cling to and reminds me there is a purpose for the pain!
My favorite prescription verses are ones that I pair together… “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” -Ezekiel 36:26(NIV) and “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'” -Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) … I had a horrible childhood that very easily can turn me into a horrible person. So, when I feel like throwing in the towel and giving in to the anger that bubbles inside of me sometimes or when I am in the throws of depression and PTSD and struggle to even get out of the bed, I take God’s prescription and remember His promises that He will give me a new spirit and take from me my stoney heart, because He has great plans for me. Plans to prosper me and not harm me. Plans to give me hope and a future.

Hi Lynn, I’m a mother of 3 grown up girls now and I wish I had this book to give to them when they were teenagers. I have a granddaughter now that is almost 4 and I will make sure she has this book when the time comes. I have always felt empty myself and needed the love of a man growing up. A good reminder when things don’t seem “fair” and when life seems too hard. We can always hold tight to Him no matter what is going on in our lives. What an amazing love He has for each one of us! So thankful!
I like to read the “Encouragement for Today” posts and daily devotionals online to start my day off focused on what really matters. I am a mommy to two little girls under 4 years old and a wife to a handsome, hardworking self-employed husband. Life can seem so stressful at times, and it never fails that when I pray to the Lord for help, He finds a way to touch my heart and helps me see the bigger picture, encouraging me to persevere and to become a better wife and mother through the struggles. Prayer and scripture saves me daily! 🙂

I’ve had the same bible since I became a believer 15 years ago. Not that I don’t like my bible but it would be nice to have a new one. 🙂 I am going through one of the toughest seasons of my life right now. All I have is the Lord! I was just thinking today about how we try so many other things to fix our circumstances. All we really need is Him and His Word!

I am so appreciative of the reminder that during quietness I find His strength. I have had a lot of trauma in my life and by the grace of God I am resilient and a survivor. However, I have gone through some very dark times, especially during my healing process and it is amazing the strength that I find during those quiet times. Through those quiet times is when I have found my passions, my love for education, and have attained many great achievements that I truly believe would not exist if it were not for His strength in those quiet times. This is my first time on this sight and am excited by what I am seeing. You are so right about God’s word. I think of it as a tool that we must learn to use to unlock the challenges we face daily. I have struggled with depression and it is God’s word that has brought me back into His light and enabled me to keep doing what needed to be done daily. One of my favorites is Proverbs 3: 5 and on.
His word is my anchor, every day, but especially in the hard seasons of life. My granddad went home to Heaven just 16 hours ago…my biological father also passed two months ago. My heart is hurting and when I look at these and other circumstances, I wonder how I will ever overcome. But then I remember…I overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of my testimony. And I am restored with peace!

I have been reading a Psalm every day. I have 3 boys under 3 1/2 years old and it is difficult to get into the word. The Psalms are great for keeping perspective. David, amidst dangerous circumstances, and warring emotions keeps perspective as he pours his heart out to our Lord. So encouraging, and such a good trait to model.
Jeremiah 29:11- “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Just reading these words reminds me that God does have a plan for me, much better than anything I could come up with! I sing to my sweet baby girl (well, my sweet 7 year old – I now also have a 3 week old) every night. It is about how amazing she is and how wonderfully made she is by God and how we couldn’t and wouldn’t expect anything more or better and how she needs to know the Fruits of the Spirit to be out in the world as a light for The Lord. There is always scripture in my song addressing or strengthening her in area she has trouble with – i.e. talking out of turn or not being respectful and so she hears about Proverbs 21:23. It keeps me up on studying the word and gives me a fun way to share it with my girls.

My prescription verse is Malachi 6:8, “He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” I need this reminder daily to behave with the.godly attributes of honesty, mercy and humility when the human side of me reflexively wants to do the opposite.
I often find that a different scripture speaks to me often so it is hard to cling to just one. Although when I was in 6th grade I attended a Bible Study in our apartment complex. I memorize John 14:2 “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” Through the years my family moved often because of my dad’s job and this verse has been an anchor for me. No matter where I lay my head God has one home for me with him.
One verse that I continually quote that brings my mind and heart much comfort is “You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.” Isaiah 26:3

