Wednesday Wisdom Tip – Get More
Does your heart say, “I want more?”
I want God’s spirit poured on me and my sons and daughters?
Oh how I do!
In this New Year, I’ve been purposing to study God’s word in new ways with the help of the book “How to Study Your Bible” by Kay Arthur, Here I have learned the importance of context…what is happening before and after the verse.
God says in the beginning of this passage, “And afterward…”. After what?
After a fast.
“Blow the trumpet in Zion, declare a holy fast, call a sacred assembly.” Joel 2:15 (NIV)
God called His people to fast and when they did, He would pour out His spirit on them and on their children.
Some of us have really big issues we desperately need God to “pour His spirit on”. We’re crying out to our God to do big things in our children’s lives. We desire more than anything else for our kids to see and live out His visions for their lives.
Fasting positions us to receive this outpouring. Not that we are trying to move God; He is already ready! It is us and our kids that need the moving. Fasting moves our hearts off of us and onto Him.
Take a moment right now and ask God, “In this New Year, do you want me to get a fresh start through fasting?” Then, with all your heart, listen. Really listen.
If you feel called to fast for your kids, I’d love to pray with you! Just leave me a comment on the breakthrough you need in this New Year!
I have felt the call to fast for our children in 2013 already and want to continue in 2014. So this post was very encouraging to keep going. There’s not a lot of evidence that God is doing something in their lives yet but He has definitely moved in this moms heart so far. 🙂 Thanks for this post!
Joining you in fasting, friend! Wanting every thing God has for our children!
The break through I’m waiting for is in the heart of my second born daughter. She has a quiet rebellion going one in her heart! There’s a lot of lying and deception and she struggles with a spirit of lust. 🙁 And she wants victory in that area but doesn’t seem to realize that she needs to reaalllly want that victory more than anything. It seems she doesn’t quite realize the seriousness of this. The far reaching negative effects it will have on her life.
Father, I pray for Megan’s daughter. Give her a supernatural wakening in her spirit and empower her to make wise choices and surrender to YOUR best for her life. We know you love her Father and trust you to do the work only you can do! Amen
