Worry…So Overrated!

Today, my guest is Deanna Mason; Creator of TRU (Talented. Remarkable. Unique.) Teen Magazine for Teen Girls and Writer for Authentic By Design, a blog for woman desiring to live with confidence, security, and self-worth.

I had the amazing opportunity to partner with Deanna at the TRU YOU teen girl conference in the Chicago area in September, an event dedicated to helping young women discover true self-esteem, beauty and purpose. Like many of us, Deanna is a mom too and has experienced the stress and worry of family life. Here is what she’s learned about getting through tough seasons stressless…

Serious illness, unemployment, difficult relationships – I’ve experienced them all. And although I believed God would bring me through them, I also WORRIED through them!

We often walk around hopeless during trials, but as soon as God brings us out (cause He always will ), oh what joy we express and how happy we become.  All is well in our worlds again. We say, “Isn’t God good!”… as if to say He wasn’t good when we were going through our hard time.

God doesn’t change His goodness and faithfulness during trouble.  His position of “Good and Faithful” is always intact.  Our emotions, however, tend to fluctuate. So what do the scriptures instruct us to do when the going gets rough?

I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]” John 16:33 (AMP)

The more secure I become in trusting God and His Word, the less worried I am.  When I meditate on God’s Word regarding whatever issue I am facing, I realize worry and anxiety are not helping anything.

Faith, however, IS!

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:6 – 7 (NLT)

When worry tries to poke its ugly head up in my life, these words rings so loudly inside me.  “Don’t worry, instead, pray.”  I turn it over to God.  It’s not my load to carry anyway. He has asked for it, so I’m going to let Him have it.  That’s what we have to do. Let the thing go!  Let’s trust He is going to show us the way; He’ll take care of us. He knows what to do.

“Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” Matthew 11:28 – 30 (NLT)

Sounds like the way to go to me!  Give me rest instead of anxiety ANY DAY.  This is what our Lord has provided for us.  So why would we choose to be burdened and heavy laden?

Well…we shouldn’t.

Let’s give it up!

  1. Lynn, so very true! Amen!

  2. So very much what I needed to hear this morning. Thank you for pushing right to the front of my mind the very basic knowledge that I need not worry.
I’m sure I’ll slip over the next few months, as I transition my 15 year old daughter through our family divorce, but I will try to remember and regain every time I do.
    Thanks for this post.