I never thought about Isaiah 30:15 very much until today as I read your blog. I have never thought about killing the temptation to make quick responses by just simply being quiet and that if I do that, much strength will be mine. I need to keep this as one of my prescription scriptures from now on. As a mother of three, two teenage girls and a preteen boy, I have alot of opportunities to become unraveled and speak before I think. This will help me to use quietness as a tool. I like to take mine through a variety of ways. I love the devotional Streams in the Desert! But I also use a variety of devotionals, sometimes all of them throughout the day, but that is not always the case. Sometimes I just go through the Word and read the places that have been highlighted or underlined. I also enjoy praise and worship music. I have several favorite passages. Revelation 3:7-8 “These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.” James 4:7 “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Some other ones are Psalm 18:32-36, Psalm 46:10, Jeremiah 29:11-14 and Jeremiah 32:27 “I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?

I have my sister and brother and my Aunt in my family that are saved.. but it isn’t the end of the story. I want my Dad and my other Aunts and Uncles and cousins to be saved… I want all my family, AND my friends in heaven one day. I know that the only way to accomplish this is prayer, for the Word of God say that the effective fervent prayer of the righteous availeth much. I also have my Christ-filled friends praying for them.. and praying for me that I can be light on a darkened hill.. Please pray that I will be that light that they need to see Jesus.

I have been reading my Bible first thing everyday on a reading plan and the after my husband heads off to work I go into my office and spend time in study, learning and prayer. I’ve just recently come to realize what a comfort having special verses to go to in times of stress or temptation really is. James 4:10 tells us to humble ourselves before the Lord and He will lift us up. It is so easy to let despair, disappointment or trying times to get me down so being lifted up is a great comfort. I have a Bible and I wite notes in the margins( which are not really big enough to do) and sometimes I get, like I really get it. And then there are times I sit back and say, “what did I just read?” and then I go through this disecting it on blueletterbible.com and see what they say or google certain things and sometimes that helps and again at times it don’t. I hear some say you should read King James, other say whatever speaks to me. I am really not sure if I have found the right one for me or not. I have a New Kings James. What do you think?

Since I work full-time with 2 young children and an elderly Grandfather to help care for, it’s hard for me to find time to study the Bible. Since January of this year, I have started taking my Bible to work and reading it during my lunchbreak. Unfortunately, I don’t get as much time as I would like to read/understand God’s word, but it is a start. My favortie verse is actually a chapter, Psalm 23. For some reason, I find so much comfort in that passage when things are not going my way, which seems to be happening more frequently!
My favorite way to take in God’s Word each day has been a daily prayer book I received before Christmas last year. However, lately it has also included Proverbs ThirtyOne Ministries. Actually Proverbs Thirty One seems to be surrounding me as of late. I met a friend who was a Director for a Direct Sales Company called ThirtyOne. Soon after I signed up to be a sales rep. How could I not be a part of a faith based company. Then by chance, i met a lady who wanted to start her one jewlery company. Her jewelry is created after her favorite Bible Stories. Her company is Purple Scarlet Adornments. A few days later I was listening to the radio in my car and there was an ad for the Proverbs Thirty One Ministries. I got to work logged on and signed up with my work e-mail address…and that is my favorite part of the morning. My daily readings to start my day. And my favorite verse…..Joshua 24:15….as for me and my house, we shall serve the Lord.
So many verses have become my prescription verses in the last several years. I have sticky notes and index cards taped next to my bed so I read them daily. I also have sticky notes sticking out of my Bible marking verses I find in my daily Bible reading. My favorite right now is Exodus 14:14: The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

I have been trying to incorporate Philippians 4:8 more and more in my thought life. Battling our enemy isn’t easy, but soooo worth it! Praise God!!
When I feel confused, and I don’t understand events, situations, or happenings in my life or the world, I turn to Isaiah 55:8-9 for comfort: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
I love to hear what The Lord has to say through a few different devotional, My Utmost for His Highest and Jesus Calling are my favorite. I ALWAYS check each bible reference, usually with two or three versions. I also hear God through music. It brings me peace.

The prescription the Lord gave me when I was feeling insecure about my looks and my height (I am a 6′ 1/2″ woman.) a few years ago was Song of Solomon 7:6,7: “How beautiful and pleasant you are, O loved one, with all your delights! Your stature is like a palm tree , and your breasts are like its clusters.” ESV. I don’t remember ever reading this verse before, but it literally jumped off the page at me. God was calling me beautiful even with my tall stature. That settled it for me. His medicine truly works. 🙂
Zephaniah 3:17 The Lord your God is with you, He is might to save. He will take great delight in you, He will calm you with his love, He will rejoice over you with singing.

Let us rejoice and be glad in it.” It always gives me hope as my feet hit the floor. During the day, I have a couple of favorites…Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” and Isaiah 41:10 “Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be afraid, for i AM your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.” These are my go to verses if I am having any doubts or if I feel anxious. When my head hits the pillow at night, my favorite verse is Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Jesus, I trust in you!
Deuteronomy 6:6-9, “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Love the concept of verses as prescriptions! Guess I would have to say that Romans 12:1-2, Philippians 4:4-8 and Micah 6:8 are my daily prescriptions. As far as spending time in the Word, I enjoy doing Beth Moore studies with my gals at church, but the thing that made the biggest difference for me is inductive Bible study (precept.org). Slowing down and carefully observing the text, book by book, chapter by chapter and verse by verse has created a huge hunger in me. I like devotionals too, but can’t get enough of deep study.
Ephesians 6vs10-18 EVERYDAY!
10-12 And that about wraps it up. God is strong, and he wants you strong. So take everything the Master has set out for you, well-made weapons of the best materials. And put them to use so you will be able to stand up to everything the Devil throws your way. This is no afternoon athletic contest that we’ll walk away from and forget about in a couple of hours. This is for keeps, a life-or-death fight to the finish against the Devil and all his angels.
13-18 Be prepared. You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it’s all over but the shouting you’ll still be on your feet. Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words. Learn how to apply them. You’ll need them throughout your life. God’s Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out.
I have to agree with others that the verse that I keep going back to is Jeremiah 29:11. I am an older lady, and I have been sick for several years. Sometimes, the pain is great, and it takes a lot just to hang on. The worst part, to me, is that I am losing my memory. I have some kind of neurological disease that the doctors think might be Alzheimers. I must keep remembering that God does have a plan for me, and if this is it, I am willing to just cling to him, and keep on praying.

I’m not sure of the reference right now, but “God is not a god of confusion but of peace.” When things seem out of control this one helps to slow me down long enough to remember to pray.
I have only recently returned to faith, about one year ago. I receive several e-mails a day with bible passages and devotionals. I save them until the evening, and read them before bed. It ignites my prayer. I am still learning, and I am grateful for people like you and those at Bible Gateway and elsewhere who truly spread God’s word in a way that is applicable to the lives of so many, so absorbable and real.
PS- I have food allergies- gluten at the top of the list.
Two years ago I used the spiritual “supplements” from Isaiah 41:10 to carry me through brain surgery and dialysis. It was His nutrients that sustained me through trying times. Today, I continue to take his prescriptions in thanksgiving and gratitude.
My favorite verse is Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through him who gives me strength.”. God gives us the ability to do anything he needs according to his purpose and will. I also use this verse as without God I can do nothing, nothing apart from Him.
My perscription verse is 1Peter 5:10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while. will himself restore you and make strong, firm and steadfast. God spoke this to me when I found out I had to have back surgery for the second time and told God that it wasn’t fare.

Hi Lynn, I came across your devotional on Proverbs 31 Ministries website, and boy, I’m glad that I did! There are so many Scriptures that I love, too pick just one is not easy. I suffer from anxiety and depression, so I NEED a daily dose of God’s Word every day! I often find myself thinking of and repeating Proverbs 3:5-6, and Ez.. 36:26, as well as Romans 8:1, and many others. I find that music really speaks to me and has a way of calming my heart and rather stirs up joy because of His unfailing love! I, too, suffer from stomach issues and certain foods. I didn’t want to go to a doctor just be put on a diet, and have a few friends that eat gluten free and have done other various things to their eating habits… but after reading your blog(s), I’m thinking that I just might need to see a naturopathic doctor like your daughter did to get my stomach straight. Hi, I have many verses that speak to me at different times & in different ways, memorising them is the hardest part for me. Jesus dropped a few verses into my heart when I was struggling a few years ago after losing my father, grandmother & I was made redundant from my job of 23 years, all within a 6 month period. The verse that stood out most was – Hosea 10:12 “Sow righteousness for yourselves, reap the fruit of unfailing love, & break up your unploughed ground; for it is time to seek the LORD,
until he comes & showers his righteousness on you.”

This letting me know me that no matter how I feel, I have to walk by faith and believe that God is doing a work in my life and he will complete it, I have to take in the word of God first thing in the morning when I am fresh in my mind. As I am walking through a situation right now I am learning to cling to God’s Word. One of the ways I am doing that is by writing the scriptures God leads me to on index cards and carrying them around in my pocket all day long. As my thoughts get in the way, I pull out my cards and read the verses. It has helped a lot. My go-to verse right now is Phillipians 4:6-9 —
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”(Philippians 4:6-9 NIV)
My favorite part of this verse is: “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” I have experiences this peacr so many times in the past couple of months and am so thankful for the please that transcends all understanding.
Thank you so much for what you write. I have multiple diagnoses including multiple sclerosis, already have a pacemaker at 36 years old (got it 9 years ago) for “sick sinus syndrome”, bipolar disorder, and others that cause a LOT of chronic pain but I have gone OFF of all except for one medicine because they were all for pain, sleep, anxiety and thanks to turning to the Word, I no longer need those “prescriptions” I am hoping to come off of the other one some day but it’s not one you can stop suddenly. I got baptized Wednesday at the little country church with about 35 members that I go to and I had stopped because it was “boring” but have been a member 13 years and trust everyone there and they helped me get started back on the right path. Now I feel that I am being led into the ministry in some way after all I have overcome. Only GOD could have done what he has done in my life and the lives of my friends and family, who are all Christians and a wonderful example of how to live happy and free without needing all those pills 🙂
Proverbs 3:5, 6 is one of my favorite verses. God’ s will is perfect. All that is happening fits beautifully
in His wise plan. We must trust HIM without reservation. God has spoken to me many times through this verse; through trials and times of struggle He is there!

I love praying the Scriptures and using tools to pray them. I do this for my whole family.
I got my 13 year old daughter your devotional and she has been doing that daily. This morning I just talked with my children about what tools they are going to use to get in God’s word daily over the summer.

I too am a visual learner the best. I just recently received some alphabet cards with a scripture starting with each letter. Since I am a kindergarten TA in public schools, I am putting these on my desk for myself and maybe for their little eyes to see the alphabet letter and maybe even try to read the words with it.
I have also started the confident heart book by Renee swope and she sends out an email from the online study with an important verse for that chapter and 1 word to focus on that she sends as a PDF so I can print and hang wherever on bulletin board at work or on my refrigerator.
I need to make a list of my favorite verses. Some of them have given needed perspective or instructed me well or given me truth when I’m believing lies. The one I cling to most in difficult times is Do not be anxious about anything but in everything with prayer and petition with thanksgiving present your requests to God then the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your heart and mond in Christ Jesus. Amen!

I just wanted to thank you for your post today. I am also a visual learner and the picture that said “this is not the end of the story” really encouraged me. I am glad that even though some family situations seem overwhelming to me they aren’t overwhelming to our God and he already knows how He will work His good and perfect will out in the lives of my loved ones.

I was checking my email and was reading the proverb 31 for today.. I was so touched with what you said. I have had a very bad week, with work and my health that it was just what God knew I needed. My favorite prescription verses are: Gal. 2:20, “For I am crucified with Christ nevertheless I live; yet not I but Christ lives in me. And the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith of the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself for me.” Also from Prov. 3:5,6 that says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean on your own understanding. Acknowledge Him in all your way; and He will direct your path.” These verses remind me to stay focus in all circumstances, trusting the Lord because He is with me and I don’t need to worry for anything as He has my best interest in mind. Praise the Lord!

I held one of these Bible’s in my hands at an event in Tampa that you spoke at a month ago and what a GEM! If I could have, I would have taken one home with me! The verse I’d like to share is Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. I have to intentionally FOCUS my THOUGHTS on things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable. A great companion verse to Philippians 4:8 is 2 Corinthians 10:5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. Thank you Lynn for giving me food for thought… words from Scripture that focus my thoughts!

I have a scripture box that is filled with my favorite Bible verses. I open it and read the notecards everyday. I confess God’s word daily. This prepares me for the day and it feeds my soul. My favorite verse is Psalm 91:1(amp) He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of The Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.
my favorite is Psalm 59:16-17. “But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble. You are my strength, I sing praise to you; you, God are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely”. This scripture reminds me everyday of who God is, a mighty fortress where I can run to and take refuge.
